The plasma bombardment lessened, and underground patrols began to increase dramatically, swarms of Arachnid Warriors and Tiger Bugs moving behind legions of Workers who were busily widening their premade tunnels, while Tank Bugs and Scorpion Bugs began to mobilize in the larger areas of the hive, in case all-out war became necessary...

"Wait, I have an idea!" Grievous said. "Why don't we find the Sangheili Armed Forces fleet and ask them? It's likely that they've been tracking the Covenant's movements ever since members of their own race defected." "That would be logical," the Geth replied simply.

The Tyranid creatures filed into the tunnels, Mawlocs digging ahead, while Raveners and a few Trygons dug their own paths nearby, on the lookout for any traps dug by the natives. Hormagaunts protected both the front and the back of the groups, with rending claws-armed warriors not far behind...

On the surface, another group was sent forward in an attempt to confuse or distract the arachnids. This group composed of both termagaunts and hormagaunts, as well as a single Zoanthrope to lead them...

THe Arachnids hung back in their hive this time, letting the new Tyranid group wander farther out into the field. They knew it was likely a distraction, and weren't too intent on wasting more troops, at least not at the moment. The Arachnids continued scouring the underground for signs of Tyranid incursion from below as well, while the Recon Bugs continued to track the group led by the Zoanthrope...

The Tyranids continued through the underground, Raveners eventually detecting another tunnel ahead of them. The Mawlocs moved first, bursting into the tunnel, while two Trygons and a group of Raveners did the same only a split second later, ready to clear the way for the other Tyranids...

Meanwhile, the Sith Lord was left adrift in the void of space, slowly regaining consciousness inside the small vessel. The ship in question was self sufficient...for the moment. Mainly used for transporting important individuals to and from a ship or station, the vessel would not be able to support itself forever...

The only thing thing in the new, much wider tunnel was an Arachnid Worker, which was using its spadelike forelegs to widen the tunnel walls. It spotted the Tyranids as they burst through the wall, screeched an alarm and scurried away, back down the tunnel...

The Mawlocs moved to one side of the tunnel, while the Trygons move to the other, forming a barrier around the two new tunnels connecting to the natives'. The Tyranid creatures poured of the tunnels, ready to push further into the tunnel system, Raveners and their larger allies leading the way, constantly on the lookout for secondary tunnels that could be used for an ambush.

A massive, metallic-looking Scorpion Bug scuttled around the corner, the tip of its tail already glowing blue as it charged. The plasma beam cut through the incoming Tyranids like a knife through butter, incinerating them completely. It was overkill, but apparently the Arachnids couldn't care less...

Revan woke up as he looked around. Judging from everything..he actually seemed like he was alone. He sensed the ship was still moving but there was nobody else around. The Sith stretched as he eyed his surrounds as he explored the ship. He narrowed his eyes so he really was alone. Now it's just a matter of how to get out and head back into civilization...

The Mawlocs, at the front of the horde, immediately sensed the proximity of the arachnid creature, diving back into the earth, just as a squirming mass flew over them, exploding at the corner of the tunnel in a torrent of rope-like fibers, binding the creature in place, its tail beam thrown off course, hitting the side of the tunnel. Warriors armed with barbed stranglers kept firing at the corner of the tunnel, keeping the creature from getting a clean shot, as the Mawlocs emerged on the opposite side of the scorpion, biting onto two of its legs, pulling the limbs back into the ground, threatening to tear them off...

A swarm of Arachnid Warriors, having been following the Scorpion Bug to back it up, fell on the Mawlocs, clamping their mandibles onto the Tyranid beasts and slashing them repeatedly with their forelegs...

The Mawlocs were primarily in the holes they dug, the limbs of the Scorpion creature blocking the entrance to said holes, until finally the two creatures ripped the limbs free, causing them to disappear back down their respective holes with the limbs. Warriors charged at the partially obscured Scorpion from the other side, leading a group of gaunts, which launched themselves onto the distracted and bleeding creature, hacking and biting its head, back, and the base of its tail...

With its metallic plates protecting it, the Scorpion Bug flattened its tail, giving the Warriors a chance to literally scramble over it, charging into the Gaunts and Tyranid Warriors and tearing them apart in close combat, distracting them from harming the Scorpion Bug...

While the initial gaunts were caught off guard, the others quickly lept onto their arachnid enemies, stabbing and slicing the creatures from the relative safety of their backs and sides. The warriors, armed with rending claws, proved dangerous foes indeed. One warrior smashed its claws against the side of one arachnid's head, smashing it against the tunnel wall. Another hacked off the foremost leg of an arachnid warrior, causing it to fall forward, only for the claws to smash into its upper jaw, ripping it from its body in a fountain of blood.

A Tiger Bug pushed past a dying Warrior, bringing its swordlike forelegs down into the head of the nearest Warrior, impaling its skull. Another Warrior grabbed the dead Tyranid in its mandibles and tore it away, dragging it out of the melee as even more Warriors joined the fray, tearing the smaller Gaunts off their comrades and tossing them aside like ragdolls. The furious Scorpion Bug, its tail now free, scuttled backwards down the tunnel, shaking angrily to dislodge the Tyranids and Arachnids using it as a battlefield...

As the Arachnid tried to pull away the warrior, a Mawloc lunged out of the hole once more, grabbing the creature in its jaws, pulling it and the corpse of the Tyranid warrior into the hole, disappearing from sight.

As the Scorpion Bug moved over the holes the Mawlocs made, the other Mawloc lunged out, grabbing onto the Arachnid's leg, pulling it back into the hole, preventing the creature from moving. As the gaunts and warriors fought on the now trapped scorpion, a group of deathspitter armed warriors and a group of termagaunts rounded the corner after them...

Though unable to move, the Scorpion Bug was still able to fire, and its tail beam caught the Tyranids as they rounded the corner, blowing away the frontmost troops. The Warriors and Tiger Bug took cover behind the Scorpion Bug's massive body, letting the enemy come to them while the Scorpion Bug acted as a heavy artillery unit, firing on any Tyranid that came within range.

The ranged Tyranids quickly retreated, moving back around the corner, a warrior and a number of gaunts caught in the attack. As they did, the second Mawloc emerged from the wall of the tunnel, level with the end of the tail, biting onto the back of it and pulling back into the hole, trying to tear the limb off, in the process forcing the limb to face up toward the ceiling. The Tyranid creatures still on the creature's back, rather then continue fighting with the warriors, assisted the Mawloc, warriors slashing at the base of the Scorpion's tail. The ranged Tyranids moved back into the fray now that the artillery was preoccupied, firing at the Scorpion's side...

With a powerful lurch, the Scorpion Bug yanked himself to the side, pulling the Mawloc halfway out of the tunnel wall. Reaching up, the Scorpion clamped down on the exposed Tyranid, crushing it in its grasp and tearing it from its perch, using it as a shield to protect itself from the Tyranids firing at it...

One warrior on the creature's back stabbed its rending claws into the Scorpion's face, blinding it with its own blood, while the creature's tail began to break apart at the base, the Tyranids almost completely hacking through, the occasional gaunt thrown off by a stray shot...

The Scorpion Bug, in a blind fury, swung the Mawloc into the Warrior, knocking it off its face. Warriors piled onto the base of the Scorpion's tail, tearing the attacking Tyranids off as the Scorpion fired again, now that its tail was free, plasma beam cutting through the ranged Tyranids like a knife through butter...
