The Koultians nodded and left the room, heading back the way they came onto the shuttle, leaving for their own one. As the leader climbed aboard his own ship once more, he said absently into his suits communicater "Yes general, they are will see to it..... No I didn't actually, there wasn't any need... I don't think it will matter.... Roger that.... We are on our way...." The cruiser's engines reignighted, the pitch black sleek craft rocketing away from Xoridia...
Meanwhile, a small circular ship drifted towards Tatooine, deep within the empire.. the damaged ship wobbeled about, having sustained significant damage enroute to its destination, which was nowhere near Tatooine... No... This ship was one of the many the Koult had detected heading towards the mysterious planet nick named "The Root" The name had come from this very ship. When the koult had intercepted it, the fanatical aliens aboard could only talk about great power on The Root world.... Whatever this power was, the koult wanted to know. If it was genuine, they would take it before anyone else.... The ship was critically damaged and then left float away. Unwittingly, the Koult had left records aboard the ship, records telling off the Root World and what it supposedly held....
The pod tore through the clouds and for the first time, Joey saw his destination... A huge dark city, lit up by perodic flashes of gunfire from anti air bastions.... Various buildings lit up red on his screen as Mac, their leader, tagged the objectives...
Joey tapped a few buttons and their was a soft whoosh, the first layer of the breacher peeling off and being turned to dust in the wind, having been weakened so much during entry...
A deep voice grunted "Sky Fire 3, touching down."
Drek...
Silence...
A gruff typical squad leader's voice"Sky Fire 6, touching down"
Mac...
A long pause and then an echoing rumble
A softer, russian sounding voice "Sky Fire 5, touching down"
Vic...
An acented cheerful voice "You call that touching down? Vicky, touching down implies that your pod is left in at least 5 peices. 1... 2... 3... 4... 5.... 6,7,8,9 good god woman how did you manage to smash that"
Laughter broke out across the radio but was then interupted by Mac's commanding voice "Snap it shut kids, this aint no training day."
The same cheerful voice from before "Sky Fire 1, touching down. Vicky? You takeing notes?"
Adam
The conversation had been like some sort of drug, relieveing Joey of all the tensity and nerveousness inside him... He relaxed, the task ahead not seeming so daunting now...
The ground begun rushing up to meet him, smoke was billowing out all around the front of his pod, buildigns passing him out. He threw one hand foreward against a virtual toggle, the front of the pod lighting up with blue flames as he activated the retro thrusters. The Pod lurched, even within his bubble of blissfulness, Joey felt the g-force as the hundread mile an hour pod slowed, the retros dying out barely a meter above the ground as the pod hammered into it. There Invader shook roughly, cracks tearing through the pavement on either side of him, screams registering in his sensors...
He radioed hurriedly, satisfaction riseing through him"Sky Fire 4, touching down"
Adam's voice broke over the radio "Nice touch down Rookie, looked like a pro."
Just then did it register in his mind that Joey had just made a perfect text book touch down, minising tramua to the pod while still sending out a large dust screen....
"Sky fya 2, touchin' down
A dramatic sounding bright male voice, Spike. Only a weirdo like Spike would say that.
Mac called over the channel "Sky Fire 6, everyone power up and lets do this thing..."
Joey flew into a flurry of button pressing, a light whoosh of air as the Invader detached from the breacher, the "Shhhh-ken!" of slideing armour panels shifting to reveal the legs. A light thump as the back two legs slapped against the ground. Finally he reached to his side, a control stick slideing out of nowhere to his hand, he pulled up on it and his view screen begun to zoom out, exiting the cloud of dust to show the plaza he had landed in, a loud clicking sound coming from the telescopic legs as they pushed the invaders shell high into the air. The machines third leg had been planted against the breachers back.... He flicked the view screen around, watching crowds of civilians fleeing the gargantuan machine... It was suprising to see civies out here. He thought they would have been in bunkers or something...
"Sky Fire 3, going weapons hot."
He flicked the view screen around, locateing Dreks Invader, the massive machine already high above the industrial buildings, the shell bobbing up and down as the machine begun to move foreward...
More calls from the others about going weapons hot.
joey was the last to call through, having taken time to double check the correctness of every step. Eventually he had his basic shield activated and his weapons powered up. He triggered the GPC's, a small virtual screen opening out of nowhere, showing the tempature of each cannon and the current flow of power. He triggered his Ion cannons, the names on the screen changing and a second one opening above it, being blank. When he was using it for real, it would show the currently tagged surfaces.
He triggered the disintergrator guns, the screen showing the current firing mode and ammo remaining. He was capeable of building more ammo but he didnt want to divert his all important power supply into that task when he had a massive drum of the stuff in each weapon....
He made the call "Sky Fire 4, going weapons hot."
Mac called over the radio "Sky fire 6, everyone, engage objectives and fire at targets on your discretion. Remember, what might be a civilian might also be a soilder running towards a howitzer. Take no Prisioners."
The chilling message rang into Joey's ears... the first of many orders to come that would send goose bumps down his skin....
