Tetto'eko looked back out at the sacrifice, watching as Tehenhauin wrenched the heart of the man's bloody corpse and raised it up in his clawed hand for all to see. "My kind does not have criminals as you know them. Only the Skinks are intelligent enough to perform what would surmount to a criminal action, but we all know how important we are to the Temple-Cities. Without Skinks, there would be no workers. Without the Saurus, there would be no military. Without the Kroxigor, there would be no really heavy-duty workers. Every species in the Lizardmen was created by the Old Ones for a specific purpose to our society, and the last thing we would do is betray our kin. Our kind is so isolationist anyway, criminals would have nowhere to go if they tried to escape, unless they exiled themselves. In my memory, such a thing has never happened." Tetto'eko waved a hand at the sacrifice, continuing, "As for this, it is a religious festival, not a punishment. At best, the human should be honored to become food for the insatiable Blood God we call Sotek." The Skink turned to Septimus, giving the dragon a calm, but firm, stare. "Call us barbaric if you must, but please, do not insult my kind for our actions. This is what the Lizardmen do, and that's that. There will be no changing that, not so long as the Slann lead us." Tetto'eko watched as the Skinks eventually dispersed, Tehenhauin dragging the body and heart away, presumably for a feast at Hexoatl later. "And, of course, when the Slann die out, as they are destined to do if the Old Ones do not return, we will simply revert to our animalistic instincts and join the rest of Lustria in the fight for survival, until we too vanish from this place forever."
