I personally would prefer if the mercs were clued in to some degree, ie: knowing their mission objectives and what not. I agree with TT about the Saurians, they'd just be annoying. It should be more free form though. A nice thing to do would be to flesh out this military base and describe what it consists of, eg power stations and various labs, etc.

This would give players something to work towards, to look for supplies or radios etc without constraining them. With players controlling Ninja mobs, the survival side will sort itself out.

But most importantly, the RPG needs to be free. We can't have predetermined events. We can decide what we want for our own characters but we should avoid group plots. If you want people to help with something, you should ask them in rpg.

Alright, I suppose I can toss out the Saurian idea.

Keep in mind, the entire purpose of this mission is to investigate the research base area. They would fly in, check it out, and respond accordingly. They don't expect to run into any dinosaurs if they can help it, and they would probably not tell the mercenaries that the animals were there (not that they would believe them). At the most, the government would be intentionally vague, saying something about a "biological hazard," "dangerous wildlife," or something like that.

As for the military base: I'm not really an expert, but it's pretty basic. There wasn't a particularly large military presence on the island. It was mostly confined to a research base (primarily a genetics lab and containment area for the animals). Of course, it's probably in ruins by this point. A functioning radio may or not be there, however. The military base has an armory, no doubt, but it would be rather limited (basic weapons and ammo, standard rations, etc.).

If something comes up that I want to happen, I'll PM someone about them, to avoid the predetermined events.

UR: People will have plenty of time to make their characters before they arrive on the island. At most, if someone like Gira (since he's banned from the computer for awhile) wants to join in late, I can probably arrange something for him.

That would be lame. The setting is a large part of the experience. "endless jungle" isn't very interesting. there should be a sprinkle of human development around to provide interesting places to go to and investigate.

Oh, there will be. I have several ideas already: a cargo-carrying monorail that is meant to ferry resources and personnel between the research base and the jungle through a large canyon, a small harbor with a few boats for traversing the river, and several other outposts used primarily for study of the animals.

A monorail and a harbor, eh? Sounds a lot like parts of Jurassic park: Trespasser's setting. XP

Luckily, the setting was the best part about that game

Good to know. :P

Oh, and the island itself won't just be "endless jungle" anyway. As I've already mentioned, there's a canyon, a river system, grassy plains, and there might be a cave somewhere for whatever reason.

Also, I went ahead and deleted the Saurians, and added one last dino: Compsognathus (because, you know, why not?).

Uh, UR, don't make me slap you. You can't derail a topic just because you're bored. If you don't have anything constructive to post here, then don't post. Period.

Doc: true. A very underappreciated point imo.

On topic. Might take part in this. I like the idea of being able to control a pack of bloodthirsty dinos against humans. XP

She can't. Merc players should be forbidden from that kind of thing. Sure, you can encounter dinos to fight and escape from all you want, but actually staging an attack on the players should be left to people with no characters. This would stop people from introducing ninjas just to glorify their characters, or control the group. I think it should be an either/or sort of thing.

Bloodthirsty dinos it is then. (They're so much more fun to write than humans. XD)

And I shall very much enjoy the maulings. XP

And I shall very much enjoy tons of carnage when this starts, despite us not being able to see it but read about it...
