The synth ships' hard carapaces shrugged of glancing blows, though those that took direct hits from heavier shells were blown out of the sky. Eight-legged dropships raced towards the ground, carrying large, metal containers, other strange synths, and four-wheeled APCs, while sleek gunships, armed with large nose cannons, focused on the incoming fighters, firing extended, accurate bursts of dark energy pulse rounds at their foes, the cannons able to track and shoot even moving rockets out of the sky...

The fighters perform evasive maneuvers, but many of them are destroyed. EMP cannons fire at the incoming dropships, the powerful ectrical currents threatening to overload its systems should it take too many hits....

EMP blasts also come from the colony, aiming at the main ship, while the lasers mainly aim at the smaller ships to eliminate them...

As General Rukh enters the capital, a council man rushes over to him and says, "General Rukh. Please follow me; there is a problem with colony 5520." The general sighs before he goes to follow the councilman into the council chamber...

The cruiser quickly drifted out of range, simultaneously calling for reinforcements. The colony was more than inhabited: it had resistance. A very valuable prize for the Combine indeed...

Being semi-organic as they were, the dropships themselves were only partially effected by the EMPs, dropping rapidly in altitude in short spurts, before finally landing successfully in a clearing on the outskirts of the city. The dropships' containers opened, and heavily-armored, humanoid troops whose bodies were completely covered in their blue-black body armor thundered out, following by strange, tripod-mounted synths with glowing blue eyes. The creature raced ahead of their fellows, moving with agility and grace despite their horrifying appearance. The APCs rolled forward as well, their roof-mounted pulse turrets swiveling as they scanned for targets. Similar tripodal synths to the ones that had been released from the containers were also dropped directly by the synth crafts, being extremely tall and almost ungainly in appearance. With odd, mechanical bellows, the monstrous synths lolloped forward, marching behind the infantry at a slightly slower pace. The dropships took off again, heading back to their cruiser for resupply...

The infantry are met with a wall of Sheekh footsoldiers, firing their plasma weaponry onto the advancing creatures. The commander brandishes his plasma sword, indicating a forward march. A group of sheekhs march forward, plasma rifles readied......

"We recieved a distress call from 5520 almost immdeiately after a force entered their airspace," the councilman said. "Should I send a legion to reinforce it?" Rukh replies. ""No," he says. "I would, however, like you to send "MOTHER" to investigate the situation." Rukh nods before activating his communicator. "0261, do you read me? This is general Rukh. You are required on colony 5520 immediately."

The prototype awakens almost immediately and responds telepathically that she is ready to do so and enters her pod. It then launches off the planet she's on and heads towards said location. "Excellent," Rukh says. "We need you to investigate an occurance. There was a large ship detected in their airspace, when a distress call came form the colony. No communications have been recieved since then." "MOTHER" replies that she understands. "Good," Rukh says. "Find out the problem, and eliminate it." The prototype simply replies a quick farewell before cutting communications and focusing on getting to the colnoy as fast as possible......

The incoming tripods were shockingly resistant to the incoming plasma fire, but nevertheless used nimble dodges and rolls to move in close without being gunned down. They returned fire, launching clusters of blue, glowing, spurlike flechettes that embedded themselves in even the Sheekh's thick skin, before exploding violently, tearing holes in their foes' hides. The footsoldiers behind them were more cautious than the synths, radio chatter emanating from their sealed helmets as they took cover behind trees and rocks, preparing to fire their SMGs and Pulse Rifles...

Multiple sheekhs fall from the fire, but many take cover from the fire as well, seeing the dangers of their technology........

The commander lets out a war yell, and a few Ghru'loks emerge from behind the footsoldiers, the heavily armored abominations firing their plasma cannons at the tripods, the rounds homing in on the semi-organic machines, but not the smaller footsoldiers..........

A few of the Combine Hunters, as the agile synths were called, were blown away, white fluid spilling over the ground as they were destroyed. The Hunters swiftly leaped into close combat with the Sheekhs to prevent the Ghru'loks from firing again, lest they hit their allies. The Hunters' sharp forearmlike appendages repeatedly lashed out with startling quickness, piercing the Sheekhs' hides over and over and tearing them apart swiftly. The Combine Soldiers turned as one and all opened fire at once, concentrating their fire on one Ghru'lok at a time...

The sheekhs are forced to fall back from the monstrous hunters, before they return fire with plasma mortars and rifles.....

The Ghru'loks, seeing that combine soldiers, change tactics and fire their weapons in bursts of four, aimnig at where the footsoldiers were ducking in cover, whilst one of their one falls form the heavy fire, the beast's body falling with a thump and the humonous cannon crushing a few sheekhs and a hunter that were unfortunate enough to be caught under it.......

The Soldiers scatter quickly, though some are caught in the line of fire and fall, their pained screams often heard over their helmet-mounted speakers. The rest quickly recover and continue to fire, adding a few grenades to the mix for good measure. Right now, all they needed to do was keep the Ghru'loks busy until the Striders and APCs arrived, then assist the Hunters with the lighter infantry...

The Ghru'loks continue their tactic, getting wounded and some looknig ready to fall.....

The sheekhs keep up the attack, firing their weapons at the hunters, the plasma weapons doing a good amount of damage to the machines........

"MOTHER's" pod continues on its way, the prototype locking coordinates on 5520... She activated her pod's thrusts, knowing she was getting very close now........

The Soldiers continue their usual tactics, but their numbers began to steadily thin. Suddenly, a charge-up noise sounded from the forest, followed by a trio of blue energy beams that each completely vaporized a separate Ghru'lok. The Combine Soldier quickly moved towards the Sheekhs, supporting the Hunters, as the three Striders stepped out into the open, their autocannons thundering as they dumped pulse rounds into the remaining Ghru'loks, saving their Warp Cannons for another opportunity. Behind them came a few APCs, which launched homing missiles at the Ghru'loks in addition to their pulse turrets. Their back hatches opened, and more Combine Soldiers stepped out to join the battle...

Many Ghru'loks fall, and those who remain begin to climb up the cities' walls to fall back......

The Sheekhs become disheartened upon seeing the approaching foot soldiers and striders, the commander bellowing, "Fall back!" the platoon begins to do so, falling back inot the walls of the city.....

The remainder of the legion in the city readies the city's defensive turrets and the legion itself. It would in for a long battle, possibly its last in commission......

As the Combine began regrouping outside the city walls, several of the soldiers began setting up a strange machine near one of the APCs, getting the materials from the vehicle itself. The Striders moved to the front, followed by two more, which faced the city walls, never flinching. Hunters moved up with them, and the Gunships, having established air superiority by this point, hovered over the battlefield, keeping their cannons trained on the city...

"This is Viereen calling Master Fleet, over. Come in Master Fleet." the expedition leader, a seasoned Vespid veteran, chittered over the communication line. "We hear you Viereen. What is the status of the operation?" came a reply, the Vespid pleased by the quick response. "Basic fortifications are in place. No resistance thus far. Definitive signs of conflict elsewhere in the system, though." the Vespid reported quickly. "Resource analysis?" the other, clearly a kroot, questioned. "Negative. The host planet is devoid of all life. Scans indicate some minerals deep within, though. The rest of the system remains unknown." the Vespid replied, its wings buzzing behind it. "Conduct the analysis of the other planets in the system, and give the occupying body the Ultimatum. If sufficient resources are found, and the occupying body resists, reinforcements will be sent to take the system." the kroot stated, as if it were routine. "Roger that Master Fleet." the Vespid replied before communications were cut.

A couple rounds of plasma cannon fire occasionally fly out of the base and slam into or nearby the combine soldiers, but nothing much seems to fire from within the walls of the city.........

The more fragile soldiers move out of range, but the tougher synths stay in the front ranks, keeping their weapons trained on the walls, while the rest of the Combine continued to construct some sort of miniature comm station. Though the transhuman infantry and synths weren't very effective communicators, there was one man who was very qualified for the job. A man they were attempting to contact...

Soon, the men and women finished up the course a few seconds apart from each other, and were quickly moving towards the next one, Anders smirking in amazement. Ryan, on the other hand, was still having trouble keeping the recruits from mis-firing or screwing up badly with a weapon, making sure as best as he could nothing was malufunctioning...

The massive peices of machinery activated with a low electronic hum, multicolored lights flashing to life on a few panels. The machines were semicirular in shape and were installed directly into the walls. They were built out of a dark gray-purple metal and made a low rumbling once they started to work. Buldges started to appear in the base's walls, dull thumping sounding off as they spreaded out from where the machine was placed. The buldges were small and moved out in straight lines, occasionally diverging and forming branches that ran along the building, linking up with other devices. In no time at all, every device installed into the building's walls was connected by the automatic conduit. The bulges were effectively pipes drilled out by the devices, serving as wires now. Outside the base, a broad red stripe had appeared, glowing as energy seemed to literally flow around the building along the stripe. On the roof, four spires akin to the Foidaria's energy cannons pointed to the sky, three situated around one tall spire that had a red stripe around its tip. This would allow the base to contact the main Orakian fleet, the Mailru and other vessels. There were large, flat machines set up outside and connected to the base via broad, black metal cable. Three cables extended from the machines, each curving down into the ground. If one was to stand in the general area, they would feel tremors as the drill headed cables were heading deep into the planet to tap into the geothermal energy it had to offer. The spaces in the walls had been closed off by circular doors, the door panels themselves able to fold up. When they opened, the panels swung up in one direction and slid over each other, forming an arched opening. When they closed, they simply fanned out again. With construction finished on the base itself, the treaded vehicles drove out of the base, the first of the Orakian workers now setting up the various facillities. They linked up with the machinery transports once more before heading back into the ship. The mech builders made their way over to the chasm, the mining base being their next project.

The people working at the next course were preparing to breach the room they had to clear, everyone having their guns at the door while another guy kicks it down quite hard, barging in before everyone else. Amanda watched it all unfold, seeing as to how good her new squad was fighting, knowing they'd all be excellent for her and Ryan's platoon they both commanded. Ryan still ha difficulty working by himself as he help the rookies out, the recruits soon getting a hang of it, Harrison sighing in relief moments later. "Hey, 1-9?" the same engineer asked his partner after some time from working as they returned to the ship, heading towards the mess-hall. "Yeah, 2-3?" the latter responded after a slight moment, while the former replied, "you are seriously still sarcastic, over..."

The sheekhs stood in formation as the walsl slowly began to crumble. The commander shouts, "Maulers, take the front!" a horde of huge, bulky Sheekhs emerge from the ranks, fully armroed form head to toe, carrying giant mace like devices with a strange cannon looking thing at the tip. The maulers adopt a fighting stance. Their job is to hold the line for the other, less armored Sheekhs to shoot at the advancing foes........
