Really? The League of Extrodinary Gentlemen was pretty good. A great way to waste weekend.........

The only one in my family who liked it was my sister. My main reason for disliking the movie is because there wasn't much backstory given for the characters, making it look like they were all just thrown together into one movie randomly.

Sometimes, you simply don't need backstory........

That is true, but I usually like some hints on a characters past so I can try to imagine what life they lived prior to the events going on in the movie.

Yeah, but the movie is enjoyable for what it is.

The only other movie I can remember not liking was Steven Spielberg's war of the worlds. My dad actually dragged me along to see it with him, but he left the theater feeling as dissapointed as I did.

My god, that movie was bad... the original movie's 10,000,000,000,000x better. :P

I thought the movie "the core" was ok, but my Dad wasn't too fond of it. It was another one of those movies that I ended up getting dragged to.

Another bad one: Cloverfield. Worst Kaiju flick ever. Ya don't make a monster movie focused on people..........

I enjoyed Cloverfield. I felt the monster should have had more screen time, though.

How is WotW worse then the original? The original was in black and white. And the effects were horrid. It sucked.

I know you're supposed to consider the time it was released, but saying the remake was worse then the original is like saying a circle-dial phone is better then a cell phone :P

Cloverfield was an awesome movie IMO. It isn't supposed to be like a Godzilla flick, as it was the PoV of the people.

People were griping that it wasnt:

In Europe
100 percent true to the book

Which are stupid reasons of course.

The only thing I was "O-o" at in that movie was how the martians got their tripods. It was all "Lightning transported them to tripods already in the Earth that no one detected before that moment!"

Shoulda just kept it as the transport containers, makes more sense IMO

I suppose it depends on who you are and how much time you have.

'wasting' a weekend is simply unacceptable in my eyes so yeah.

As for WotW

I never read the book, or saw the original but I can understand why people would be annoyed about it being set in America. What with 'Americanisation'

Though logically, it makes some sense.

I think they aimed to make it a different film. Like, a "What if" scenario.

One problem with remakes is that people judge them from the period of the original, but with the WotW remake, you can't really do that. I mean, one of the things they changed is they had no landmarks being destroyed. ie: big ben from the original.
While it fit with the original, if they did that now a days people would just roll their eyes, its an earth invasion cliché at this stage.

I agree with CS on the tripods hiding underground going: <.< >.>
was just silly.

Onto Cloverfield!

It is NOT a Kaiju movie. If you say that again I'll pull your eyes out with a spoon. D:<

A kaiju movie is about the monster, the monster is the star of the show.

Clover field was about the people on the ground during the attack, and personally, I think it was a refreshing perspective.

Also, IK. I kinda liked how you didn't see much of the monster. Made it scarier and more tense.

Doc:I did like how you didn't see the whole monster at once, but I would have liked more scenes where the monster was partly seen or was hinted to be heading in the direction of the protaganists.*

Cloverfield... was an intresting take on Kaiju films, but was in and of itself not very good. Can't explain why, but I could of sworn that, when I saw it in theaters, when I was leaving the theater, there was a mob of people at the ticket booth asking for their money back after they saw Cloverfield... plus, it just didn't click into my head... Let's jus hope that Legendary Pictures's Godzilla Film does better...

On the subject of LoEJ: Well, I shouldn't say waste a weekend, but when there's nothing else to do, might as well flip a movie on, eh? :P

On the subject of WotW: Well, I like action, and while the new one had lots of action, there's something I've always liked about old 50's movies......

On the subject of Cloverfield: If you view it as a horror film, it's okay, but if you view it as a monster movie, it's a serious disappointment.
