"It's only a short walk from the lab," Jenkins replied simply. The scientist looked over his shoulder at Barnes, letting the Lieutenant catch up before speaking. "Hey, just, uh, curious: do you mind if I borrow a gun? I'm not perfect, but I know how to use a pistol. I'd rather not have to rely on the rabble-rousers. No offense..." Barnes rolled his eyes, pulled his M9 out of its holster, and handed it to Jenkins. "Just try to keep the safety on until you really need to use it, alright?"

eyeing the bolts holding the panel in place, Jacob drew his side arm, shooting the bolts with the barrel pressed against them, to avoid a ricocheting bullet hitting him or his comrade. the panel came loose, the man sliding it sideways out of the way of the vent, before crouching down, flicking the tactical flashlight on his handgun on as he entered the vent. "Don't worry about how we're getting out of here. A top secret military facility sitting in the middle of the ocean doesn't just wait for ships to come to it. We'll have no problem finding a way to leave. hell, for all we know, by the time the mission's assigned time is over, we'll be the only ones that make it. Especially if our dear friend Jenkins is actually planning what I think he might be planning" said the man calmly as he moved through the vents, following the map to get exactly where he wanted...

"Buddy, our pal the gov'ment left this place for dead for a few months before even considering dropping our sorry asses here. If Jenkins fucks over the others, he's gonna call in an evac for himself and report everyone else lost and that will be the end of that. There won't be a boat waiting for us if he succeeds. And even if he doesn't, if our jolly commanding officer and his rag tag band of bait die here then we're **** out of luck" David said, turning around to make sure that nothing had been sneaking up on them. Afterwards, he hauled himself into the vent, shifting his way through it after his partner.

"And you call yourself a Mercenary. Hasn't the lifestyle taught you anything about self preservation? Or are you new to the business?" asked Jacob, seemingly irritated by the man's complaints, as he waved his walkie talkie in front of the man. "We have these. If anyone goes anywhere, there'll be a shitload of radio chatter. We'll know about it"...

Jenkins stepped ahead of the group after holstering the pistol in his lab coat, saying, "Alright, ladies and gentlemen, just another hallway or two before we--" he paused, as did Barnes, Dodgson, and just about everyone else who heard the noise: an owl-like hooting, echoing from down the corridor. Dodgson immediately backed up, and Barnes' rifle snapped up to his shoulder, but Jenkins held up his hands. "Wait, wait, I think it's just Clarence!" Barnes arched a brow, momentarily confused, before he remembered the surreal conversation from earlier, when they had first made it to the research facility. Clarence was the name of Jekins' "pet" Dilophosaurus. The name sounded familiar, and as he lowered his weapon, he finally got a good look at the creature. Clarence slowly walked around the corner farther ahead, snuffling along the ground like a dog, the remains of a Compsognathus in his hooked jaws. Raising his head, the Dilophosaurus hooted again, cocking its head curiously. Jenkins approached the Dilo slowly and calmly, saying, "Ah, Clarence, how good to see you again! I was afraid those neanderthals had blown you away without a second thought!" The Dilophosaurus merely chittered in response, gulping down the rest of his meal, but acted surprisingly non-aggressive. Barnes shook his head and focused on the task at hand. "Alright, as nice as this happy little reunion is, we've got work to do, Doctor. Get rid of your pet lizard so we can get out of here, alright?" Jenkins frowned, but he didn't argue. "Alright, alright. Everyone follow me. Don't act aggressive towards Clarence, or you'll provoke him. Just ignore him as you walk around him, like so." Jenkins demonstrated by walking casually around the 20-foot-long carnivore, the dinosaur merely staring at Jenkins as he walked past. Barnes moved forward next, weapon lowered, but at the ready, in case the animal decided to attack regardless. However, just like with Jenkins, the Dilophosaurus ignored Barnes, other than giving him a cautious sniff. Dodgson shook his head and skittered around Clarence rather quickly, making the Dilophosaurus raise its head in surprise. Jenkins hissed, "I said calmly, Lewis! Jesus, you'd think you'd never seen a Dilophosaurus before!" Clarnece, however, did not attack, merely stepping closer to the corridor wall, away from the humans, scratching his S-shaped neck with a foreclaw. "Well, excuse me for not enjoying being right next to a voracious carnivore bred to be used as a soldier!" Barnes sighed, and pulled the two angry men away from each other. "Shut it, both of you. Everyone else, come on. And whatever you do, don't piss off the lizard, got it?" Jenkins and Dodgson glared and fumed, but said nothing...

Persephone, following Barne's orders, move around the Dilophsaurus, not an ounce of fear being shown. Yes, it was rather surprising to run into a Dilophosaurs, but seeing how... tame it was, any fears she had of it were banished. Seems to me like this Dilo's more tame than some of my old West Point pals... Persephne chucled to herself as she moved after Barnes. Though it was a pity she couldn't get some of that Compy's remains to take back...

Hiero Nerviously eyed the creature, and perhaps due to a slit headache or maybe fever dark images of monsters from his childhood nightmares flashed in his mind. Despite this Hiero carefully moved around the large carnivore though without making too much of a fuss. "Animals will never match a well trained human as a Soldier," He quietly remarked, "But this one looks quite fersome in its own right."

Clarence merely yawned in response to the humans, his toothy jaws causing Barnes to tense up. He noticed that the folded patches of red scales on the Dilo's throat rippled in response to the widening mouth. "Motherf**ker has a frill, doesn't he?" Jenkins smiled. "Very astute, Lieutenant! Yes, we genetically modified the Dilophosaurus to be very similar to the variety seen in everyone's favorite dinosaur resurrection film..." Barnes didn't need to be reminded. Everybody he knew as a kid had watched Jurassic Park (or at least heard of it), and this new revelation didn't please him. "They can spit venom, can't they?" Jenkins nodded and was about to speak, but Dodgson cut him off. "Yes, we made them into living artillery units. They instinctively aim for the eyes when hunting, which causes permanent blindness. What better way to incapacitate the enemy then to literally blind their infantry?" Jenkins frowned. "...AND it's a behavioral achievement that amazes me. There was a certain degree of risk to modifying one of the species so dramatically, but the Dilos adapted shockingly well." Barnes nodded absently. "Yes, yes, very interesting. Can we go before he decides to use it on us? Come on, people..." Jenkins glowered, but said nothing...

Hearing this Hiero quickly looked back over his shoulder in wonder at how much they were tampered with and how well their venom worked. Then he remembered something, "Hey I have several pairs of visors that may help protect against that, anyone want one?" He said while shifting his backpack.

"I'll definitely take a pair," Jack said as he moved carefully past the Dilophosaurus. Barnes shook his head. "I've got a pair of sunglasses. I can just use those if one of Clarence's less friendly buddies shows up later. Let's keep moving. We're almost out of here." As the group moved on past Clarence, who continued in the direction he had been walking in the first place, Jenkins piped up. "Ooh, who wants to learn more about the dinosaurs? I know some of you would be interested, eh?" Dodgson rolled his eyes. He would've told Jenkins to shut up, but by this point, but keeping secrets about what they might run into on the island seemed like a very bad idea...

"I think I might also take a pair." Persephone said, before she turned to face Jenkins. "Um, by chance, are there any dinosaurs that might live in the river?" She asked, the thought from earlier still nagging away at her. She wanted to know, just to be on the safe side. After all, the only stupid questions, atleast to her, were unasked ones...

"Only one species on the island lives in the river, and it's not a dinosaur," Jenkins explained as they continued walking. "We cloned a single Deinosuchus, a very large crocodilian from the Cretaceous period for those who are unfamiliar. However, it has been observed in repeated behavioral tests that the Deinosuchus does not attack the cargo boats. They're too big, and the Deinosuchus has learned over time that the boats are no threat to its territory. As long as we stick to the main waterway, we won't have any problems. Just don't stick your head over the edge, okay? That's just asking for a feeding response..."

Maxwell says, "I'll take a visor, please." Upon hearing about the Deinosuchus, however, Max had his doubts about how safe they are.... something that huge could probably capsize the boat if it felt the need to.

as they continued through the ducts, they finally reached where Jacob had been headed. bringing the butt of his assault rifle to bare on a vent, he slammed it down once, twice, the third saw the vent cover falling off. "Time to see what the good doctor was hiding behind those doors" said Jacob as he flipped onto his back, bending his upper torso down through the vent aiming down and around with his assault rifle's night vision scope, scanning for anything of note...he had seen a large number of dinosaurs on the island so far. but he had yet to find one small enough to fit in the corridors, yet large enough to completely consume the human occupants. that meant that they must've been taken somewhere. If it had been the Dinosaurs, he'd've found at least one or two corpses lying around by now....his questions, and his theory, would soon be answered and verified...

It didn't take long for David to come to the same conclusion as Jacob, though he saw a much darker situation for the once colleagues of Jenkins. Lab C was well secured and rightfully so, for it was the ground floor for the island's operations. Naturally, it would be the ideal place to stow the rest of the survivors of the catastrophe, letting them die in the room where they did their work. How ironic it was, their secrets were locked away in the very product of their minds. They would have been deprived of food and water and would have suffered agonizing deaths as their bodies wasted away. Some might have went insane and turned cannibal then died in the ensuing months anyway. If Jenkins was cable of such an act, it would mean he practically tortured his former scientists until they met their demise just so that he would have power when he was eventually rescued...

For the time being, David said nothing, simply observing. "I hope I'm dead wrong about this...for his sake" He thought, disgusted at the notion that anyone would abandon former friends and workmates like that...

Lab C was, to put it simply, completely wrecked. It was more than just collateral damage from whatever went on here. It looked like someone had taken a sledgehammer and literally smashed every piece of equipment by hand, and no doubt had deleted any relevant data off the lab's computers' hard drives before he did so as well. Computer monitors, lab equipment, towering cylinders of now-shattered glass, and even heavily-dented cages littered the lab's floor and counters. There were no bodies, but there was the rather unpleasant scent of Compsognathus droppings. Clearly, the place hadn't been used in a long, long time, as compared to the other labs, which, while abandoned and dusty, seemed to be relatively intact and well-traveled (at least by the dinosaurs). Along the left wall was what appeared to be a one-way window, next to a single door. The entryway was only made out of polished wood, unlike the more secure steel doors in other areas of the facility, but the small ID card slot device next to it suggested that the door itself was locked. A plaque situated beneath a small window of frosted glass on the door read: DOCTOR ANDREW JENKINS, Ph.D. Jenkins' old office, and it seemed strangely untouched, at least from the outside...

After passing out the visors Hiero put one on himself, as they contiued Hiero started feeling heat flashes and sudden Nausia and as they continued it got worse and if one watched carefully it became noticable. Then he suddenly felt like someone had kicked him in the chest and collapsed his lungs. Hiero almost doubled over but caught himself though now it was quite obvious something was wrong when he started weezing into his hand and blood flowed out of his mouth.

Hiero suddenly had everyone's attention at once. Barnes leaned over the man, shouting, "Hey, hey what's wrong?! Sit down against the wall and breathe, soldier! You're not dying on me because of a d*mn asthma attack!" In truth, he had no idea if that was the problem, but he wasn't exactly a medical officer. Just one more thing to add to the list of "sh*t we needed in hindsight"... he thought...
