The sound of smashed foliage soon reached his ear. Whatever the creature was was now stampeding through the vegetation around him. The fact that he could hear it only motivated him further. The man hurried onto the ramp leading to the nearest vessel, ignorant at the possible danger of collapse. By now, being dropped into the sea would be a safer bet then staying on land. Against his better judgment, the man looked back to try and spy his pursuer. He knew he would regret it. The trees parted as a gargantuan reptilian creature, this one without a sail, emerged into the open area. Although it was some distance from the ship, its enormous strides quickly made up for it. The man turned away, bolting into the helm section of the ship, knowing that the creature, in order to be here in the first place, must have been capable of crossing onto the ship. Pulling the railrifle from his back, the man placed it on one of the control panels, facing the way he came. Looking through the scope, he was able to see through the metal wall between him in the outside, quickly spying the large creature thundering toward him.
Nightmare knew the human was there. The scent was fresh, and headed in the direction of the cursed floating caves that brought them here. His suspicions appeared to be correct: This human was involved with their capture, retreating back to their constructs hoping for safety. The thought angered him further, the massive Saurophaganax unleashing a loud bellow, quickly closing the distance between him and the ship...
As the creature moved closer, it made the shot easier. He didn't know exactly how his weapon would fair against a dinosaur, of all things...but this beast clearly wasn't one to simply forget about him. He had to take the shot now, before it got too close. Taking a deep breath, the man aimed at the dinosaur, the scope image showing various organs and muscles...
That's right...KILL- Nightmare thought, a split second later a green wispy projectile ripped through the ship, plunging into his stomach, exploding out of the Saurophaganax's side. He howled in pain, though most of the wound had been cauterized by the projectile itself. Fighting through the pain, he moved toward the human. Distracted by his adrenaline-fueled rage, Nightmare completely disregarded the shape moving above him. A small object pierced his neck, giving only a small pinch, which was completely forgotten thanks to the pain he already experienced. Nightmare found himself slowing immediately. Had the attack effected him so badly? The pain began to fade...the Saurophaganax's movements began to slow...and he fell forward, landing on his stomach with a tremendous crash.
The man could see the almost motionless form of the creature, surprised by what just happened. If his shot effected it so badly, it should've been immediate...and while the man stepped out of the helm compartment, he almost didn't see the shape either. Almost. Looking up, the man watched as a rectangular craft descended toward him, evidently powered by four jets at each corner of its body, allowing it to hover like a helicopter, or point back and fly like a plane. As it neared, he could see one of the open side compartments, where another man with a rifle was located, giving him a brief wave. The craft touched down almost silently on the deck of the ship, the man strapping the rail rifle to his back before approaching. Much to his surprise, his commanding officer stepped out of the compartment of the craft, a cigar in hand.
"Sir...what are you doing here?" the man asked, giving a hasty salute. "I came to tell you your job is over." the other man said with a smile, gesturing for the sniper to enter the craft. As they did, it lifted back off effortlessly, the man looking out over the overgrown park. Looking back at his companions, he saw the other armed man sitting at the opposite side of the craft, a container of ammunition resting next to him. Tranquilizer darts. "Tranquilizers, sir?" the man said, confused. The general nodded, lighting his cigar. "Command came to an agreement about what to do about this little 'problem'. I'm sure you're aware of that incident with InGen?" he asked, taking a puff. The man nodded. "That's where they all came from?" he asked, though it clearly was the only possible explanation. The general nodded. "...No disrespect, sir, but why go through all the trouble of capturing them? Wouldn't it be easier to destroy them?" the man asked, choosing his words carefully.
"Normally, it would. But we're saving humanity here, Cyrus! We've got to think outside the box, our survival as a whole depends on it!" the general explained with a smile, offering a cigar to Cyrus, who turned it down. "What do you intend to do, sir?" he asked, now very intrigued. "Take them back to their island, of course." the general responded, shrugging, taking another puff. Cyrus looked even more confused. "...How is that saving humanity, sir?" he asked, once again choosing his words carefully. "Not one with an imagination, eh? Well, you know how the situation is now. Lifestock animals are almost extinct, and we can't live off crops forever. Bad weather in a few key farming zones and BAM! Another half of the population starves. We don't have that half to give, Cyrus." the general explained, suddenly very serious, shaking his head. "...So you intend to use them as food?" Cyrus said, not in a state of disbelief. "Its not as cut and dry as that...but yes, if it comes to it." the man said, pulling the cigar from his mouth. "We take a few of the meatier ones for breeding. We test the meat, make sure its safe to eat, and start using them as livestock. Simple, really."
"But what does this have to do about returning them to their island?" Cyrus asked, just about dropping all trace of subtlety. "It will take time to determine if the meat is safe to eat...and we're not out of options just yet. Lets just call their little island...a backup plan. Clearly they've been able to survive there. It would be more cost effective to bring them back to that environment, then to create an artificial one, don't you think?" the man said firmly, taking another puff. Cyrus nodded after a few moments of thought. "This is a great day for humanity, Cyrus. I hope you know that." he continued with a smile. "I suppose it is." Cyrus said with a shrug. "This turns our understanding of the events on its head, Cyrus! We thought nothing survived the outbreak. Our discovery here means other cities might have use as well. We'll need to send search teams to them all. The salvage of nonperishable food will also help." the general explained, now grinning. "Sounds like you've got this all figured out, sir." Cyrus said, also smiling, watching as they flew over some low-lying buildings.
As Rainus attempted to make another snide comment, a small object whizzed through the air, striking the raptor's neck mid-sentence. With a snarl of surprise, he smacked the dart off his neck, as if it were a bothersome insect. Then he fell face forward into the grass covered concrete. Zheja, Darkness, and Mist glanced at each other, not yet grasping what had just happened. Another dart hit the back of Zheja's head, causing him to jolt forward. "OW! Ok, that was defin..uncalled...for..." he began, words becoming slurred as he fell to the side, asleep. "This is bad. Very very ba-" Mist growled, backing up slowing, only to be interrupted by a dart to the lower neck, slightly off place thanks to the movement. Darkness, by then, began to run, a dart whizzing through the air just as he reached the alleyway he emerged from, striking his back, causing him to crash to the ground in the darkened alley. As the four raptors slept, the craft that was hovering almost noiselessly in the air high above them began to descend.
A dart struck the green raptor's back, causing his legs to buckle. High above them hovered another craft, too far to be heard by those below, the darts meeting their target with incredible accuracy...
