Twincrest maintained calm, only thinking of Rake's boasts as mere bluffs. She wasn't afraid of some banged up Irritator who sounded like he was making up claims to be better than he was. "What be this proposition he has for me? I'll be glad to help him out for it." She hissed in return. All the better to humor herself with by running an errand for Thrasher....

"A Rex has been wandering around our borders for several weeks now. Ruining hunts, attacking patrols, and generally causing havoc. You will find it, and follow it, and find out everything you can; where it lives, what it does when it isn't pestering us, what allies and family it may have. What injuries it may have, old or new. Everything" hissed the Irritator slowly and steadily, making sure the details would be picked up by the crested lizard. "Once you've gathered all you can, return here. I will know when you return. Do it well, and your place here will have been earned, and you will suffer no more threats from Thrasher or his allies" he added finally...

"So it's just spying on a rex and getting as much information on it as possible? Sounds like a fun errand to run." Twincrest hissed, half in delight, half in relief. This didn't sound too bad. Spying on a Rex? It sounded almost too easy. She had done worse things in the last 8 years and gotten away without a scratch. This was gonna be a cakewalk. "If that is all Thrasher wants from me, then I accept it humbly." She growled in a grateful manner...

"Good. The Rex was last seen near the North Western border of Thrasher's territory. You'll know where exactly when you find the mangled Spinosaur corpse laying there" hissed Rake as he turned away. "Another thing; if you're caught, you say nothing. As far as he's concerned, you're a scavenger making use of whatever leftovers it leaves behind. If your connection to us is made known, all deals are off. And when we find you, we'll make sure there's so little left the Compies will be fighting for the scraps" he added warningly, before continuing on his path towards the edge of the swamp, heading back to Thrasher to ensure the news reached him...

Twincrest merely nodded, and the Dilophosaurus was off toward the area as quickly as she could. Seriously, what was so special about one rex that could give Thrasher cause for alarm? More likely, all the Spinosaurs killed were old, or softened up weaklings who has gone frail and easy under Thrasher's control of the island... Besides, how hard would it be to find the right tyrannosaurus? There were only about several dozen of them still running around the island...

The Rex in question was already on the move. Having had his fill of food and drink, he had chosen to resume his exploration and investigation of Thrasher's borders. Having been too young to be a border patrol when his family was attacked, he knew little of the borders. Now it was his chance to learn more...it would prove useful once he moved in and took over...

The Rex walked along the edge of a forest only a few minutes walk from the border, the predator glancing across the wide plain that separated him from it, golden eyes studiously taking in the details of the terrain beyond, and the creatures that occupied it. He was already in the territory of a Baryonyx, but rumours of a massive Rex patrolling just outside Thrasher's borders and the damage it caused to those that tried to stop it had been sufficient warning for the slender snouted predator to stay out of sight. Everyone who heard the rumours floating around the region knew that whoever the Rex was, it was undoubtedly there for Thrasher. Questions continued to float as to why it didn't just go through the territory and challenge Thrasher outright. This suited Crusher just fine however...the less they knew of his motives, the more their own paranoia would build...Fear would be his weapon...

Aircrest dropped from the treeline after a short while of circumventing in the canopy. His roundabout route scattered his scent as the aroma of moist vegetation rubbed off on him. Had he been moving in a straight path, he would have reached the other side of the chasm by now and would already be investigating what laid upstream.

The Deinonychus would have known this however. Aircrest counted on it if he suspected correctly, and since the Deinonychus was after the same thing he was, he had little reason to doubt himself. The flame-hided dromaeosaur would have caught on when the scent trail led him through the underbrush erratically then doubled back on itself before finally fading off into the draft blowing through the underground oasis. Aircrest hoped the raptor would have lost his interest at that point.

But it was all too possible that the Deinonychus was able to divine his intention from the start of the trail alone, how it went against the river before Aircrest made his attempt to throw it off. If so, then it would not be long before the larger raptor was back on his heels...but at least by then, it would not not even know that...

Back in the cave, Blackside yawned as she scratched her head against the side of the cave, but not so hard that she accidentally drew blood. "You know, I'm glad you have yourself a mate. I wish I had one, but finding one here is tough." The large Tyrannosaur rumbled, a slight tone of annoyance in her voice.

"Thrasher's control on the island is partially to blame." Crimsonclaw hissed in, to which Monozu was quick to elaborate on.

"Most of the tyrannosaurs still alive are either afraid of Thrasher, and thus are making themselves so as to not draw his ire, or try to take him on, and end up dead. Either way, that means that few here are those that fit your criteria... bold, yet not so much that they rush in blindly for throne of the island." Monozu clarified.

Blackside nodded. It really was sorta pathetic. For the last 8 years, life here had been getting harder and harder. More prey seemed to be getting skittish or crazy, and that bore down on the predators as well. Finding a mate for the last 5 years had been near impossible... but she would keep trying...

Elsewhere, Twincrest was moving about, nearing the edge of Thrasher's territory... she was getting close, and she could pick up the scent of a dead Spinosaurus... and that of a T-rex as well...

Paradox woke up with a yawn. He pushed himself up with his legs, shaking his head for a little wake up call to the rest of his body. He looked down at the lump- wait.

Where was the lump?

Someone had stolen his food! The Abelisaurus was obviously not happy with this, and noticed the tracks of an animal with four legs... However, this wasn't a dinosaur... This had to be another reptile. The tracks looked like that of a Postosuchus. Paradox began the search for the Triassic thief, sniffing each of the foot prints as he went...

Indeed, Hellfire had been aware of the distraction. However, by now he had gathered a rough idea of where the Raptor was heading. It had been following the stream most of the way along, and indeed, it drew his attention to the contents. The fish were too large to be local, and crocodiles certainly couldn't have made their way down here without there being a way out. So he ended up following it, tracking it along its path in hopes of finding his exit...or rather, in hopes of finding an exit that WASN'T neck deep in death traps...

The demolished mound of flesh and bone that was once a Spinosaur lay a few dozen yards from the edge of the forest through which Twincrest walked. Around it, a few of the local occupants had gathered to see the destruction. Hushed whispers and concerned murmurs seemed to float over the group, and concern was evident in the gaze of most of them. It had been a long time since any of them could remember a Spinosaur, of all things, destroyed so thoroughly, so the sight of it fuelled the fire of doubt amidst many of the territory's more prominent denizens over how safe they actually were. A Spinosaurus was a rare sight, even here. A creature of power that most feared, but all respected. Thrasher's kin were few and far between, and in recent years had grown powerful enough that to harm one was considered an impossibility. And yet, here it lay, battered, mangled and barely recognisable...it was indeed a disturbing prospect for those loyal to the Spinosaur...

Quickly, Twincrest dashed toward the mutilated carcass of the spinosaur, partially baffled and partially horrified at what she was seeing. She had been told a Spinosaur had been killed here, but to see it so thrashed like this... She shook he rhead. "It was probably an old or sick individual. One incapable of fighting. All I have to do is find the Rex that did this and spy on him." Twincrest thought to herself, staying on the outskirts of the crowd, before trying to pick up the scent of any tyrannosaurs that coul dhave done this... It had to have been a large T-rex, over 50 feet in length, and probably a bull male...

Heavy footsteps hung in the air, as the muscular form of Ba'al marched through the forest. He caught a smell... it was a rex, roughly in its twneties. Ba'al decided to passively follow the scent for now.... he had to make sure it wasn't intruding on his territory....

Gothmog stomped forward, his nose leading him towards a clearing. The giga stayed hidden within the bushes, his grim gaze falling upon his target: a trio of edmontosaurs, drinking beside a pond. The trio looked most unhealthy, as if they had not eaten well lately, and they had been seperated from their herd by some stroke of luck. Eyes widening, Gothmog kept his distance, staying completely silent. His form was completely hidden from the edmontosaurs... and wanted to keep it that way. The giga inched along the underbrush, hoping to avoid detection, and get close enough to them to strike....

The scent of a Postosuchus filled Paradox's nose now. He was getting closer, although he was now on the outskirts of his territory. The Abelisaur could now see something moving in the brush; it was the thief. The Postosuchus, which was in its early teens, could easily detect the arrival of Paradox, before it turned around and snarled, blood covering its maw. Paradox roared as he began the charge, rushing at the Postosuchus with an open pair of jaws...

Aircrest moved quickly to stay ahead of the other raptor on the off chance that it was still pursuing an exit as well. His stance was low as he moved innocuously through the underbrush, panning his head from side to side, peering through shrubbery and ferns. Though the larger predators of the island were barred from this underworld, the juvenile versions of them had full reign. There was at least one Tyrannosaurus Rex stomping about driven by its near-constant hunger, rushing through the subterranean jungle in search of prey. Allosaurus whelps developed pack hunting skills. So on, so forth.

Aircrest darted past the dark shapes looming over the dead, ignoring the sound of cracking bones and tearing flesh. He froze and hunkered down at the thumping of footsteps and watched as other raptors shot past him in droves; for what the green and black raptor could only guess was wanton chaos. All bore quills on their head. All were an assortment of impossible colors due to genetic taint. He was glad that his hide blended into the vegetation and tall grass on the ground as well as it did in the treetops, glad that his scent was masked.

The pack of mutants were speeding down river however. It would only be a short while before they came across the Deinonychus. Aircrest could only keep going and hope for the best. If they found each other at...whatever was at the river's end then he might just end up congratulating the larger dromaeosaur...

Oblivious of the Dilophosaur, onlookers continued to eye the scene of the fight as they passed, one a couple stopping for any length of time. Scavengers in particular were common, many of them waiting for the departure of the Baryonyx and Suchomimus in the area, hungry eyes set on the mangled though relatively untouched Spinosaur and the all but non existent Triceratops carcass that lay beside it. Only a few ribs, the skull and some major bones were left of the latter, but to a starving scavenger at the bottom of the territory's food chain, it was still better than nothing. The majority eyed the Spinosaurus however. The large beast was a feast for creatures used to feeding on insects and small reptiles, and they intended to make full use of the opportunity. Departing the scene, large Rex prints could be seen leading right into the forest, displaced bushes and scraped trees showing where the Tyrannosaur had pushed his way through a thicket, heading further into the jungle...

Hellfire meanwhile, picked up a scent on the wind. The distant thudding of footsteps and hissing of predators reached his ears. Mutants. Shrugging nonchalantly, the predator turned and ducked into the undergrowth, quickly carving a path out of their way as he pressed onwards, the detour effectively steering him around the killer pack...

As Aircrest neared his destination, the smell of the grave wafted into his nostrils. The scent of the tainted animals was mixed in with he pungent scent and for that to be the case, they must have been living in the area. It was that strong an odor. It reminded him of an experience had a long time ago. Eight years ago...beside a calm river...surrounded by trees...

"******* lovely," Aircrest thought with a scowl. "figures that the only other entrance into this place would be mutant turf...or else anything would be using it..."

He pressed on with great care, eventually able to see where the water flowed from...a tunnel in the rock wall, ringed with metal. Another part of the human complex. A mutant nest, the entrance of it decorated with the decaying bodies of all they saw fit to display. These were not torn apart or arranged in any specific manner. They all had their throats slashed and were left to die where they dropped, gagging and gasping for breath.

The message was all the same though. "Come here if you dare." If anything was fool enough to reap the spoils, they'd be slaughtered without discrimination. With little to nothing to challenge them, the mutants lived without worry in whatever way they did. It was most certainly not going to be pretty...

Twincrest took in what she saw, before she laid her eyes on the Rex tracks. Moving quickly, she took off following them, leaving the carcasses and the animals there behind... She had a target to spy on...

Hellfire wasn't far behind. Luckily, he had managed to successfully avoid being intercepted by the mutants. He couldn't say if they were still tracking him, but knowing his luck, they were. But it would take them time to split his scent from that of the environment, having himself been moving through the undergrowth for so long recently that he smelled more like that than like a Dromaeosaur. Up ahead, the scent of death, decay and mutants mingled to form a pungent cocktail of odours that made his nostrils press shut in protest. Still, it was that, or waste away here. By now he was certain that what lay ahead was a way out, and that was enough of a reason for him to press forward...

Meanwhile, the scent and tracks of the Rex continued on into the jungle, leading to a moderately sized rock pool, a little waterfall, hardly higher than the Dilophosaur was and only barely twice as wide, flowed down into the stony pool before trickling away in a stream which no doubt met with another one further down its path. The tracks led to the rock pool, before changing direction, heading deeper into the jungle in a very wide arc, too wide to be noticed at a glance, which, a few miles away, led back to Thrasher's borders. What stood out most about the Rex was its scent however. There was no trace of any other scent on it but its own. A loner. Additionally, the only blood that could be picked up on it was that of other animals. That was further confirmed as after the stream, the scent of blood vanished. Perhaps the thing that was most expected from the beast's scent however was the fact that there was no sign of illness in its scent, though the taint of mutation was noticeable, even if not as powerful as one would expect from such an aggressive beast...

Aircrest caught the subtle approach of the Deinonychus from his peripherals, the parting of vegetation and the methodical placing of feet being things the raptor recognized instantly from years of observing his fellow predators. He could tell the minute difference between stalking behavior and sneaking. The Deinonychus was doing the latter. Hard pressed with little alternative, he made a long, drawn out whistling that was vaguely similar to birdsong, though it had its saurian impressions.

The green and black Velociraptor could only hope the call would catch the larger dromaeosaur's attention and his alone...

Twincrest kep the tail of the footprints, moving as fast as she could as she tracked them down. It was amazing what one could learn based on just scent. A lone, bull Tyrannosaurus... definitely a large one. Atleast her idea had been correct. but i twas puzzling that she didn't smell it's blood. Apparently, it had come out of the fight more or less unscratched, which, when added up with the horribly mangled spino carcass, only further reinforced her idea... that the Spino had been a very weak, unfit and ill individual, one hardly capable of handling for itself. "Thrasher, you might wan tto keep your loyalists a little mor ein-shape." Twincrest hissed to herself as she kept on the trail, heading deeper into the jungle...
