OOC: Profile posted, massive explanation on the Invader tripods (rip off's of the war of the world ones) not for the faint hearted
The sound of metal clanking against metal echoed through the access tunnel. Joey Kong flexed his fingers over the chairs armrests... A small virtual screen infront of him showing him the machine infront of him bobing up and down as the platoon made their way towards the launch bay. He flicked a finger across a small touch panel on the tip of one arm rest, the screen zipping around untill it showed him the tripod behind him, the massive machine clanking along awkwardly, its three legs scrambleing foreward to catch the machine before it fell with each step it took. Invaders were designed to operate best at 30 meters off the ground. with another 10 meters for the Invaders shell, fitting into a 20 meter tall access tunnel wasn't exactly easy. The maximum stretch that an Invader could reach up to was 50 meters, but this limited speed severely as the stride was shortened. Joey kept flicking this information through his head. He was quivering with excitement... his first hot drop.... He flicked the finger across the panel again, showing the view infront of him. For all he knew, he was floating in space in a comfortable arm chair with floating hologram screens of information all around him. Reality was, there was no way to tell which way was up down or to the side with an Invader. It minimised disorintation in a fall or when dropping. He activated his targeting computer for one moment, to make sure for the 20th time that it was working. A single green X slideing across the screen, tagging the different parts of the tripod infront of him, marking its legs, the weak points between the armour plates, where its concealed weapons lay and most several possible power centers. He knew which was which. The one near the center was the actually the cockpit, the one just behind it was the real power core. There was enough energy flowing through that machine to power a small city... Joey chuckled at the thought, it probably cost around the same as a city would aswell... His commanders gruff voice filled the radio "
Sky Fire 6. Get your Mechs ready for the drop, set power levels." A much more informal voice responded from one of the tripods at the rear "
Like we havn't had them ready for the last 4 hours. You only need to tell us once, mac" Joey felt some of the tension relive itself at the following conversation. It reminded him of the unit he was in, warriors would watch each other's backs and work in perfect harmoney... The launch bay came into view and he saw the two tripods infront of him approaching their breachers. The breachers were cones attached to the nose of the Invader during drop, inorder to penetrate the atmosphere and take the force of impact when hitting the ground. He manuvered the tripod over to it, its large feet clunking off the metal floor panels. He pushed the Invaders nose into it and heard the tell tale clicking whoosh. He tapped a few buttons on a virtual pad hovering next to his right hand. The tripods telescopic legs retracted up into its base the metal giving off a faint slaping sound as it fit into place. He heard a loud clank as the feet finished stowing within the Invaders hull. Now it was time to wait... He could hear faint echos as the force of explosions from the battle outside rumbled through the assault ship. The light fizz of lasers and thudding booms of of GPC shots strikeing hammering through armour....
