"What in hell just happened!" barked Seiga, his carbine still held in offensive stance, "What was that!" The ranger looked at each if his elites, "If any of you have even the slightest clue! Please, inform me!" The elites remained quiet, there was no answer... not a single one, it was simply impossible for them to recall what killed their squad mate. The rangers stood still, all returning Seiga's stare. "I suppose your silence says it all..." responded Seiga, his angered and frightened expression hidden behind his harness. "If I may, commander," started Huga, "I would really wish to suggest we move on from this event... for in my own personal opinion, I request we depart from this ship," the ranger turned his gaze to Erdu's lifeless body, "And as much as Erdu was a dear friend to us all... if we stay, we'll obtain the same fate." The sangheili grunted in agreement, and Seiga sighed, "I agree... we proceed onward, and shall return to the ship..."
The halls and corridors of the Irrefutable Succor were drenched in fear and unease, the rangers drowning in their thoughts of death. The clanking of their feet disrupted the silence. They watched their radar as an owl hooked on prey, never taking their eyes off it. they had been headed for the hangar, where they're boarding craft was stationed... their only ticket out of this hell hole. They stopped for nothing... not even to save a straggler, this was a matter of life and death, even pausing for a moment could lead to their death, for they were not dealing with a creature of empathy or moral, no... whatever was aboard this drifting ship, was something savage, something barbaric, something never before encountered by the Sangheili... and possibly the world. They pressed on, the remaining four of Seiga's squad, they were close, very close; however, what was four rangers, soon became three. For a moment or so, the missing comrade was unnoticed, Seiga finally turning his back to check up on his squad. He halted, and so did the others, "Hypta!" Seiga barked, "Hypta!" The elite gazed beyond the squad, seeing the ranger, frozen in place, a deep stare fixed on something. "What is it!" Seiga barked, "We have no time for this!" The ranger kept his stare, and slowly lifted his finger, pointing it towards something, "Commander... please come." Seiga sighed in aggravation, and lifted his carbine, rushing towards Hypta, the squad following. "What is it?" he asked once more, "Tell me Hypta." The ranger stood frozen, and left but a single comment, "...look." The ranger turned his head, gazing into what was supposed to be a mess hall... but no longer was it a cafeteria, no... it was something horrific. "By the gods..." whispered the ranger, "What is this." The squad was silent, staring into the disturbing image which was the mess hall, the walls and pillars all covered in a thick biomass of some sort, strange egg-like objects scattered across the ground, covered in a thick layer of mist... but what was most disturbing, was the hundreds of Kig-yar and Unggoy bodies, which were ever-so-neatly plastered to the walls. Each individual, covered in the slimy biomass, each one unconscious. The hall reeked of a disgusting odor, the scent strong enough to make you vomit. "By what demon was this created? What monstrosity would have the audacity to create such a thing as this?" remarked Huga, his stare fixed on the poor souls, "This is not natural... this is not right... this is simply sickening." Seiga sighed, "All the better when this ship is destroyed. Come now... we must leave this place."
The elites had begun to move on, however Hypta remained frozen, never had he seen such a disturbing image in his life, of all the war and bloodshed he had seen... never had there been something as sickening as this. "Hypta," began Seiga, "We must leave now..." yet the ranger kept his gaze, only this time, it seemed to be focused on something different. Seiga sighed once more, "Hypta, we must go!"
"Look! One has awaken!" yelled the elite, running into the hall. "Hypta!" barked Seiga, as he and the squad chased after. They ran through the hall, running over eggs and slimes. Hypta stopped and stood still, the elites stopping behind him, "What is wrong with you!" yelled Huga, "Why must you stall us!" Coughing could soon be heard, and the all of the elites' attention refocused towards the source, one of the unfortunate individuals on the wall. The jackal coughed, trying to speak, "Please..." Hypta began to rip the biomass off, "Let me get you out of this mess!"
"Please ki- ki..."
"Please what?"
"Ki- ki- kill... me"
Hypta stopped, dumbfounded, "Kill you?!"
"Please! Kill m-"
The jackal began to shiver, it was trying to catch its breath, the coughing returned. Hypta stared in awe, as well as Seiga and the others. "Kill me!" screamed the jackal, "Kill me!" Hypta stared at Seiga, confused. "Kill me! Kill me! Please kill me!" The jackal began to scream louder, now as if in pain, and the elites had no idea in how to respond. Hypta began to pull off more of the biomass, "Calm down! We are here to help you!" The jackal's screams became louder, "Please kill-" but they were silenced by a loud crackling noise. Hypta stared at the jackal for a moment, confused in many ways. The screams returned, and the crackling grew louder, grew more painful. In a moment, too quick to retaliate, blood shot from the jackal's chest, the blood spraying on Hypta's harness. The ranger recoiled backward in shock, and watched the jackal in awe. The screams grew weaker, and sounded more or less like moans of pain. The body twitched ferociously, the kig-yar's chest spraying blood in all directing, it grew disfigured. The elites continued to stare... they were confused, what was going on? The jackal's screams stopped, and the blood calmed, Seiga sighed, slowly approaching the lifeless body in curiosity. He examined the jackal, more interested in the chest, wondering what in hell happened to the poor soul. He heard a faint noise, it sounded something like... like a squeal. Seiga listened closely, and in a heartbeat he was sent back by a loud squeal, the chest of the jackal exploded, and emerging from this inside, was a small creature, looking similar to what they had encountered earlier. "Open fire!" screamed Seiga, and the squad bombarded the creature with gunfire. The animal's screams echoing throughout the hall. "Hold!" Seiga barked, the squad halting their weapons, "That is enough! We are leaving now!" He soon began to walk off, but was halted by the sound of squirming. "Commander... listen!" whispered Huga, the squirming getting louder. Seiga cocked his head up, and listened. "It's nearing..." said Hypta, "They're nearing." The hall erupted in beeps, for the elite's radars were going off rampantly. "Commander! We're surrounded!" yelled Huga, "There numbers are unbelievable! 30... 40... 60!" The squirming continued... but no enemies were seen. The radar was going rampant... but not a soul was in sight. The squirming soon turned to hissing, and Hypta lifted his head... and hell broke loose.
