"Riley, shut it," Maxwell says irritably before turning to Dodgson. "Sorry for disobeying orders sir, but I thought you were in deep trouble when I heard the gunfire and the explosion, and I dragged Riley here along with me."

"Fair enough," Barnes said. "Still, the last thing we need is more of my men running off into danger. We already lost three people, and I don't plan on losing any more if I can help it."

"I will avoid defying you again, sir." Maxwell says. He was glad Barnes and the others were in one peice.

It wasn't long before the Carnotaur was turned into a few stray chunks of bone, the Tyrannosaur making its way back out of the facility, its hunger sated...

The merc nodded and didn't say a word after that, but still had his weapon at the ready as the group continued on...

Barnes nodded and turned to Jack. "You find anything?" Jack shook his head. "We didn't get the chance. We were lucky to get out alive at all..." Barnes sighed. "Better than being eaten, I suppose..."

When the group got back to the security system, Jenkins let them back in, and Dodgson looked up in surprise and expectation. "What happened?" he asked. Barnes sat down with a tired sigh and said, "Well, some Velociraptors got to Bruce, then they were driven off by the Carnotaurs that, I think, Jacob and David drove off, according to Jenkins. I killed one, then the second became a meal for that Rex." Dodgson's eyes widened. "Sue?" Barnes shook his head. "No. It was too small, and her scales were... different, somehow." "Lack of armor," Jenkins added. "Sue was the only Rex we genetically altered before... well..." "That reminds me, Doctor, weren't you going to tell us that story?" Jenkins perked up. "Oh, yes, of course! Please, all of you, sit down. This is quite a story..."

Persephone leaned against the nearest wall. She was intrested in hearing the rest of the story. The woman reached for the zipper of her backpack, opened it, and pulled out the same water bottle from before...

Maxwell sits down and gets ready to hear the story. He was tired anf frustrated now. Besides, it wasn't like they had much else to do...

Riley knelt down rather than sit and holstered his gun, ready to listen to Jenkins...

"Where to begin... yes..." Jenkins said thoughtfully. "Well, Lewis, you may not like it, but it appears we had a mole in our organization..." Dodgson's eyes widened. "What? But, our security, we--" "Now now, Dodgson, any human being can be bribed or coerced into doing reprehensible things, no matter their allegiances. You know that as well as I do." Dodgson opened his mouth to speak, but then shut it, deciding to let Jenkins continue. "Let's see, where was I? Oh yes, the mole. Well, whoever he or she was, they decided they didn't like this project all that much, and called in the largest army of mercenaries I think I'd ever seen! He shut down the communications hub just before they arrived, and they slaughtered everyone here. Anyone who survived was picked off by the dinosaurs, because both our men and the mercs wound up stranded here. I was the only survivor, because I was lucky enough to find a suitable hiding place in the jungle until the gunfire stopped. It took a couple days, but eventually I came back here to find that everyone was dead or missing. I do believe the mole was killed in the crossfire as well. So, I did the only thing I could: I threw all the bodies outside to be scavenged, cleaned up the bloodstains, and settled down in here. That is, until you fellows arrived..."

Maxwell says under his breath, "Well that explains the lack of bodies or remains..." before saying loud for everyone to hear, "Wait, if you went into the jungle, how did you avoid being eaten by those dinosaurs?"

"Please, Maxwell," Jenkins said. "I was the one who created these animals, and I am the one who studied them! I had little problem surviving for several days out there. I knew every animal's territory, I knew their habits, their feeding patterns, everything!"

"Ah. Oh course," Maxwell says, believing the man slightly but also suspicious for soem reason. He knew not why he felt wary of the man, but he gave off a bizarre aura....

Persephone chuckled to herself slightly as she opened up the water bottle and took a sip from it. Even if what Jenkins was saying were true, there was no way he could know everything about the animals. There were still unknown behaviors and habits about animals that people were completely familiar with. For him to talk like he knew every little habit, every little behavior, every little fact of the Dinosaurs here... it lightened up her mood a tad bit...

The rest of the raptor pack had scattered at the first appeaance of larger carnivores, and now regrouped outside, some letting out mournful sounds, others just staring with eyes that were blank with shock. The youngsters huddled at the center of the group, unusually silent for once. Even when the pack began preening one another in an attempt to give comfort, there was a subdued air about the familiar motions.

"**** was already complicated, Jacob" David muttered in reply, lifting his Tavor again and moving along with the other mercenary, paying close attention to his environment like always. The noises were all distorted by the echoes bouncing through the hallways and corridors, and some sounds blended together. A lot of dinosaurs were in the building, no question about it. "******* peachy" David thought bitterly.

"Well, if that's every question we have for today, I suggest we turn in at the barracks for the night!" Jenkins said. "You want us to leave again?" Barnes asked incredulously. Jenkins merely snorted. "The arrival of a Tyrannosaurus in the immediate vicinity has no doubt scared off every living thing around this building. The walk to the cots is short, and the door is secure enough to protect us from any small predators that might still be around!"

Persephone ginned slightly to herself, the smile expertly hidden. She desperately wanted to get some sleep right now, and the circles around her eyes were large indicators of that. Still, if the Rex from earlier, or Sue, or both Rex's were to appear as they were heading for the barracks... well,she most certainly wouldn't be seeing the light of day...

"Oh, wait, something even more important that I forgot!" Jenkins said, getting to his feet and rubbing his hands together. "Who's hungry, eh?" At that point, Barnes' stomach growled, and he realized that he hadn't eaten since landfall. "Well, I do have some MREs with me, but if you have something better in mind..." Jenkins nodded, grinning. "Yes, yes, much better! There is a cafeteria nearby, and the food is still good! I think we had best have a midnight snack before we head off to bed, eh? Who's with me?"

Persephone was about to say no thank you when her her stomach also began to growl. Normally, she wasn't in th emood to eat when she was tired, but in this case, she could count it as an exception. "Sounds like a fair idea to me." Persephone said. She could only hope the food in the cafeteria wasn't covered in flies...
