"Much appreciated," Firestreak meowed with a slight bow, looking up at the sky as he did. "Though I may not have a choice."

Silence between the two brothers was only interrupted by the faint snapping of Tiberium's jaws as he finished off the squirrel, his forepaws gripping its body, most of its flesh stripped from its tiny bones. Ferallion assumed his role as silent observer once again, keeping watch over his brother and the rest of the clan. The others went about their business without glancing at the two cats at the rock wall enclosing the camp, yet the gray tom eyed them with questioning eyes, scrutinizing the crowds and searching for another pair that could be trained on him or Tiberium-

"So its finally starting" the white tom mewed, lifting his head from his meal. A raindrop had just landed on his nose; something he found funny considering he awoke to melt water splashing onto his snout that very morning. "Water...be it from the Earth or the heavens...seems to be drawn to my face" he thought, amused. Ferallion was about to ask for his brother to explain, but felt a cool droplet strike the back of his head. "So it seems" the gray tom replied. Tiberium stood with the squirrel in his jaws and gestured to the gorse tunnel. "Lets go see if we can find a place to spend the night before the rain picks up" he mewed before jogging away. Ferallion wordlessly followed, keeping pace as he and his brother left the clan.

It was no question why they looked to the forest for refuge rather than the dens located around camp. They were not official members of Thunderclan, its dens were not seen as sanctuary for the loners. There was a stark difference between staying in disowned burrows where the scents of previous inhabitants were long gone, erased by the elements and the den of clan cats, all of whom were practical strangers. By the passing of the showers, they would be back where they were, two drifters on constant tides....

Shadowstar watched the loners leave, twitching one ear as a raindrop splashed on it. Had they decided Clan life wasn't for them after all? Well, whatever the case was, she gave a mental shrug and silently wished them well. She turned to Firestreak, ignoring the rain for now, and meowed, "You remember where the den is, I take it?"

Raven led her son into an earthy cave under the roots of a tree, to weather out the storm. She curled up and was shortly asleep, her thin flanks rising and falling shallowly. While she was exhausted, though, her son was not. Tiger watched his mother carefully to be sure she was really sleeping, then scampered back out into the rain. He was soon leaping and whirling about with little mewls of excitement, trying to catch every raindrop before it hit the ground. When the wind stirred the leaves, his eyes widened in fascination and the little brown tabby bounded off, chasing them and leaving his mother far behind. He didn't realize he was lost until he turned to show Raven his new game, and realized he couldn't see the den. In fact, nothing at all looked familiar. "Mama?" he whispered, flinching as a loud crack of thunder sounded overhead. "Mama?!" he called, more loudly, with rising panic. "Mama! Where are you?! Mama?!" His small voice rose into a wail of terror, the kit never realizing that his cries might be heard by something or someone other than Raven....

The black tom stirred as he picked up an odd sound on the air amidst the roar of rain gainst the trees and earth. At first he thought it was his mind playing tricks on him, but after a few moments of careful listening, he was certain. It was mewling. A cry for help. Rising to his feet, he glanced towards Dustpelt, the brown tom too far gone in sleep to notice. And with that confirmation, the black tom bolted into the undergrowth in the direction of the calls...

It was only a few minutes before Wraith slowly stepped out from amidst a collection of bushes, eyes narrowing as he eyed the young brown tabby, reminded of his own brother at that age. "What's a young kit like you doing out here in the rain?" he growled, the tom's amber eyes shimmering in the darkness of the stormy night...

Tiger looked up at the much bigger cat with terror-filled eyes, huddled in a crouch among the leaf litter. "...'m lost," he mewed, pressing his rain-dampened ears flat against his head. "Do you know my mama? Can you bring me home?"

"I've been wondering where she was myself. Why don't we look for her, hm?" growled the tom as he moved in, standing by the kit and cutting off the wind, taking the brunt of the rainfall as he glanced around, trying to find out where the she-cat was likely to have made her den. the rain had washed away any hope of finding it through scent, so he'd have to depend on his intuition....and the kit's description of their home. He knew the surrounding area well. but with it being relatively generic in the eyes of an inexperienced cat like the kit he had now decided to help, would it be enough?

"I do, but it isn't my place to sleep there. I'll be fine out here," Firestreak responded with a firm nod, respectful of clan traditions.

Shadowstar nodded, though concern for the young tom darkened her gaze. She knew he probably wouldn't take the invitation to come back, but she had to extend it. A leader always cared about her cats. Softly, she murmured, "You're always welcome here, you know."

Raven woke suddenly, not from being scared into wakefulness by the storm, but by the cold jolt that comes when you're certain something's wrong. She snapped her head up, calling her son's name, and scrambled to her paws when she couldn't find him. When there was no reply, she ran out into the storm, her yowl of Tiger's name drowned out by thunder and wind. With panic setting in, even though she knew it was probably hopeless, she started trying to find a scent trail to follow. Not him, I can't lose him too, she thought frantically.

Shivering, the young kit pressed instinctively against the warm flank of the older cat. He was cold and wet, and every time a fork of lightning split the sky, he flinched and pressed his stomach to the ground in terror. "How will we find her?" he mewled. "Everything's so big...where are we?"

The two loners looked to the blackened skies, ears pressed down and their pelts sagging. The shadows were cast away by streaks of lightning and the land rocked by rolling thunder. "Lightning" Ferallion growled, looking from the blanket of storm clouds to the trees that surrounded him and his brother. "Not good" he added shortly after. "Indeed" Tiberium replied, knowing full well that at any moment the fury of the storm could strike the forest in one relentless blow, able to topple trees and start widespread fire. "Lets keep moving. I know a place that we can wait out the storm" the white tom mewed, getting up and heading off into the foliage with his brother in tow.

"You're going to tell me what your home looks like. Then I'll try and find her. If we can't, we'll wait till the storm blows over, then try again" growled Wraith calmly as he watched the youngster periodically. the poor thing was soaked to the bone. He hoped for the kit's sake his home wasn't that far...

"We...we were under a tree," Tiger mewled. "Under its roots. In the ground. But I don't remember where I came from." He shivered, his wet pelt clinging to his small body and sucking the heat from it at an alarming rate.

"Was there a stream or river near you? or a thunderpath?" growled Wraith as he walked, heading for the nearest tree that would offer protection from the rain. He couldn't find the kit's home in this weather without risking the youngster falling ill to the cold. They could continue once it had blown over...with a bit of luck the end of the storm would bring forward some recognisable landmarks for the kit to follow...

"I know. Thank you," Firestreak meowed with a smile. Although he couldn't accept, he appreciated the sentiment.

Troutpelt finally made it back to camp having to struggle with his large catch all the way from the farthest corner of the territory
but he finally pushed his way into the reed entrance he was relived to be able to crawl into his soft nest and listen to the rain hitting the roof above his head but first he had to drop of his catch.

Shadowstar dipped her head, respecting the young tom's choices and hiding the trace of grief that briefly touched her features in the same moment. Firestreak had been through a lot, for a cat so young. She got to her paws, looking briefly up at the sky, and meowed, "We should both get some rest. Goodnight, my friend." With a faint smile, she added, "Try to stay dry." The black and silver tabby turned and padded towards her den, giving a sigh that was inaudible over the sounds of the storm.

"I d-d-don't know." The little tom's teeth were chattering so hard he could barely speak. "I think...there was s-something called a Thunderpath nearby....m-mama got hurt on it one t-time." His eyes widened with fear at the memory of his mother coming home limping badly.

After a while of searching, Raven had to admit defeat. She would find nothing in this storm. Grief tightened her chest until it was diificult to breathe. She curled up in her temporary den, closing her eyes, and thought of nothing but her son.

"Good night," Firestreak responded, unaffected by the rain pouring down on his head as he watched Shadowstar depart with a frown. As the clan leader disappeared inside her den, Firestreak got to his paws and made his way to the edge of the camp, trying to find something to take shelter under. A patch of vegetation, bent by the wind and rain, offered him some relief. The young tom laid down underneath it, his mind racing, preventing him from falling asleep.

Rain pattered against what seemed to be every leaf and rock, the sound of which interrupted only by the distant rolling of thunder. The two brothers took refuge where the clans converged on for their meetings: the four giant oak trees. Their sprawling branches and cover made the place relatively dry, with only a few droplets pouring from the leaves and most of the downpour running down their barks and into the ground. "Wet paws" Ferallion mewed as he pawed at the dirt, preparing to lay down. "Wet pelt" Tiberium replied before yawning. "Good night, Tiberium" the gray loner mewed as he curled up on the floor. "Same to you, brother" Tiberium said before he too laid down for the rainy night.

"Then we will search once the storm blows over. Come. We need to get you to shelter" growled Wraith as he turned towards the nearest cover; An old, solitary oak. Wasting no time, the Tom rushed the kit towards shelter of the tree's wide shade, the massive branches forming a natural umbrella, protecting those sheltering beneath from the cold of the rain above, the curving roots of the tree forming a partial den, though obviously inadequate as a long term home. It would suffice as a temporary shelter...

Tiger did his best to keep up, his small, cold paws slipping and sliding on the wet leaves. "W-what's your name?" he asked, fighting to make his small voice heard over the wind and rain.

"My name is Wraith. Or Shadow, if you like" growled Wraith with a smile as he reached the tree's trunk, sitting between two roots as he pulled the kit in close, proceeding to groom the kit, licking the fur the wrong way to try and warm it up. He had no experience in doing it himself, but it was one of the few things he could remember from his own kithood. It worked for him, and he hoped, perhaps optimistically, that it would work for the kit as well. "What's yours?" he inquired, deciding it best to keep the kit talking, to keep it awake and active...
