Dinosaur Island RPG

"We should just head out now before that rex returns for us," Riley finally said, walking around a bit, seeming to monitor the area around the group...

"Like we aren't easy prey for that thing," muttered Hiero. He walked towards Barnes and held out his hand indicating he'd like his firearm back.

Dodgson nodded at Riley's suggestion. "An excellent idea. I suggest we leave now, before Sue comes back for more." Barnes looked at Hiero for a few seconds, before finally handing his Galil back. "Try not to shoot anyone, okay?" he said quietly. Turning to the rest of the mercs, he shouted, "Let's get a move on! Dodgson, you have the map, so lead the way." Dodgson nodded, closing his briefcase and holding it in one hand, trying to hold the map out with the other. "Due east," he said. "There should be a watchtower on the way there, so we can get our bearings." He and Barnes carefully pushed their way back into the forest...

Riley followed behind the two, his gun slightly raised as he scanned the area for anything suspicious nearby. He kept his guard up as they went into the forest once more, slightly squeezing the trigger of the Ak-47 to the sound of... something in the distance...

Hiero readied his Galil, "I diddn't for this or for that ******** inability to warn someone about very real threats no matter how much you hope for the best," he thought to himself. Hiero trudged along also he thought about the quote the doctor had said. Soon one word was ringing in his head, "Nature cheats."

Rick followed the rest of the group, his carbine kept at the ready. He thought over Dodgson's answer to his question regarding the number of dinosaur species on the island and how many were likely to be a threat. If only ten of the carnivore species were large enough to threaten them, then this was at least some partially comforting news, as they wouldn't have to be constantly worrying about every carnivore, though Dodgson had mentioned there were raptors on the island and the mention of this made it sound like these raptors would be creatures that the mercs simply couldn't dismiss as not dangerous...

Maxwell let out a low growl and followed the rest of his group. Sheathing the knife and readying his shotgun, Maxwell surveyed his surroundings with great focus. He didnt want to be caught off guard.... not that one couldn't here an eight ton behemoth thundering towards one, but one nonetheless should keep themselves ready...

The walk was a relatively short one. The forest seemed to have quieted down after Sue's rampage, having scared off smaller predators in the area. Dodgson pushed past a pair of shrubs and nearly walked right into a metal pole stuck vertically in the ground. Barnes stopped him and looked up. "Is this what we're looking for?" he asked. Dodgson craned his neck, peering up through the trees. "Yes, I think so." The watchtower was a skeletal lattice of metal rebar that extended up and out of sight, obscured by the canopy of the jungle. It was square in shape, and there was a ladder on all four sides. The tower was partially overgrown with jungle creepers and vines, but otherwise seemed intact. Barnes turned to the mercs. "Alright, any volunteers?" he asked, his piercing gaze scanning over them carefully...

Rick said to Barnes:"I'll climb up there, sir."

Barnes nodded over his shoulder at the watchtower. "Then get climbing," he said curtly. "The rest of you, keep an eye out. We don't want to get ambushed."

[Iceking]

After putting his carbine in it's backpack on his back Rick walked over to the nearest watch tower ladder and began to climb, moving at a a slightly faster than normal climbing speed because of the growth on the ladder that he had to be careful about. A few minutes later, he reached the top and began to look out over the jungle. Looking east to start, it didn't take the merc long to spot the canyon that Dodgson had mentioned. Rick called down to Barnes:"Sir, the canyon that Dodgson mentioned is in the direction we've currently been heading. It looks to be about half a mile away from our current position."
Ooc:If the tower is too tall to be climbed in a few minutes, I'll edit my post.

"Good job," Barnes shouted. "Double time it back down here, Rick. We're heading out as soon as you do!"

Before Rick could respond, a small, feathered creature emerged from a trees below and to the right of him, bursting from the foliage with a screech and gliding past Rick's head on what appeared to be four gray-feathered wings. It had a long, stiff tail however, unlike a bird, and quickly glided towards the edge of the watchtower, landing on the railing. The creature looked like a miniature Velociraptor, but with even more extravagant feathers, including flight feathers on its hind legs. It stared curiously at Rick with wide, yellow eyes, bobbing and twitching like a bird...

Rick eyed the strange feathered dinosaur looking at him, backing away towards the nearest ladder, pulling his berreta out of it's holster at the same time. The merc didn't fire just yet since the creature had not yet given any indication it was going to attack, but he kept his eyes on it, ready to shoot just in case...

The little dinosaur continued to watch Rick curiously, until it was distracted by a small fly that buzzed by. Head twitching, it quickly turned to the insect and hopped after it with a chirp, snapping its fanged jaws at the fly...

Seeing the dinosaur distracted by a fly, Rick holstered his berreta and glanced behind him quickly, seeing that he was almost to the latter. Reaching it a few steps latter, he climbed down quickly, getting back down to the ground a few minutes later. The merc was ready to move on, prefferably before something larger than the feathered dinosaur showed up...

"What took you so long?" Barnes asked. "Enjoying the view? We have a job to do, you know."

[Iceking]

Rick said to Barnes:"I was delayed because of some feathered dinosaur that can fly. I was backing towards the ladder to get down, but didn't move quickly just in case it tried to attack if I turned my back or moved too quickly. Luckily, it's currently more interested in eating a bug." He then glanced at Dodgson and said:"What species of Dinosaur is that?"

"We made no animal capable of powered flight, but I think I know what you're talking about," Dodgson said. "It was likely a Microraptor. They can glide significant distances, but they can't fly like a bird." "Yeah, fascinating," Barnes growled. "Let's keep moving. Dodgson, lead the way." With that, they headed back into the forest, towards the canyon...

Maxwell follows clsoe behind Barnes and Dodgson. He hoped they would get to that place soon...

Rick followed his comrades through the jungle, his carbine back in his hands. He had a question about whether or not Microraptors were likely to be a risk to the mercs, but he chose to let it wait for the momment. Once the group got to the canyon, he would ask his question...
