"Zephora" growled the green and black Rex from the entrance to the cave. The grey-tan Tyrannosaur within eyed him with curious eyes as she got to her feet, stepping out. "Tell me you've heard something about Crusher" she rumbled, Sarcus nodding as he stepped back to give the older female some space. "He's gone to challenge Thrasher. That's the only thing that could've happened. Morphena's also gone, and a few days ago they were considering heading off. I talked them out of it then...but it seems they changed their minds" he growled, Zephora's eyes widening. "No...Not after all these years, no. He's actually trying to get revenge...I thought he'd decided to just stay with us, in his new territory" she growled, Sarcus shaking his head, his expression mirroring Zephora's own.

"He's been restless since he watched his own father and siblings die, Zephora. It's to be expected. He was simply waiting for the right moment to move" hissed a familiar voice behind Sarcus, Ripper's form half concealed by grass. "Ripper? Where've you been these past months? you completely disappeared" growled Zephora. "Yes, that is a bit of a habit of mine. Not the point, though. What IS, is that Crusher drove Thrasher out. Didn't kill him, his decision by the way, but he did force him out" growled the Elder, Sarcus craning his neck as he stared at the Raptor, eyes wide in shock. "He did?! How?!" growled the green and black male. "With Morphena's help, and that of a Spinosaur" hissed Ripper calmly. "Is he safe?" growled Zephora, concerned. "Oh, quite more than that. You should go take a look for yourself. With all that territory now his, it's ripe for the taking. He's going to shrink it down to a more reasonable size, but I doubt anyone will be there to challenge you and Sarraya, or Ruvox and Styx from claiming some turf for yourselves. He's waiting for you, actually" explained the Raptor. "....I never thought I'd ever see the day I'd be walking back into Spectre's territory....Not since he died. I'll go find Sarraya...Then we'll head there. Sarcus, tell your mother about the news. your parents may want to consider moving to somewhere with a healthier food source" growled Morphena, Sarcus nodding, still too shocked to really speak.

"Thank you, Ripper. You've been such a good friend to us over the years...It's hard to imagine what we'd've done without you" growled Zephora as she stepped out of the cave completely, Ripper smirking. "Oh, you'd've managed. A bit more stress, maybe a few more injuries, but you'd've managed. You Rexes are a hardy lot, if nothing else" he growled, Zephora chuckling. "Now, don't keep Crusher waiting. It's a long trek back to the island's heart" he added, the female Tyrannosaur nodding with a soft smile before beginning to head to the hunting grounds where Sarraya had gone to catch something...

Out in the mist in the dark of the night, the faint silhouette of something narrow-snouted could be seen approaching, appearing like a ghost in the fog, materialising from the blinding darkness and heavy mist. A Suchomimus, in search of territory now that Thrasher's had been claimed, had been driven into the swamp in order to find somewhere isolated and easily occupied. Few large predators lived in the swamps, the density of trees and muddy, boggy ground making it awkward to live in. The only animals that called this place their own were usually Spinosaurids and other piscivorous dinosaurs, along with the occasional Deinosuchus or Sarcosuchus. He would just have to hope that this place was not claimed...

"We'll have to watch our step in there then" hissed the Deinonychus as he eyed the Raptor, before jumping down into the lush plantlife below, his landing barely audible as he dropped into a crouch, arms spread wide and head craned back over his shoulders, focus trained on the overgrown entrance...

Ahead of the Monolophosaurus, a herd of Parasaurolophus was grazing, apparently the rest of the lone one's herd, or perhaps unrelated entirely. They were fairly loose-knit, focusing on feeding rather than travel, not in need of keeping a tight formation. As one sub adult male fed from the low-hanging branches of a fruit-bearing tree, the treeline all but literally exploded, the silver-beige Tyrannosaurus charging at the Parasaurolophus as the herd scrambled, sending them into a stampede. Before the young male could reach the safety of the herd however, it was hit side on by the full force of a starving Tyrannosaur's jaws, the Rex's fanged maw slamming shut on it's back just behind the neck, relying on sheer weight and bite force to drag the unfortunate herbivore to the ground. As the frightened Hadrosaur scrambled in an attempt to get to its feet, a three-toed foot pressed down on its flank, pinning it in place as the Rex shifted her jaws to it's neck, twisting sharply with a sickening pop, the herbivore falling limp almost immediately. After spending much of the morning and early afternoon stalking the prey and getting into an adequate position to strike, the hunt had finally paid off...

The green raptor's sight followed the deinonychus' descent before shooting upwards again, level with the opening in the building. His scowl returned when he saw it again: a barely visible shape in the distance, the only sign of its presence being two shiny orbs situated in such a way that Aircrest could infer the shape of the entity's head. They were big, far too big to belong to a raptor of any sort, mutant or otherwise. They were bulbous and fitted onto a rounded skull with a straight snout dividing them.

The shining eyes bobbed rhythmically in the distance and Aircrest knew that whatever creature they belonged to was aware of him; it was conscious of his awareness of it. The display conveyed a sense of intelligence on its part and a sense of playfulness... if not unsettling malice. It knew it had the upper hand, Aircrest knew that, its confidence made it clear. The question then was, why? Did it take security in numbers, or some other, more sinister reason?

Twincrest froze as she saw the outline of the approaching Spinosaurid. That wasn't good... Had Thrasher already figured out she was back, and had sent someone to dispose of her? She wanted to turn and run, but something inside of her told her not to. The fish eater wasn't that much larger than she was, from what she could tell, and she had a venemous bite and spit to give her the advantage. Few dinosaurs that weren't far larger than her kind wanted to face a poisonous predator... If she could scare him away, that would be the perferred option, though.

___________________________

Not too far away, Ironfang shook his head as he slowly moved through the boggy marshland, avoiding any pools of water deep enough to contain a Deinosuchus. it was impossible for him to grasp, a notion that he didn't want to face. Thrasher, the Lord of the entire island, had been defeated and forced to surrender the territory. He wished he could have helped, to aid the giant in some way, but he had only stayed back from a distance, watching as the figure he worshiped was crumpled and evicted.

He wouldn't accept that. No, he refused to let this be! They were supposed to be the true masters of the island, the entire spinosaurid race! They controlled so much, and yet, it was all gone from them. He hissed, slashing his claws against a nearby tree in rage. What could he do, to undo this horrible nightmare? He didn't want to be forced out of his territory, to give it up to some Tyrannosaur..., to the insolent race that had done this act... But what? What could he do to turn back the sun, to undo this nightmare that was beginning to take shape?

It had fallen silent in a lonely region of the jungle. A lone Suchomimus had wandered near a water source, glancing about nervously before it studied the water intently, watching the fish within the water, waiting for its chance to strike. However, the Sucho, in its haste, had failed to notice an orange and grey shape hiding a few meters away, hidden amongst the brambles of trees and vines. Suddenly, bursting forth from the shadows like an angel of death, Ba'al, the murderous Tarbosaur, bullrushed the unaware Suchomimus as it caught a fish. The Suchomimus saw Ba'al as he burst forth, and attempted to escape, but it was already too late; the enraged Tarbosaur descended upon him with shocking speed. Ba'al wrapped his powerful jaws around the Suchomimus' neck, and with a swift turn of his head and a violent tug, the Suchomimus was on the ground, its neck snapped. As the Suchomimus' breaths became ragged and pained, unable to move from paralysis, Ba'al stomped his foot onto its belly and bit down hard, eviscerating his target with cruel intent. As the Suchomimus bled out and died, the Tarbosaurus feasted upon his prey's remains....

Hellfire's gaze shifted to his companion, spotting the Raptor's aggressive reaction to whatever was beyond the structure's walls, immediately staring forward once more, eyes narrowing as pupils dilated, the Dromaeosaurid staring warily into the undergrowth as he waited for his companion to join him. He could not see any other creatures, even though he could faintly smell them over the swamp and waste pools. It was clear whatever lived here knew of their presence, but he couldn't tell what it was, exactly. The scent was unfamiliar to him, and he could not see what Aircrest was seeing. He didn't chance proceeding right now, instead preferring to focus on his environment while his companion caught up...

The Suchomimus closed the distance, undoubtedly aware of the Dilophosaur's presence, though he was not directly approaching her. In fact, he didn't seem to be changing his course at all. She merely happened to be in a similar direction to his destination, and the narrow-snouted hunter's expression showed a degree of disinterest...or perhaps preoccupation with something else, that left him completely careless as to the spitter's defiance...

Twincrest kept her eyes on the moving Spinosaurid, never once taking them off. While it seemed to be ignoring her for the most part, she wasn't going to take any chances, least it be an attempt to lower her guard. She stepped back somewhat, now no longer actually facing the creature, but still having one eye on it as she began to move off in a different direction than where it was going, hopefully to find some food...

The monolophosaur looked up, hearing commotion as he swallowed a leathery chunk of flesh. "Hmmm... Seems that Im gonna have some fun today," smirked Xiang, licking blood off his muzzle before rushing toward the sound of carnage, hearing the frantic trumpets of hadrosaurs. He rushed out of the brush, seeing a parsaurolophus fall to the ground, limp, at a large tyrannosaur, larger than the carnotaur he just encountered. "Let's hope this carnosaur puts up a better fight than that dim witted fool," hissed the crested creature, trotting forward, cletching and uncletching his clawed hands, already feeling the skin and muscle get slashed open by his meat hook claws.

Topside or below, that was Aircrest's dilemma. Was the creature expecting him to charge through the treetops and attack it? It was certainly possible, it would have seen his unorthodox appearance at the top of the barrier and it was not that far a stretch to assume that the raptor was also adept at tree-walking. In fact, his experience in the canopy was the only reason he thought to try such a ridiculous thing. So did that mean meeting it inside the building was the trap?

Or, Aircrest thought, did it anticipate him going against that line of reason? That if he were to join Hellfire down below, they both would walk into an ambush laid by the veiled figure in the distance. Perhaps, even then, both entrances were a trap waiting to be sprung, and it would take all the skill and luck the two can muster to survive just stepping inside...

Aircrest snarled, his eyes slits as he felt a rage welling up in him. These were mutants! Already they had advantages over him and Hellfire, why did they have to create a front of trickery!? Would he be a fool to play the game they had set up, or would he be a fool for thinking he stood a chance in a direct fight against them? His lips curled at the notion of such things. For too long now he was playing the role of planner, putting things together without even a moment's opportunity to prepare. He refused to be outdone by a band of marauding mutants that had all the time on the island to sit around their hovel and decide what to do when unwanted company appeared.

Aircrest lowered himself on his metal perch, muscles tingling as they all pulled taught, ready to release all the pent up energy in one decisive moment. He stared his unknown adversary in its glowing eyes across the overgrowth, his gaze burning with rising fury. For an instant, the move seemed to have the creature perplexed, for it ceased its dancing and cocked its head questioningly. It disappeared thereafter, just as quickly as it appeared, trying to change the rules of engagement no doubt.

That was fine by Aircrest, though. The game was his to play, the rules his to decide. The open space below the leaves was Hellfire's advantage. The treetops were his. The instant the enemy showed themselves--if they ever did--they would be subject to his decree: a swift execution.

The Suchomimus eyed the Dilophosaur, its movement bringing its presence and proximity to his attention, a low gurgling growl coming from the predator as he made his way through the area, weighing the options laid out before him. Attacking it could result in being bitten or spat at with its venom, but would mean food. Leaving it meant relative safety from the venom, but also insecurity where food was concerned. In the end, safety won out over hunger. It hadn't eaten so long ago that it'd risk being poisoned...

Sarraya growled lowly as she took a bite out of the kill, gulping it down to sate the sharp pangs of hunger that tugged at her stomach. Her gaze lifted after another two mouthfuls, mint-green eyes narrowing as she spotted the approaching Monolophosaurus, the pestering scavenger undoubtedly trying its luck. The fact its muzzle was soaked in blood meant it had recently eaten, or at least, attacked something and torn a sizeable chunk out of it. It mattered little however. This kill was hers and her mother's. And the Monolophosaurus would be added to the pile of food if it dared get too close. A warning snarl rumbled in her throat as she put a foot on the kill, reasserting her dominance and ownership of the carcass...

Hellfire, seeing his companion preoccupied above, went for a different approach. receding into the undergrowth filling the unnatural chamber, he began to establish a perimeter, making sure nothing was waiting for them out here. Razor sharp senses focused on his surroundings as he circled, identifying potential hiding spots and even a heavily overgrown corner of the wall he could use to ascend if need be, the Deinonychus finally reaching the overgrown barrier that was the entrance. eyes gazed into the darkness beyond the vines as he tried to identify what awaited them...

Aircrest found that stillness resumed after the eyes disappeared. The swamp was still silent save for the sounds coming from the river and farther out into the trees. The mist still rolled across the ground of the ruined compound. The whole place still reeked for any number of reasons.

The mutants were still inside the building. Of that, the green and black raptor was sure. In the time he spent waiting, he'd realized something about this lot: they weren't the monsters he knew. They weren't the crazed killers Ripper had warned him about, either. These still had some sense to them. They weren't going to rush out of the darkness in a blaze of zeal and swiping claws. They were doing the same thing as Aircrest, refusing to play the game. An impasse. The raptors heading into the building would be no different than walking into the gaping jaws of a superpredator. The mutants coming out, as far as they seemed to be concerned, was no different. Maybe it was the little display of skill Aircrest showed. Maybe it was his and Hellfire's appearance on the heels of Thrasher that made these mutants wary. Either way, if no side was going to engage, the stillness would continue.

Aircrest was fuming at this. If only it were so easy, to live with an unspoken truce. You live with your mutant ilk where you tread and I will live with everyone else and we can both live on this island without going to war at every turn. Maybe this was what Thrasher's ultimate goal was, with him overseeing everything that was. As it stood, boundaries were always being pushed and acts of aggression had to be retaliated against.

Crusher might have spared Thrasher's life despite the years of rage that fueled his quest, but Aircrest refused to let his vision be clouded. All mutants had to die to pay for their collective crimes. Even Fatalis, when the time came.

The mono smiled, already staring at the much larger tyrannosaur, looking at potentially vulnerable areas. 'This shall be interesting,' Xiang thought, counting the spots to strike. He counted at least two spots: the hip/tail area and the top of its back. He mimicked the rex's snarl, moving around, getting enough distance for a crest ram. He'd have to be quick, maneuverable, and use his raptor like tactics to win this scuffle.

Trumpeting a high pitch, piercing note, he raced forward, zigzagging toward the hip region...

Sarraya was not so easily distracted. She'd been guarding her kills from upstarts for several years now. There were very few tricks that hadn't already been tried on her. Staying still, eyes focused and body tense, she waited for it to close the distance, prepared to destroy the stupid creature for invoking her wrath upon itself...

"...bah" growled the Deinonychus, his patience wearing thin as he walked towards the barrier, trying to figure out if anything was hiding around a corner in wait. If not, he would....let himself in. It was time he found out just what it was that awaited in this place...a few fatal injuries never hurt anyone, afterall...

Through the twilight passage, gray streams of light shone into the darkness. Flecks of dust were visible idly drifting past the light that passed through the holes in the walls of the decayed structure. The overgrowth sprawled out across the floor from the outside in like a wild welcoming mat for the deinonychus. Moss clung to the rusty metal floor and vines, like elsewhere, ran up along the walls inside and out, almost completely covering them with green.

The dromaeosaur could see felled platforms in front of him, looking through the doorway. Catwalks with failed supports, hanging at diagonals over the main floor of the building. More walkways were still intact, stretching across the upper levels of the building. There, on the bottom floor, were rows of alien machines. Boxy things of a type that he'd seen before, with the buttons and stained monitors, while others were completely different. These others were cylinders, mostly transparent exempting the grime and other smears that stained them. They were filled with a dark colored, greenish liquid, and dark distorted shapes were suspended within them.

"It seems the bravest one of the two finally shows himself," a hissing voice said from farther inside the building, directly in front of Hellfire. Slinking out of the shadows, the one whose eyes glowed appeared before him. There was more detail to be seen of the figure. A small stature, even by a velociraptor's standards, the creature was utterly dwarfed by the deinonychus. In the dim light, Hellfire could see its mottled gray hide, covered in spots of desaturated yellows.

He narrowed the distance to only about a lunging distance within seconds, only to stop short. He jumped, landing right at the base of the tail, his claws digging into the thick, leathery hide of the tyrannosaur. He held tight, angling his body as far away from the biting range of those wicked fangs, while also trying to keep a strong grip. Hissing, he bite down on the rex's thighs, ripping open the hide, aiming to cripple the beast long enough to take the whole carcass for himself and the other predators that can't take down the bountiful, multi ton herbivores.

The Rex snarled lowly as the Monolophosaurus latched itself onto her side, rearing up on one foot before stomping down, her whole weight coming down on the second leg, shaking the Monolophosaurus off and onto the ground, turning on the spot as she lunged to bite into the foolish attacker's hide, intent on killing it for its mistake...

"Huh" grunted the Deinonychus, expression flat and seemingly unimpressed. "Bravery, you say? It's more that I simply don't care. My friend up there gets too consumed in things...Me...I just wander, wonder, and see where the two take me. What happens happens, where I go, I go. No sense over-thinking simple things" hissed the Deinonychus, his tone surprisingly flat. Behind his level tone however, he was busy trying to figure out what it was he was dealing with. The shape was vaguely raptor-like, but the eyes were too big. His first guess was one of the smaller Dromaeosaurs, but why the enormous eyes? night-dwelling, perhaps? A nocturnal creature? Or perhaps his eyes deceived him, and it wasn't a Dromaeosaurid at all. With the smell of mutation strong on it, he knew what he saw and what it was were not necessarily the same thing...

Almost instantly after touching the ground, the monolophosaurus rolled just out of reach of those jaws, jumping up onto his feet, already recovering from the impact. "Your apparently not as slow as I thought you were," he hissed, circling the rex. Smiling a fanged sorta grin, he jumped, turning in a 360 rotation in the air as he slashed the rex's side, landing a good distance away and out of reach. "You are really nice at entertaining me, trying to kill me and all," he crowed. He sidestepped, swaying on the balls of his taloned feet.

Silently, slowly he made his way around the tyrannosaur's sides. He sprinted, jumping over the back of the grayish beige carnivore, landing several yards away, near a weakening ceiling of a hole underground(he could feel the hollowed area under his feet). Hoping that it took the bait, he waited, crouching within strides of the angry goliath's banana sized teeth...

"All the better, you will find my proposition for you is a matter of utmost simplicity," said the creature in the dark. "Bravery is an avenue to one's death. One who takes what comes in stride is far more reasonable than some full-nest hatchling with something to prove to the world. This is why I will ask you to join the ranks of us Displaced, you are strong enough to stand with us, and secure the rightful future this island holds for us. Our kind will overtake all others, but those who stand with us will have our favor. We won't be Displaced anymore when that day dawns. You can be there to see that day, with the rest of us." The creature made a sweeping gesture with its arms then, revealing that it's forearms were adorned with deep blue and silver plumage.

"You're asking the one who doesn't care to take a side?" hissed Hellfire with a chuckle. "Well, I'll entertain the idea for a bit. I don't care for much of anything, but I can be convinced. What's in it for me?" he growled calmly, taking note of the feathers. A mutant...and seemingly organised at that. The 'Displaced'....sounded like this could be a lot bigger than a stray pack of mindless mutants. No...These were organised groups with a purpose...and that meant there were events going on behind the scenes...

The Monolophosaurus had been too slow in its attempt to get at Sarraya's sides, the female lining herself up with the charging creature before swinging her massive head against it as it lunged, swatting it out of the air and sending it tumbling to the ground several feet away. "I'm not in the mood for this, nibbler. I have more important things to deal with. Leave before I bite you in half" snarled the Tyrannosaur irritably, lips curling in an irritated snarl as the female returned to her spot over the kill, guarding it viciously. In the distance, a faint thump could be felt through the earth, heralding the arrival of another large creature. The female's eyes narrowed, a low rumbling growl reverberating in her throat, too deep for most creatures to identify...

"Your life and freedom, to put it frankly," the mysterious figure replied with a shrug. "We can simply kill you like any other creature on this island, or we can use you for our end. You can help us and live on the island ruled by the Displaced... or you can die being stubborn. Your choice, raptor."

Xiang nodded, already bored with this game. "You will not be bothered by me anymore," ruffed the creature with respect. With that, the amused theropod raced into the brush. Still running he jumped high, digging his clawed hands in the bark of a rather thick tree, climbing up into his nest of a clump of branches. 'What could be coming here with such a carnivore in the area?' he thought while scarfing down a chunk of meat.

Blue yawned, laying down outside of her den, sitting beside the old pterosaur. She stared down below her cliff ledge, watching all the herbivores move around. She's often been doing this every evening since the scarred sauropod rejoined his herd. She sighed, getting up and heading straight for her leafy bed inside the cave.
