Rebin was quick to respond, heading over to the weapons sytems and aiming one of the sideguns at the Tyrannosaur's face, before pressing the trigger. The resulting burst of fire from the turrets would no doubt be enough to detour the Tyrannosaur... Any normal predator would back off if dealt damage from a dangerous opponent...

The plasma roudns hit the rex square in the nsoe, startlnig the massive brute. The creature stepped backwards for a moment, giving the APC some spac,e before Damian revved up the APC's engines and began to speed off. Angered now, the rex gave chase....

"Well, looks like Sue here's wanting to chase us." Rebin said as he saw the Tyrannosaur pursuiting them. Firing off a few more bursts from the turret, he called down to Yukari, "Mind lending me a hand here to drive this beast away?" The woman quickly took charge of a second turret, and also began to fire on the Tyrannosaur, plasma rounds firing at it's hide and skull...

Damian sighed audibly. He didn't want to, but it looked like the T-rex wasn't going to give them much of a choice. The turret atop the APC soon roated backwards, as the barrel began to glow ominously. The armor palted rex continued barreling forward, the plasma bolts striknig its thcik hide, but seemingly doing little but anger it more at this point. As soon as the rex came within range, Damian fired off the railgun, the shell striking the armored thigh with immense force. The slug peirced the thick armor plating on the rex's leg, sending blood and gore squirting out from the wound. With a cry of pain, the armroed rex stumbled and faceplanted into the ground, as the APC sped off. The rex managed to push himself up onto his feet, letting out a paiend yet furious roar, before the wounded titan limped back into the underbrush....

Damian sighed in relief.

"See? Problem solved," Damian said. "Now, I don't think I formally introduced myself to you, Dietrich. The name is Damian."

In a spray of blood, the mammoth of a beast slumped, his body sprawled out over the desecrated ground, dark brown dirt raked up to the surface as if the thing were digging his own grave. The entry wound was positioned over an eye crest, but the bullet hole itself extended well into the eye itself, which hung out of its socket, blood dribbling out along with bits of the creature's brain. If Kane were here, he would have taken advantage of the corpse in the form of a full on autopsy. His current project however meant he would have to make do with whatever samples Jacob elected to gather from the alien animal...for now

"Disappointing" said Jacob simply as he walked over to the dead creature, vision mode changing as he went, scanning for vital signs. Satisfied with the feedback he received, he moved forward, producing a cylindrical object, which hissed as a narrow panel opened along its length, a long rectangular formation extending from within, a low resonating hum coming from the object that extended, Jacob pulling it free as it stiffened and solidified. Walking over to the creature, he sunk the flat object into the creature's skull, the panel sinking in smoothly, cutting through flesh and bone with little trouble, gathering all kinds of data on the skull's internal structure, mapping what remained of the brain, and gathering genetic material from the beast...

"Not bad" said Dietrich, nodding in approval. Little did he know it wouldn't be the last they saw of the beast...it had departed with a guest...

"Indeed," Damian said with an approving nod. He hadn't fired a railgun before, so feeling the weapon's raw pwoer was.... quite satisfying.

A grim shape slithered through the trees, hunting for prey. It had lost track of its previous quarry, and was now searching for fresh human blood to feast upon. But mankind was a rare find in these lands....

"With all this firepower we have, I'm feeling alot safer here." Rebin said as he lef tthe turret firing system, Yukari likewise nodding as she sat back down.

"Hopefully, we can find those probes and leave before something that we can't deal with rears it's head."

"The number of things here that this APC can't handle are next to zero." Rebin boasted. "Relax, we'll be alright..."

"Ve thought the same of our base....Look vhere ve ended up" said Dietrich grimly...

Before long, Jacob had finished gathering his comprehensive collection of genetic data and samples, heading back to Felicity in order to both add the samples to Kane's list of discoveries, and to retrieve some weapons better suited to bringing down big opponents...

"Sure, thsi thing can handle dinosaurs and giant ninja pigs," Damian said, adding in the last creature as a jab at their encounter in the cave, "But take into consideration that the base our good friend here was at was FAR more defensible than this APC is. They had an entire base full of heavily armored soldiers, and probably better equipment than we do. They were completely massacred in the process."

Damian looked at the sensors, which were picking up pretty much nothing at the moment. Good.

"Let's jsut lay low and try to not get ourselves killed. We need to find those probes anyways, and we won't be doing that if we pick a fight with every creature in the rift."

Rebin liiked over at Dietrich and Damian, then over at Yukari, who simply shook her head. Oh yeah... he had nearly forgotten about that already. "Well... Yeah, you do have a point. Let's find the probes and get out of here as fast as we can." Rebin said, sulking down in his seat abit...

Meanwhile, the female revenant that had been watching the whole incident from the trees was no longer there, having left during the commotion....it was just a matter of waiting for the right moment...

Before long, Jacob had reached the Felicity, walking up to the entrance on the side, which slid open with a hiss as he approached it, the Mercenary entering the ship's airlock, being decontaminated before walking into the ship's main chamber. "Oi! Kane! Have a little surprise for you!" he called...

"Probes.....hm" said Dietrich thoughtfully, lifting his left forearm in front of him, a holographic screen appearing as he began to tap against the gauntlet on seemingly invisible keys, the red hologram flickering as it went through data...

"Well I do love me some surp-" Kane's voice echoed over the ship's comm-link before being cut off by an alien sounding warbling. Static started to clog the system as an electrical crackling seemed to emanate from every recess, nook and cranny. The scientist's frantic movement in his workstation was conveyed by his rapid footsteps, clicking and clacking of keys and overall incomprehensible mutterings.

The whole ordeal was just a little less than a minute, if not precisely so. The static dissipated, the warbling became a steady hum.

"...Surprises;" Kane continued. "not like that one though. That wasn't a good one"

"Yes, probes," Damian said as he continued scannign the environment for possible threats. "Got sent into a rift a while ago, but they were never able to get them to come back out."

Damian paused for a moment. "Why? Have you seen them recently or something?"

"Security footage picked up some beasts dragging something metallic in nature a few days ago. Perhaps it vas the probes. I vill need to decrypt the base's data files first before I can draw it from my personal data storage unit" responded Dietrich as he put in a command, a narrow white bar appearing on the hologram as the files were steadily decrypted. It would take time however...

"What the hell was that?" asked Jacob, raising a brow at the disturbances...

"...The sound of progress my friend. Come on down to engineering and I'll show you what I've been cooking up!" Kane replied. He was heard rummaging through his large collection of tools and parts before the comm was shut off.

Jacob wasted no time, intrigued by the young scientist may have come up with, hoping for a solution to their problem with the Rift tether. Walking to the area of the ship Kane used for his lab, Jacob took note of all the equipment that had been brought up to work on the man's little project. "Well well...someone's been busy. Let's see what you've got" said the Mercenary with a raised brow...

Kane then wrestled with a particularly bulky piece of equipment, something that would be more suited mounted onto his armor rather than worn as it was. He turned to face Jacob with a wild grin on his face; straps clung to his shoulders and ran across his chest. On his back was what seemed to be some kind of pack, black and orange in classic OWL colors. It looked like 1950s schizo-tech, something over-sized with an array of what looked like capacitors running along the side and a tube amplifier poking over his right shoulder. A rod inside of it flickered and strobed surrounded by a purple miasma.

A metal cable ran out from the assembly and into a modified Tri-Blade unit. The tool kept with the theme, seemingly too large for the unarmored explorer. He had to hold it like a rifle with the rear of it tucked under an arm. Obscured because of that was the custom port Kane had to build to accommodate his "science project", the device housed in a blocky extension to the butt of the Tri-Blade projector.

Another addition was built into the side of the tool, which Kane was eager to demonstrate. It was a capsule shaped object attached laterally to the Tri-Blade which ended in a cubic module. At the back side of the cube was a large button, which Kane pressed with what could have been a giddy giggle.

The topside flipped up, revealing a holo-emitter. A circular reticule and touch-display appeared in front of Kane with a quick electronic hum, a dark orange with golden outline. The rounded end of the capsule floated forwards a set distance; stopping just past where the Tri-Blade ended where it split into four parts. The parts then began to idly orbit the empty space at end of the tool, a barely visible halo of white forming in their path. White arcs of energy would appear sporadically, jumping across the center...

"Impressive. I take it that's RC-tech?" inquired Jacob, recognising how the massive cannon-like weapon seemed to pull apart and levitate near the end of it's 'barrel', similar to his own assault rifle's grenade launcher/RC-Pulse Emitter...

"What else? There is no substitution for a good OWL quantum-particle entanglement launcher!" Kane said, raising the barrel of the storm-gray projector and admiring the neon glow that emanated from the three slits than ran across its interior. "Well...that is the intention. The science is there but there's nothing quite like a good field test to get a grasp on where we stand here," he went on to say, bringing up the image of the colossal tether on his holo-display. "...and as long as things like that stand, we need to get something functional, fast..."
