Blade growled annoyedly as he let go, biting onto the foot that was pressed against his face tightly, the light snap of broken bone being heard as Blade resumed tugging...

Aircrest fell quiet and felt his hide quiver when he contemplated the Tyrannosaur's words. Could that have been what happened to his own family? Slaughtered and strewn somewhere while he, still in his egg beat the mounting odds and hatched without their care? The mystery behind his birth made it all too easy to imagine such grim possibilities. The fact that they might be more than mere imaginings only worsened things.

"Yeah... lets hope they are quick on their feet. They'll have to be if they want to survive" Aircrest growled plainly. He knew that all too well.

Crirrus leaned further onto the compy, growling in his falsetto voice, his weight restricting their prey's movement somewhat as Alira gave a huge backwards tug and succeeded in dislocating the arm she held in her jaws. The movement, however, almost knocked Cirrus off his perch.

"If they did have chicks," Steeltalon growled, her tone and expression dark at the idea, "I'd rather they learn to survive on their own than have them be raised by their pack..." Silver remained silent, the hatchling trying to make herself as small as possible and avoid being noticed.

Shade walked into the forest, deciding to roam the island...

Brute walked deeper into Thrasher's territory, feasting on the ferns he came across...

Crusher grunted, acknowledging the two. He knew all too well how difficult life as a juvenile was in a land where only the very strongest escaped with their lives. He had seen first hand the jaws of death attempting to close on him time and time again. Each time, he either outran it or fought his way to freedom, not always escaping unscathed. Even as young as he was, his hide was dotted with at least a dozen scars, some larger than others. And he was undoubtedly going to gain many more before his time on this island was over. Pulling himself free from reflection, the Rex's gaze shifted to Steeltalon. "What is the story of those Raptors anyway? Why were they trying to kill you?" he growled, cocking his head...

Blade was tugged forward as Alira pulled back on her side, a low, frustrated growl coming from the young Allosaur as he tightened his grip, widening his stance so that he would have more traction, before tugging hard on his end, his fangs digging deeper into the smaller animal's hide, sliding to lock on one of the Compy's legs before finally getting a firm grip...

"It's kind of a long story," the half-mutant growled softly, unable to meet Crusher's eyes for more than a few seconds. He'd saved her - in effect, she owed him anything he wanted of her now, be it just an explanation or her life. maybe, a voice in the back of her mind - that sounded a lot like her own - whispered, just maybe, it's time it was told...

Alira, being the smaller of the two, was yanked forward with a muffled squeak of surprise, and Cirrus toppled off of the compy. The black and gray hatchling gave an annoyed growl and grasped the compy by its shoulders, clamping down with all the force his little jaws could muster and stepping back, pulling it away from his sister and Blade.

"Those quilled raptors... not all of them can be so bad, right?" Aircrest chimed in, still partially trapped in his thoughts. The simple acts of balancing and keeping pace with the others were practically subconscious. He had seen the brutality of the quilled ones, seen their differences in physique from raptors such as himself. They were akin to the elder in some ways, but not quite matching him.

"Not all. There are the occasional few that aren't. Take the old one, for instance" growled Crusher calmly as he walked. Eyeing Steeltalon, he grunted. "We have time. Though I'll understand if you'd rather not speak of it". He had his fair share of stories he preferred not to relive. He knew others probably had their own...

Blade snarled as he bit down and pulled back, placing his foot on a rock that was firmly lodged in the ground, using it as leverage as he heaved backwards, feeling something give as the sensation of ripping flesh could be felt coming from the Compy...

The half-breed gave a bitter chuckle. "My father was decent," she growled. "But then, he and his siblings were born mutants...his parents were a different story." Steeltalon gave a soft sigh and went on more softly, remembering the story as it had been told to her, "Riptide...the leader of the pack back there...was once a member of my father's pack. But he didn't like the way things were done. He thought if the pack were all mutants, no one would ever raid our territory again. The chicks would be safe, we'd never have to worry about trespassers scaring off the prey...and some of the pack agreed with him." She paused to swerve around a thick clump of ferns. "He knew Tocho - my father - knew where to go, to become a mutant. But Tocho had watched his own parents slowly lose their sanity...they forgot who they were, who their children were, and bickered about the most ridiculous things...eventually, they lost themselves to violent madness... Riptide hadn't been around for that, and didn't understand why Father wouldn't show anyone the way." Steeltalon stopped again, trying to gather her thoughts.

Cirrus gave a stubborn growl, his upper lip curling back into a snarl as he pulled, feeling the resistance lessen as the compy's flesh began to tear, the fighting youngsters starting to literally rip their prey in half.

"So he rebelled" concluded Crusher as he listened to the story, starting to see where it went from there, though there were still some holes in the story...

Blade growled annoyedly as he set both his feet on the rock, giving some slack as he crouched against it, his leg muscles tensing and bunching up before he suddenly pulled hard, nearly pulling both Alira and Cirrus off their feet as the pop of bone and the rip of flesh was heard, the lower half of the Compy stretching from the rest of it sickeningly as skin tore and flesh was shown...

"I wonder what the old one- Ripper, was it?; was doing around that time. He lives pretty nearby to those pools and told me to stay away from them..." Aircrest said, trailing off into his thoughts again. If he hadn't been told about the consequences of drinking the polluted water; if he hadn't seen the effects, he would probably have sought it out for the seeming benefits that came with the changes... increased strength, speed... it would be all too alluring for a destitute such as himself.

And with that, Pipsqueak was no more...

Shade's eyes suddenly seemed to glow in rage. The Carcha bellowed, roaring at a lone Diplodocus that had happened to be eating. The enraged dinosaur dashed towards the sauropod, opening her jaws for a large bite...

Steeltalon nodded. "Riptide began spreading rumors to gather a following...that father only kept the secret so he'd be the only mutant in the pack...that Riptide would be a better leader, that he would make the entire pack strong. It was around then that he must've met Vertigo." Her expression darkened and her lip curled as if the name alone left a vile taste in her mouth. "She had to have known where to find the tainted water...that's the only way Riptide could've found out. The raptors in their splinter group disappeared for a while, and Tocho gave up trying to find them. That was his mistake...he should've realized Riptide wouldn't give up so easily." Steeltalon shook her head. "Riptide let us believe he and the others had left, unhappy with my father's leadership. It was about a year after I'd hatched that he attacked our den."

Cirrus snarled and kept pulling, Alira giving a high-pitched growl and losing her grip on the compy's arm, hopping back a step to regain her balance. Her older brother dug his tiny toe claws into the soil, giving a backwards heave with all of his strength as the compy's flesh continued to rip, muscles in their prey's body being stretched to their limit and then further, the tissue tearing apart slowly.

Shade slammed her jaws into the neck of the Diplodocus, some of the small spines of the dinosaur flying off from the amount of force that the attack contained. The sauropod bellowed loudly, disturbing some nearby nests and territories, trying to either warn other herbivores of the presence of a carnivore or trying to intimidate its attacker, which would not work, as it was too late to try and scare her away. Shade let go and ran to the other side of the animal, being sure to avoid its whip-like tail. The Carcha then rammed her claws and teeth into the herbivore's flank and side, the taste of blood filling her mouth...

As Shade brought down the Diplodocus, a pair of golden orange eyes shimmered in the treeline, the trees seeming to come alive as a portion of the treeline shifted, the outline of a Giga becoming visible as it stepped out of the trees, heading towards the sauropod kill. It had been a while since his last meal, and this served as an ideal opportunity. No doubt other predators would soon follow...

Crusher listened quietly, nodding in understanding. "It seems that makes three of us who lost our families before their time" he growled lowly, the words weighing on him more heavily than he would have liked. "What's the little one's story?" he added curiously as he eyed the smaller Raptor accompanying Steeltalon...

Blade snarled as he began to thrash, feeling his meal giving way under the force, as the flesh tore and bones disconnected, the rips growing wider, starting from the spine and stretching downwards towards the more elastic stomach...

Aircrest gave Crusher a sharp look from above. He never told the Rex about his situation and was about to voice that fact when it dawned on him that he must have meant someone else. Someone that the female raptor knew as well apparently. "Well you know what they say; misery loves company. You have a knack in finding orphans like yourself I guess" Aircrest commented offhandedly, trying to play off the anxiety that came with thinking the juvenile Tyrannosaur was able to tell he was a loner not by choice but by circumstance.

Shade backed away a little, letting the Giga have its share of her kill as the glow to her eyes seemed to fade away. She looked at the Diplodocus that she had just killed and then back to the slightly large predator, with a look that said "go ahead, have some, I don't mind," her black scales gleaming in the light. She snorted, turning away, as she realized that she only killed the Diplodocus out of rage...

"I intend to. And so will many, many other predators, large and small" snarled the Giga roughly as he walked forward, not even glancing at the Carcha as he dug into the massive herbivore's flank. this herbivore was, from the scent of things, dying already when the Carcha found it. In fact, it was weak and sick to the point that it would've died within a couple of days anyway. At the very best, it would've survived another week before it finally succumbed to illness.. multiple large gashes covered its flanks, and the end of its tail was severed. This thing had been attacked by Allosaurs. How it managed to escape was unclear, though the half-healed state of the wounds suggested that the illness may have come later. Infection, perhaps. It would also explain how it survived, and yet was alone. At the time, it was probably accompanied by a herd, which helped it fight them off. But as the open wounds became infected and infested with maggots, the herbivore grew ill and gradually slowed down, until it eventually was outpaced by its herd, left to die. A harsh reality all creatures on this island faced...while you were healthy, you would be safe with friends. But once you grew weak, you were on your own. with a grunt, the Giga tore a massive slab of flesh from the kill, gulping it down hungrily, this being the first meal since the previous day. "For your sake I hope you're not as alone as you smell. Otherwise, it'd be wise not to consider claiming this ground for yourself. This place will be swarming with predators within a few hours, and they will not take kindly to sharing the food, or the area around it, with others. It's going to become a bloodbath. And that will attract even more predators"

"Like seems to attract like," Steeltalon replied. She looked down at Silver, adding, "I don't know. Another victim of the pack I suppose - she was stuck inside when the Triceratops got in, and I didn't want to see her go the same way as Riptide did..." she trailed off, struck once again with the reminder that she had no idea how to raise a hatchling. Silver looked back at Crusher with eyes that were very wide and scared. "Silver - that's your name, right? What is your story?" Steeltalon asked her. The hatchling shrank back at being addressed directly, squeaking, "I-I don't really remember....I w-wandered too far from home and got lost...and when I f-finally found my way b-back....th-they were all..." Her eyes widened with the memory of some horror only she could see. "...a-all over the place..." she finally choked out.

Cirrus gave a low growl and yanked back again, only to go staggering back a couple of steps as the compy's stomach stretched and split, the thin skin unable to take the strain for long. Intestines plopped to the ground, Alira taking a couple of hops back and giving a surprised squeak.

"Oh, I don't live here. I live mostly in the swamp. You should visit sometime, we could go hunting sometime, maybe?" Shade snorted, tilting her head a little to the right. "But I would agree, maybe I should get out of here before something more dangerous than either of us arrives..." she added as she looked back...
