"A roamer doesn't need protection. I don't need food either. or a home. I can't imagine what your leader could possibly give me that I can't gain myself" hissed Fatalis with a shrug. "Besides, Troodon are more trouble than they're worth. I'm not about to get involved in something that could bother me for the rest of my life. I have enough trouble with normal packs without Troodon being added to the mix" he added...

"Maybe your parents wanted to connect two things that made you stand out? the red stripe and your claws?" suggested Crusher as he cocked his head...

Xanthe grunted, looking back over his shoulder and narrowing his eyes. "Whoever he is," he growled around the slab of meat in his jaws, "if there's ever a chance to pay him back, I'll gladly take it...."

"It shouldn't be long. You wouldn't be the first, or the last, to be crossed by him. eventually he'll cross one too many" growled Aurora reassuringly as she walked onwards, her rich purple gaze glancing across the others with studious attention. Her time as a pack's alpha female had given her good perception skills with behaviour. It paid to remain under the veil of inexperience however. The less the pack knew of her standing in previous packs, the less risk she was at by the youngsters feeling threatened by her presence. While Xanthe and Savarna would understand she posed no threat, the lower ranking pack members would likely not see it from the same point of view...

"I hope you're right," Xanthe sighed, dropping the flesh into his claws to be able to speak more freely. "If that creature is the island's most dominant predator, I fear for us all..." He fell silent, staring thoughtfully ahead with slightly narrowed eyes.

Brighteyes scratched her chin thoughtfully. "Well, you seem like the kind of raptor who knows other predators. Know anyone that might need protection, or something else, that could help us? At least let them know that we'd be grateful for the assistance..."

"....How is it logical for one who needs help, to offer it? If they're in a position to help you, they'd hardly be in need of help themselves. The few predators I know that wouldn't rather KILL me than talk to me, are either too distracted with their own packs or territories, or are indifferent to others' plight and wouldn't bother offering their help to others. You'd sooner find help with that Allosaur across the clearing than with any of my acquaintences" hissed Fatalis as he picked a bit of Compy flesh out of his teeth with a claw. the wiry reptilian vermin were stringy in texture, though tasty once one got past the scent. their fast paced, out-of-control lifestyle meant they hadn't the chance to develop any kind of fat reserves, and their diet left much to be desired. most carnivores wouldn't touch the things, let alone eat them. But the few who could get over the annoyance of catching and gutting them, had access to a plentiful, albeit less than desirable food source...

"Well, once we have our territory back, we can regain our previous strength," Brighteyes explained. "Sharpclaw is quite open to new packmates, or even just visitors looking for assistance. You scratch my back, I scratch yours, that sort of thing."

"Let's just say I'm flexible enough to scratch my own back. Besides, most of my enemies pose a bigger threat than most Troodons could manage. If they managed to cripple you as much as you claim, you wouldn't last 5 seconds against the kind of things I have to deal with" growled Fatalis firmly as he leaped suddenly, landing on a tree branch nearly 9 feet off the ground, casually crouching as he looked down at the two Albinos, mentally making various guesses as to how long they'd last before a hungry Carnotaurus leapt out and ate one whole...

"The best we can do is watch over the pack and it's young....see to it that they live to see a life without him" growled Aurora absently, her mind drifting to the youngster waiting back at the nest with Savarna, Cirrus and Alira. she plucked the second piece of flesh up in her jaws, allowing her to move more quickly without risking it sliding off the lump in her claws...

Crash huffed silently, but Brighteyes shrugged. "Fine then. We'll just be on our way." The Albino turned and walked off, impatiently beckoning Crash to follow. "The offer still stands, of course. Though I'd understand if you wouldn't want to be associated with us..." she added.

"If I change my mind, you'll probably know about it. I have a tendency for dramatic entrances" growled Fatalis half-jokingly, yawning as he glanced across the clearing, eying the Allosaur standing over the Baryonyx, considering whether or not to risk going for some food...

Red just remained silent staring out at the water, his mind wondering back into his past. Dark, unwelcome memories flooded back to him. Suddenly he shook his head and dispealed them, forcing them back behind the barrier he made in his mind. "My parents... are a rather uncomfortable subject," he hissed.

Crusher grunted in acknowledgment, before glancing back across the small lake, letting the roar of the waterfall drown out all other distractions, happy for the peace it brought. Here, time seemed to stand still. Nothing could break the peace he felt here. It was almost too perfect...but he knew it wouldn't last. nothing good ever lasted. just as certainly as the sun sank beyond the horizon each night, as certainly as life gave way to death, so too would his peace eventually be shattered...be it by his own will, or by the will of a greater power. Be it through the interruption of an angry predator charging at him for a share of his kill or to drive him away from territory it wished for itself, or through the horrific nightmares that laced most of his sleepless nights. One way or another, misery, pain, terror or discord would take the place of happiness, pleasure, peace and order. But in that, the young Rex found solace. In spite of it's impact on his life, he knew he could always expect it, and in that knowledge, he found peace. It was the life he lived now, and would likely be the life he lived till the day fate chose to end it....till he took his last breath...

"That seems an understatement," Steeltalon murmured under her breath, amused at Fatalis's choice of words. She stood up carefully, stretching muscles that had begun to cramp, and started to look for the best place to jump down to when the strangers had gone.

Xanthe growled in agreement, quickening his step as they neared home. His anxiety to see that Savarna and the rest of their pack members were alright was intensified by the knowledge that a pack of Spinosaurs was in the area. with new hatchlings to consider, and more new arrivals to the pack on the way, his protective instincts as alpha and as a father were at their peak.

Savarna herself was keeping a careful eye on Alira, Blade, and Cirrus. Cirrus had been teasing his little sister for a few minutes now, nipping her tail gently when she wasn't looking and playing innocent when she turned to see who was bugging her. The little black and red Allosaur was growing increasingly frustrated, and was letting out high-pitched squeaks and growls to let everyone in earshot know about it.

Once Fatalis was certain the albinos were gone, he looked up to the canopy at Steeltalon, smirking. "You can come out now" he growled with a chuckle...

As Aurora neared home, she upped the pace, seeing the familiar trees and upturned dirt of the pack's nests. As the trees parted, the Allosaurs that had stayed behind began drifting into view. wasting no time, the female stalked across the nest to where Savarna lay alongside the chicks. as she approached, Blade stopped hopping around a centipede he had found and scampered over to his mother, a questioning chirp aimed at the gloomy looking female...

Savarna's eyes narrowed in concern, seeing the expressions on Xanthe and Aurora. "What happened?" she growled, looking from one adult to the other for an explanation as the black and gray alpha male dropped the chunk of sauropod meat in front of her. "Eat," he growled, "then I'll explain." She gave him a sharp look for a moment, then nodded and began pulling off strips to give to the hatchlings.

In pale blur and a dull thump, Steeltalon landed next to Fatalis. "Impressive," she growled, inclining her head toward him, a small, amused smile twitching at the corners of her mouth. "First time in a long time I've seen someone told off quite so thoroughly."

Aurora stepped forward, setting down the larger of the two lumps of flash in her claws down in front of the Alpha female. "Take care of yourself. You need your strength. I've brought food for the hatchlings" she growled as she set down the smaller lump in front of her son, the youngster not waiting to be fed, leaping on the slab of flesh eagerly, ripping into it ravenously as Aurora lay beside the youngsters...

Fatalis waved a clawed hand dismissively. "They were getting annoying. So I made it clear I thought they were idiots and that they weren't getting anywhere. Besides, I have prior engagements, so to speak. If, once I'm done, I'm interested, I'll head to Death Valley and see what I can dig up on those Troodon" he continued as he glanced in the direction the two predators had left, before turning back to Steeltalon...

A gurgling roar tore through the trees as Crusher jerked from his light snooze. as he rose to his feet he spotted the silhouette of a large predator. It looked like an Allosaur, but with the trees and distance it was hard to tell. Not eager to find out, the Rex rose to his feet, taking one last slab of flesh off the partially devoured Homalocephale carcass, before heading off at a fast walk into the tree-line in the opposite direction of the incoming predator...

Chomper raised his head from the river and went off in search of prey, knowing the area housed a great variety of herbivorous dinosaurs to hunt.

Red had lef the Tyrannosaur's Company some time ago, for now he wondered aimlessly. He had fed recently enough not to need to eat for a few more days. So he wondered never knowing where he might end up but it was better than the nightmares in his dreams.

Savarna frowned and looked from Aurora to Xanthe questioningly as her two children bounced forward to eat as well. Alira was more suspicious of it than Cirrus was, sniffing at the meat before daring to take a tiny bite. "What happened?" the alpha female repeated, not yet moving to eat. Her mate looked up from licking the blood that had dripped onto his claws off of them and growled, "A gang of Spinosaurs took the sub-adults' kill." Savarna's reaction was immediate. Her expression went from worried to furious; her lips drew back from her teeth. In that instant she went from sweet, understanding alpha, to ferociously protective mother. "Those filthy fish-breathed - " she began, but Xanthe shook his head warningly at her. "They are many," he growled. "If we tried to fight them, we would suffer huge losses. With youngsters to think of..." He looked at Blade, Cirrus, and Alira. "...that's a risk we can't afford to take."

Steeltalon chuckled softly. "Well, good luck, if you do. I've heard Troodons can turn quite nasty if you get on their bad side," she growled, cocking her head.

"They'll get what's coming to them in time" growled Aurora, her tone slightly more weighed down in emotion than would be expected, though the cause wasn't clear. "No predator can hold the top spot forever. I'm sure you remember the same was thought of the Tyrannosaurs....and now look at them. I assure you...The Spinosaurs will fall. We just need the patience to await that opportunity" she added as her purple gaze shifted between the two Alphas and the youngsters, watching Blade eat through the slab of flesh, eating ravenously...

"Who do you think helped spread that rumour?" hissed Fatalis with a smirk. He had plenty of experience with Troodons...
