Riptide started circling as well, moving in the opposite direction. A low growl rumbled in his throat, gaze flicking from the raptor's eyes to his shoulders and ankles, watching for the smallest flicker that would give away his next move.

Riptide tensed, his eyes locking onto the movement., searching for tension in the muscles and tendons that would show the black raptor was about to pounce.

Riptide's own legs tensed, and he made to dodge as if he were fooled into thinking the dark mutant was going to attack. But a glance at the other raptor's eyes showed him there was no real target - the mutant wasn't planning to spring onto his back or at his flank. It was a luring tactic - the other wanted him to attack first. But that was a move that left Riptide open, and he was not so foolish as to try it anyway and see if he got lucky.

Riptide lunged upward to meet his opponent, arms reaching up to strike the face, the eyes in particular, one killer claw raised to try and use the dark raptor's momentum against him by slashing at his vulnerable underbelly.

Darkness kicked downward as he neared, feet pushing away the raptor's hands as well as knocking its kick off target, at least from reaching his underside. Instead, the dark raptor collided with his foe, causing them both to tumble across the ground...

Riptide snarled and kicked at the dark raptor's side, trying to get it off of him, his toe claws scoring down its flank.

Riptide let out an angry snarl, kicking out at the raptor again, trying to get back on his feet.

Riptide quickly flipped back onto his feet and pressed his advantage, lunging at the black raptor while it was still trying to find its balance. His nose was full of the reek of blood and adrenaline was coursing through him, sharpening his reflexes. Time to show the stranger that he'd messed with the wrong raptor.

Darkness, reacting fast, smashed a clawed hand awkwardly against the advancing mutant's snout, throwing off the lunge, but still allowed the raptor to advance. Once again the dark raptor rushed forward to meet it, shouldering the mutant's chest while its head was still jerked to the side, knocking the air from its lungs...

Riptide let out a breathless hiss, bringing up his hands to once again dig his claws deep into the flesh of the dark mutant's shoulder. His head turned back and he lunged, expecting to feel his teeth meet skin and muscle.

Darkness, moving with the momentum of the lunge, fell backward, out of the raptor's reach by a few inches, kicking up at it as he fell onto his back, both feet striking its lower chest, hurling it backwards with the force. The dark raptor, too, fell hard on the ground, though he moved onto his side to protect from any unexpected attacks...

Riptide grunted and landed heavily, somewhat dazed, getting to his feet as soon as his head had cleared a bit. Giving himself a shake, he started circling the fallen dark raptor, waiting for an opening to strike.

Riptide's ice blue eyes narrowed slightly, his lip curling as his own blood trickled down the side of his muzzle. He could feel his injuries throbbing in time with the beats of his heart, the sticky crimson liquid oozing out of them. He'd need to find a way to end this fight before the other mutant managed to land a serious blow - but this raptor didn't seem like the type to make foolish, costly mistakes.
