A distance away, Jacob followed, tracking them roughly, his attention still heavily focused on his surroundings, his hand firmly gripping his knife, checking the compass in the hilt swiftly, before continuing his movement through the undergrowth, now wary of his surroundings after having seen the invisible entity from earlier. it was undoubtedly one of the various species here on the island. which one, was still a mystery, however...

The Carnotaurus continued to stalk the two human stragglers through the forest, staying at a significant distance to avoid detection. Though they didn't seem to be in any hurry to rejoin their herd, the Carnotaurus wasn't about to take any chances. Its scales were thick and strong, but it knew from experience that humans were tenacious, even for prey animals...

Riley continued on, trying to stay at the center of the group of the remaining mercs while scanning around, his gun raised every time he did...

David was keen to the enviroment ever since he started to moved along with Jacob, so it was no suprise to him when he realized the...thing lingering out in the jungle was following them. Its movement betrayed its position more so than the wind, revealing its figure against the background it was trying to blend into, allowing David to make out some of its features when he peered into his surroundings, like the horns on its head. The sound of rustling vegetation as it moved through the low lying plants was also another cue to its pressence. By now he was certain there was a dinosaur stalking them... but why? It was intruding on the territory of what was surely a dominant predator on the island and was wasting other opportunities to hunt by following them. "We're being followed" He said to Jacob with a low tone. "Though Im guessing you knew that already, huh?" He added shortly after, contemplating his options...

"You're learning" responded Jacob simply as he continued, the pursuit of the creature having not escaped him as he tracked the rest of the group. why it followed them but didn't attack remained a mystery. did it think they hadn't seen it? perhaps it was more curious about the newcomers than hungry? impossible. it had no doubt seen humans before. this organisation wasn't so old that this thing could've grown up not knowing of them. but what was the answer?

David only grunted in response to that. Part of his training was to be be observant of his surroundings and others that might share his space. Judging from how Jacob acted, the same was true for him. "What do we do about it then?" He continued to say in hushed tones. His mission objective may be to get the research base, but his personal objective was to stay clear of threats to his life. If avoiding them was not an option, he would resort to eliminating them...

"Do you have any silent weapons?" asked Jacob simply as he walked, responding to the question with one of his own...

"Do combat knives count?" replied David simply, carefully navigating a tangle of bushes and shrubs.

"Think you could kill something that size with your knives without getting killed yourself?" asked Jacob bluntly...

"Not a chance. Dont know what its capable of, but I have a feeling it would be like fighting a bear...or harder. Ironically, people call me Grizzly out in the field." David said casually. "I could get a few rounds off at it, Im a pretty good shot with a rifle, and even better with the laser sight active. The noise might bring the big one back though, or something just as bad" He said quietly, thinking out loud

"We don't want the others to know we're here. as far as they're conscerned, we disappeared into the jungle and never returned. We'll leave the animal for now. if it makes a move at us, you're free to plug it full of holes. be ready to run like the Devil himself is chasing you, because once that gun goes off, that's exactly what'll happen" responded Jacob calmly as he kept moving...

"Roger that" David said, nodding. He continued to move through the underbrush in silence, returning to his vigillant watch of the surroundings

The half-mile walk was quick and uneventful as well. Only the occasional roar in the distance, and the chirping of birds and a few Microraptor in the trees above broke the silence. The vegetation began to thin and the trees reduced in number, until Dodgson finally pushed past them and into the open. They were at the edge of a plateau now, overlooking a (relatively) short, but wide canyon. The river that used to run through it had long since dried up, leaving behind a small, desert-like landscape throughout its interior. The canyon walls weren't very high, and the entire thing was actually small compared to continental canyon formations. A few isolated rocky outcroppings dotted the otherwise flat landscape, and the mercs could see a metal trackway, like that of a monorail, winding across the canyon, heading to the far side. Dodgson looked over the edge, seeing that the slope wasn't too steep, and there was evidence of a trail leading down, though now partially obscured by brush. This was exactly the spot he was looking for: the monorail system was designed to end at this area of the canyon, where it was easier to get in and out (the trail was artificial). A similar location was at the other end of the monorail. Dodgson sighed in relief when he saw their goal below: a trio of large, cartlike vehicles, all attached like train cars. The two on the ends had small, one-man cockpits, allowing the "train" to be operated in both directions. The center car was larger than the other two and more spacious, designed for carrying cargo. The carts were lined up next to a small structure, which functioned as a control station of some sort. Had the cars been at the other end of the canyon, they could have automatically called them back here with an emergency override in the station. It would be of little use now, since they had to manually control it to get everyone across, but the station could possibly hold supplies of some sort...

Barnes paused to take in the breathtaking view of the canyon before him. It was no Grand Canyon, that was for sure, but it was beautiful nonetheless. Shaking off his reverie, he turned to the mercs. "Our objective is below. Rick, Hiero, Max and Jack will come with me to secure the building and search for anything we can use. The rest of you, follow Dodgson and wait for us at the cars."

Rick nodded to Barnes when he was told that he would be going with the commander into the building. There was no telling what the building would be like once they got in, but the only way to find out would be to head inside and face the risk that small dinosaurs, possibly aggresive ones, could be possibly be within the structure...

Once he knew where they were headed, it didn't take much to up the pace. being a two man group, Jacob had an easier time moving ahead of them. by now, he and David were in the cargo compartment, in a hollow formed by gaps between several large steel containers, out of sight unless they were searched for. From the average viewer's point of view, it seemed to be a simple stack of steel containers, the bottom stack lined up 2 rows by 3 columns wide, with the top containers forming an L shape, the long part of the L made up of one large container, with a smaller one pressed against one end of it, the long part pressed against the wall. the fact was, the bottom stack had a couple of boxes from the inside row, out of sight, missing, underneath the long container above, thus forming the hollow. he had made sure the train car was clear when he arrived, and now eyed the group from between the cracks, darkness hiding his form from them in the shadows of the train car. "They've arrived" he said lowly, before sitting back in the U-shaped hollow amidst the containers, checking his watch...

"Took them long enough" David replied, occupying himself in his short period of free time by checking his rifle once more. "Did that dinosaur go after them after we lost it or what?" He added jokingly, looking up from his gun to his comrade.

The canyon was full of eyes, just as the jungle was. Watchful eyes. Angry eyes. All of the creatures were on high alert. Intruders. The thought passed through the group of protective females like wildfire, through a series of nearly invisible signals and eye contact. They blended almost perfectly into the background. Silent and motionless, they would remain undetected unless the intruders got too close to their nests, or they received a signal to attack from the leader of the pack.

Max got his shotgun ready, making sure his sidearm was easy to access in case he needed something of less power. "I'm ready to roll whenever you are, sir. I'm currently hoping ol' rexy isn't down there waiting for us."

Maxwell nods and hands it to Riley. "Couldn't find much that I found interesting..."
