Tiberium hissed quietly, but said nothing else. Through his narrowed eyes he looked towards the direction he heard the yowl, seeing that his brother hadn't left the area at all. "Damn!" he thought. Did Ferallion really expect to fight off this whole group alone?

With some space put between him and the she-cat, Ferallion turned his back on her and proceeded to jog back to where his brother was. He intended it to show that he was not interested in fighting, but was aware that it was an invitation for any less than honorable cat to attack him regardless. That is why even with his eyes turned away from her, he did not let down his guard.

"Hmm...I wonder...Do you think a talk from Mapleleaf would set her straight? Or is that being a bit too optimistic?" growled Shadowsoul idly as his paws flopped to one side...

"A talk from all of StarClan probably wouldn't set her straight," Firestreak murmured. "You can't expect to change who she is like that. Someday, somehow, she might just learn something, but she has to make that decision; not you, not me, not Falconflight or even Shadowstar." It was definitely a tall order...

The she-cat immediately gave chase, bounding swiftly over familiar terrain at a pace the loner couldn't match.

"I'll ask you again," the tom growled, his claws drawing thin streaks of blood from Tiberium's skin. "Why are you here?" The third member of the patrol - the cat that the intruder had initially attacked - was no where to be found, but its scent still lingered around them.

"We. Were. Leav...ing" Tiberium growled through bared teeth, finding it increasingly difficult to restrain himself. It was bad enough having to endure the pestering of the apprentice without having the warrior take advantage of his refusal to fight back.

For a time, it appeared that Ferallion gave no thought to the cat closing in on him. It quickly became apparent that was far from the case when the she-cat was seconds away from reaching him. His back arched and Ferallion reared up as he twisted around to face the warrior. One foreleg was extended, his paw swinging around powerfully at the she-cat's face.

The she-cat sprang as Ferallion turned to fight, leaping straight over the loner's head in one graceful motion. Landing softly on her paws behind him, she turned and launched herself at his hindquarters with claws outstretched.

Ferallion nimbly leaped out of the way of the she-cat, landing squarely off to her side with his haunches raised. "I do not have time to spare for your games, warrior," he growled at the persistent cat.

"And to think you were implying I was pessimistic" responded Shadowsoul with a low chuckle, though he did not pursue the matter of Shortear further. While Firestreak was probably right on that point, he still thought a talk from the right cat, the right role model, would be able to start the young Warrior on the path of humility...

Firestreak merely shrugged, his tail twitching idly as it hung from the branch. Although he felt bad lazing around, there was always time for a little hunting before it got dark.

"Games?!" the she-cat yowled, her fur standing on end. "You're on our territory, fox dung! Get out before I drag you out piece by piece!"

"You are welcome to try. I only ask that you allow me to retrieve my brother first," Ferallion replied, his disposition cool and even, almost a direct contrast to the cat he was speaking to.

"Whether your brother leaves with his tail still attached is up to WindClan now," the she-cat growled, calming down ever so slightly. "You made it that way when you entered our territory."

"You mean as we were leaving your territory, yes?" Ferallion asked with a growl. "You are aware that was the point of me running - to leave even quicker," he added. Without waiting for a response, he turned away from the warrior and continued on his way back to the group of cats surrounding Tiberium.

"You attacked us!" the she-cat spat in fury. Her pelt looked more like the hide of a hedgehog with each passing moment. The WindClan warrior tore off after Ferallion, once again clearing the distance between the two in a matter of seconds.

The gray cat jumped backwards, passing over the she-cat as she charged ahead of him. "I did not lay a paw on you," he growled when he landed. "And I am sure my brother has his own reasons for what he's done. But I will not know what they are if you insist on interrupting me every five steps."

The WindClan warrior slid to a snarling halt. At the very least, she was between him and his goal now. "Look," she growled, summoning an incredible amount of willpower to curb her anger, "if you leave now, I won't tear your ears off." The she-cat was glaring daggers at the loner. "And so long as you stay away from our territory, I will ask my clanmates to release your brother, under the same conditions."

Ferallion's rebuttal was accompanied by a surge of anger of his own, his eyes growing large as he glared daggers at the she-cat and his fangs exposed to the sunlight. Despite this, his voice lacked nuance as he told her: "I could listen to your hollow threats for hours on end without them fazing me. I could tolerate your brashness for as long as I am required to. But under no circumstances will I yield to some ungrateful brat after I helped fight to retake the territory your clan lost to actual rogues." He approached her without fear, his head held high and his expression austere. Whether or not she made good on her words or moved out of the way was irrelevant to him; he was not going to accept this treatment. The time to be civil was no more.

"Are you that mouse-brained?!" The she-cat's fury came back with a vengeance. The warrior's claws scored the grass beneath her paws, as if she wished it was the loner's hide. "Let's assume you're telling the truth about your heroism; do you think that it makes any difference?" she yowled, the sound echoing across the moor. "ThunderClan saved our clan that day, and they are no more welcome to take our prey and occupy our territory as you rogues! Do you know nothing of the Warrior Code?!" Her tail lashed to drive the point home. "Helping our clan does not entitle you to our service!"

Ferallion stopped less than an inch from the she-cat, as if silently daring her to attack him. "What service have I asked of you?" he growled, "Had you not arrived when you did, the only sign of me and my brother being here would have been our scents in the breeze. Our business only pertained to that of passage, nothing more." He narrowed his eyes and snarled, "You lay borders, so you think own the ground we tread upon. Does that mean you own the air over this place as well? Does me breathing violate some rite from times of old? Such arrogance has no place in my company."

"Where does it end, rogue?" the she-cat snarled, pushing her face out to meet her adversary. The two were just about nose to nose, staring hatefully into each other's eyes. "First you come and go as you please. Then you start taking prey. Next you'll want to start a little family of rogues, and invite every crowfood-eating piece of dung that lives in the forest!" The warrior bared her teeth. "This stopped being harmless trespass when your brother attacked our patrol."

"And yet he has done nothing since," Ferallion responded, breaking eye contact for split-seconds to look over to where his brother was. "I will not bother to address your paranoid rambling. Clearly life in a clan has done more damage to you than anything I can accomplish if two departing cats that you insisted on chasing is too much for you to bear."

The she-cat opened her mouth to continue the argument, but shut it again with a thoughtful expression playing across her features. She seemed to relax, her hair slowly lying flat. Then, without warning, a large speckled WindClan tom launched himself out of the tall grass that surrounded them. The resulting collision bowled the loner and the new arrival over, and almost immediately the she-cat's fiery spirit was reignited.

Long, worn claws were pressed against Tiberium's throat, while his captor's other paw rested squarely on his chest. "Don't want anyone to get any crazy ideas, now do we?" the warrior growled, his ears flicking in the direction of the commotion. Surprisingly, there was no sense of arrogant victory in his tone; he seemed to be advising the loner truthfully.
