Seeing the explosive be detonated, Mortum pulled his magic away from the Devastator and instead used it to draw objects in front of him to protect himself from the explosion....

Kala hit the ground with a hard thud and a grunt, muttering, "That... was bigger than I thought it'd be..." He craned his neck to look at where Selk had once stood as the smoke cleared.

A crater stood where the mighty Devastator once was, the armored suit itself in several large pieces, mostly limbs. The central control unit that made up the bulk of its body, however, was laying close to the edge of the crater, smoking. All that was left of Selk was a pool of orange, bubbling fluid--once the Cephian himself, only liquidized from the sheer heat. Kala shook his head. "What a waste of a good soldier..." He sluggishly got to his feet, waiting for Galaak to join him. He felt itchy and uncomfortable from the heat, even in his chilled suit...

Zakai slammed a metal fist on his ship's control console in rage when he saw the explosion. "D*mn that idiot! Wasting his time toying around with a human!" With a furious snarl, he said, "Bate... another change of plans..." Over the com unit, Bate's voice crackled. "I saw, sir. I'll take them out." "NO! I want Kala alive! Flash-freeze that Ascatian and bring the criminal to me!" "On it, sir..."

Mortum dropped the shield of rubble, seeing the destruction caused by the explosion. The machien was destroyed; he was rescued indirectly by sme outside force. Panting, Mortum checked his wounds. They were deep, and would take a long time for him to recover, if they ever recovered. Rising to his feet and dusting himself off, Mortum glanced to his side and noticed Kala. Curious, the human approached the Cephian.

Galaak stood up, seeing the seared crater left from the detonation, a strange haze lingering in the air around the blast zone. A light post was strewn across the street and water gushed upwards from a destroyed fire hydrant. So much destruction was left in the wake of this battle, and this was not even caused by the more destructive weapons available out beyond this world's star. But at the cost of such damage was the loss of an enemy. Would Zakai and his remaining ally really carry this skirmish on? The Ascatian peeked out from the alley to where Kala was, reeling once more. "Kala, if you can still move, get over here now" he messaged urgently. He could not risk destabilizing the affairs in the city and on the entire planet even further

By now, the site of the battle was devoid of any civilians, who had since fled. Sirens began to fill the air as a small army of police cars fired down various streets, surrounding the site of the battle from a safe-but within effective weapon range-distance. Seconds after the cars slid to a stop to surround the various beings, the officers inside climbed out, pointing sidearms, SWAT armaments such as automatic weapons, as well as a few shotguns, at the assorted characters. The strangeness of the scene made them hesitate for a moment, however...

Kala turned to face Mortum, looking him up and down. "Um... alright, look, all you need to know is that I'm helping your kind... if you ARE a human, anyway. I've got to go, but--" He stopped mid-sentence, seeing Zakai's ship move in over the street. "Run while you still can," Kala said, turning and heading for the alley...

Halfway back to where Galaak was watching, a second shape joined the fray. The craft looked similar to the Cephian Trooper, only significantly larger, with an eight-foot-long, hooked "head" with six long tentacles trailing behind it. The craft zoomed in just below the Cephian Warship, making a beeline for Kala and Mortum, MOAR charging...

Appearing beside the Ascatian was his droid, rippling back into sight once it dropped the cloak. Upon seeing the smaller Cephian ship, Galaak assumed it was a fighter, meant for speed and damage output, but not for durability. At best, it was just slightly more armed than his own craft. The bright beam of light shone down into the alley after he entered the order and he and the robot walked into it, ascending into his ship. Native law enforcement was on the scene and still Zakai insisted on carrying on. Head to head combat was becoming much to dangerous. He and Kala needed to get aboard the warship, while E-doch confronted Bate's...

"Who do you think you're messing with, Craven? Pointing a gun at us... is a death sentence~" The taller of the two gang members hissed at the scientist. Both their guns wer also trained on Craven, who seemed to not be worried at all, as he continued to raise up his gun, pointing itup at the sky.

"I do not aim my gun to harm any of you, but to bring out your third member." Dr. Craven spoke as he tilted the gun a little, then fired. A soft thud was heard, immediately followed by a voice sreaming out, "OH CRAP!" From the sky dropped down the third thug member, who crashed down ontop of a garbage bag...

Spotting the light and energy signature from Galaak's ship, Zakai opened fire on it with rapid-fire energy blasts, not so much intending to destroy but to distract. While the Scout was agile, Bate would not survive a hit from that cruiser's cannons, and Zakai needed him alive...

The Scout ship zipped down, abruptly lowering in altitude as the now-startled Kala sprinted for the light. He wasn't nearly fast enough, however, not even getting to the alleyway before a beam of freezing energy from the Scout's MOAR smashed into him, emitting a bright blue light. As it dimmed, it revealed Kala, unharmed except for the fact that he was frozen solid in mid-stride. The Scout did not change course, instead gingerly plucking the frozen Cephian from the ground with a pair of its tentacles, swooping up and around, relying on the warship's cannons to cover its escape back towards the larger craft. Bate ignored the humans below, focused on escaping. Kala would easily survive being frozen (thanks to the Cephians' immunity to cold temperatures), and Bate was willing to bet that Galaak wouldn't risk firing on him. Even if the plasma blast didn't incinerate Kala's form, the height from which he fell after the Scout was destroyed would not doubt shatter him...

The blasts spread across the cruiser's shields but did not manage to pierce them. Before Bate could complete the capture, E-doch's cannons opened fire upon the scout ship, the craft's weaponry still controlled by the autopilot. Meanwhile, Galaak had stepped out of the airlock after the chamber was finished with sanitation, followed closely by his robotic companion, which was now rolling beside him. He was notified of the ship's automated attack and was quickly making his way to the cockpit. He was already fearing the worst for Kala if the scout ship came that close...

The police, confused by the display overhead, quickly open fired on both crafts with any weapon that could reach such a distance...

The cops' bullets did little to slow the Scout down, which was shockingly agile, jinking around E-doch's plasma blasts with incredible ease. Bate prided himself on being a masterful pilot of all Cephian craft capable of atmospheric operation, and the Scout ship was no exception. He only paused when he hovered over Kala frozen body, using it as a lifeline to protect from potential attacks from the ship above. While Bate plucked Kala from the ground, Zakai decided to add an extra attack to the fight, firing a pair of missiles at E-doch while still peppering it with gunfire, trying to force Galaak's cruiser away...

Mortum, shell-shocked at what was occuring before his very eyes, did not have time to respond to Kala. Though, he knew that one of them was friendly, he knew not which one to strike. So he opted to send blasts of dark energy at both, fearing that they will both harm the city...

Aya soon heard her phone ring, and answered it hastily.

"Ummm... yes hello?"

"The hell are you?!" An officer shouted. "Didn't you get the call?!"

"I'm off duty, sir," Aya said. She could see where this was headed.

"Well...." the officer said. She WAS right. She had worked most of the day, but this was urgent. "We still need you back. Some serious ****'s going down and we need as many officers as we can get."

Dammit... "Alright. I'll go down to the station. I'll be there in like five minutes."

"Drive fast." The officer hung up.

Aya sighed as she put on a jacket and headed out to her garage. She hated it when there were urgent calls... and not minor ones.

The ship rocked as Galaak got into his seat, the straps running across his body once he was situated on it. Shield power was dropping fast once Zakai began firing on him, the warship's strong weapons eating away at his energy defenses. He cursed and pulled his craft away, the cannons slipping back into place and the ship disappearing as the cloak covered it entirely. The combination of law enforcement and fire power forced him to retreat... for now. He would find his way onto that warship somehow and bring it down himself if it meant rescuing Kala...

Bate's Scout ship vanished into a aperture that opened in the belly of Zakai's warship, disappearing from sight before Mortum could effectively attack it. "Sir, I have the criminal and have docked. I'm taking him to the brig now." Zakai laughed, and turned his ship back towards the marshland. "Once Kala thaws out, report to me. I want to interrogate him personally. Guard him until then. We're not leaving until Kala tells me everything I want to know..." The Cephian warship, with a flare of its engines, zipped away from the city, leaving the devastation it caused behind...

The Ascatian cruiser trailed behind the warship, the captain of the vessel sitting in silent vigilance. The shields were climbing back to full power with each passing minute and E-doch was storing the information it acquired from the appearance of the SWAT team, weaponry, vehicles and attire. The droid was once again stored in the inner workings of the ship, which seemed to be more lively than the statuesque pilot, who was now exploring the inner reaches of his mind. What could he have done different to prevent this? Should he have waited and risked capture himself or invoking the ire of the city's armed forces? Should he have pursued the scout regardless of Kala being on it? Would destroying it and the armor at the center of this debacle diffuse the matter, or send Zakai in to a murderous frenzy? He was used to methodically plotting his next course of action, taking cautious regard of the variables that could send his plans awry. When the unexpected struck, he tended to linger on the moments before and after, retracing his actions and thoughts, analyzing them, finding their causes before questioning what he could have done differently. This was not regret, this was preparation for the next encounter, training himself to recognize his tactics and options, learning from his mistakes to warrant quicker and smarter thinking in battle.

Yes, when Galaak got like this, the wide array of technology in his craft seemed more alive than him...

The police watched in confusion as one ship disappeared into another, before the largest flew away at an inhuman speed. A few got in their squad cars and tried their best to follow, while others continued to point their weapons at the last remaining being: Mortum...

The journey to the marsh was a short one, with Zakai not particularly concerned about avoiding attention or dodging potential ambushes. Galaak wouldn't try to shoot him down, not with Kala on board. On top of that, he had little to worry about from the humans. Their weapons were inferior, and he doubted they would follow him all the way into the forest. The warship slowed to a hover as it reached its former landing site, now burned, blackened, and devoid of life. Zakai's attack had had an interesting effect, but it wasn't the Cephian's concern now. The ship slowly descended back to the ground, and when it finally landed, Zakai stood up from his seat and grabbed his rifle, heading deeper into the ship. He knew leaving now would prompt a chase by the Ascatian. He needed that explorer out of the picture, and he knew exactly how to do that...

Galaak brought E-doch to a hover over the Cephian warship, just a few feet over its red hull. Not long after, he stepped out of the craft's starboard entrance, heading out across the wing. That was one thing he learned from the previous encounter, the Gravity Manipulator's telltale signature revealed the ship's location despite being mostly cloaked. By taking the side exit, E-doch's energy signature was marginal for a few moments before vanishing completely; the entrance closing and the craft completely invisible. With him was the droid. Despite not having the bomb anymore, the robot still contained the virus that should bring down the warship's systems and its cloaking device meant it was an invaluable scout. Galaak dropped down quietly onto the Cephian craft, and the droid was as silent as a specter when it landed soon after...

The Cephian warship's hull was mostly featureless, with a few protrusions here and there, but nothing that would mark out a hatch. In truth, there wasn't any side entrances in the hulls of Cephian ships of this size, only a main hatch and the numerous hatches underneath the craft to drop troops. There was a mine bay at the rear of the ship, but it was too small for Galaak to fit through easily, and was hermetically sealed from the outside anyway. However, the loading ramp beneath the nose of the ship, leading up to the main hatch, was open. Of course, it might as well have had a sign that said "THIS IS A TRAP" hanging above the doorway, though it was clearly the only way inside...
