It wouldn't exactly end up like that, Doc, but something along those lines may occur...

Something like LoTr would benefit from a limited life RPG, as battles such as minis tirith would eventually happen etc.

moments such as these could also drive interest in an RPG, as the event will NEVER happen again, players who are 'planning' on joining may be encouraged to jump in so that they don't miss it.

Of course this is useless unless anyone actually comes up with an idea for one of these RPGs. Keep them coming people.

As I've said to everyone before you, I'm not going to convince myself that its a good idea. That's your job. So hop along and show me why its a good idea.

Well, for one, you take comeplete control over the environment on the worlds you wish to destroy. Two, you also get to destroy others characters for free, but the fun factor of this is that the one who loses there chary can either preform a revenge tactic (Ex: attacking with hordes of the living dead, meteor strikes, etc...) or just forgive them, but problem with that is that you can't keep pounding that person's characters over and over again. Third, it should count as quite fun to cause as much destruction as you want to, with a few limitations...

Sounds like an E-war to me....

Yeah... but I'm trying to make it more like a survival-based RPG rather than an E-War where you just cause a load of random and total destruction while killing off characters in mere seconds... which WON'T be allowed if this is made...

So you want something similar to an apocalypstic setting, where people try and survive agaisnt other people and (I'd assume) monsters? Hmmm...

At present, UR's idea is too weakly based. while the concept sounds like it COULD be interesting [either way i likely will not be participating], it hasn't convinced me it's a good idea. what i'm seeing here is just, from what i can see, a repeat of what could be done in some of our E-Wars...Mastermind E-War to be precise. i don't see a need for a repeat of that...one is enough. a change of theme from sci-fi to fantasy doesn't qualify as a sufficient difference, as technically it could still apply there...

limited life RPGs on the other hand, sound interesting. My only worry is they'll leech life from the longer standing RPGs, but as with any RPG, that depends on the quality of the story and the community's interest in it...

Well, I noticed that too much story makes it hard to join, and too little story can make it repetitive.

The best part of a limited life RPG is just that: limited life. It can't garner attention forever, since it will inevitably end, and people will simply go back to any neglected RPGs.

depends on the context of 'limited'. limited could mean a few days...or weeks....or months.

True, but attention is rarely drawn to a new RPG for more than a few weeks at the most. After that, it either dies, or just becomes yet another RPG.

Well, me has now figured better plot-line and stuff for this! Ok, let's spill it out now:

In Earth-time, the year is around 2148, set in a post-apocalyptic world lays in the hands of the players to reshape and destroy. Few survivors still thrive on this human-owned world, yet there is still much to survive through or destroy. It's up to the player at this point to decide how to deal with the characters they and others make, by either allowing them to somehow live, or wiping them off the face of this forgotten planet. Supplies from a nearby colony are dropped in every week or so, but they don't have the right resources to try and save those remaining nor do they wield the proper equipment at their disposal.

As a short note: factions will be involved, but there WILL be a rule about the size and strength of them. For one, no going, "OLOLOL MY GROUP HAZ UH MILLIONZ STRONG!" or "I own the whole planet! HA HA HA!" You'll be reduced to a minimum of 25 strong at the start IF you decide to make one, and it can become maxed out to atleast 75-100 people.

As another note: You'll have the power to create different species of mosterous creatures, but there will be a couple of rules on this to. One, you can't over-power them (obviously, :P) and two, you can't make millions to billions and say they rule every part of the planet. That's a big no go and a boot up the arse.

One more short note: Yes... you, and I mean the player, controls weather, atmosphere, creatures and some anonymous objects from space to f**k up other people's characters. But no way, and I mean, NO WAY will you be allowed to start up something on another world... at all. Unless, of course, you decide to make a character for the nearby colony's ship hovering over this massive planet...

sonds like it could fit inside SEW. no need for a full RPG...

Exactly!
And, for people with limited time, they don't have to worry about long term commitment.

UR, currently there are far too many holes.

KP, that isn't accurate, at all.

but an RPG where you can influence another players environment is VERY dodgy ground.
With two players trying to control the same scene, it would become very silly very fast. Imagine one person saying its foggy and the other person being like "LOL no its not" *it is now sunny, and the ambush is revealed*

Doc: Actually, no two people will control what's going on in the SAME EXACT AREA, but in different parts of the planet itself. Say, for example, one player is messing around with the wind on one part of the planet to destroy someone's character or form a large dust storm. Now, say that same player does something else on another part of the world, which would be to cause a massive wave of water to rain down from the Heavens and annihilate all life in that region. That's gonna be allowed, but what WON'T be accepted is two players messing with the landscape and other things in the SAME area. It's like they'll be trying to change and reshape it so quickly that confusion'll just set in and another person will have to step in to stop it... or something. Also, another little fun thing I have yet to mention:

No galactic travelling will happen. It's meant to be a survival RPG, people! Not a dang little twisting plot to turn EXACTLY into a replica of the SEW. The one and ONLY way for travelling through space is to make a character, say, a pilot, for that smaller, still alive colony's ship that's dropping food, water and supplies off for those still alive. Though, if you end up in a difficult situation and have to crash-land, don't expect much survival for that character due to the meteor showers, volcanoes F-ing everyones day up, tornadoes that just LOVE sucking your characters and other things in, and tsunamis, which, of course, will drown all land dwellers... :D

So what stops one person from greifing on another continuously?

Basically a third person/admin that comes in and destroys the hell out of their character(s) for doing so. It will be allowed for them to just randomly own the person's chary because of this, and if it continues, either they'll be kicked out of the RPG or something random and destructive will just own them...

Sounds like a very high maintenance RPG. I dunno. I don't like it. That is personal opinion though.
