The director has said the movie takes place 22 years after the events of the first.

Oh, huh. No returning characters though, right?

Wayne Knight has expressed interest in reprising his role as Nedry. That, however, was expressed before the movie got the name it now has.

I'm concerned about that particular production choice. They've severed one of the pivotal connecting points between the oldschool fans and the new generation that this movie will likely target. Sure, it's apparently set back on Nublar, but is that enough?

Also, pity this means Hammond is dead. Loved that old fart to bits in the movies [I know he was much more of an ******* in the books, but eh. I like the childhood memory of him being this old lovable grandfather type who wanted to make the world happy (even if he planned to get rich in the process :P) by showing them animals that had been extinct for 66 million years].

Pity we don't get to see what happened to the kids. That'd be an angle to explore. Sure, after this, Grant, Malcolm and Sattler wouldn't touch Las Cinco Muertes with a Satellite camera, let alone an 8 foot pole. But the kids? I dunno. There could be some interesting means to explore their side of the story.

Agreed. He even had a couple mildly amusing moments in the movies, like when he goes 'we'll have landed by the time you get it right', referring to the seatbelts.
I also feel like he had a bit more of an arc in the movies.

It's already silly that anything compelled Grant to revisit one of the islands (never mind the numerous other plotholes associated with that).
Also, does anyone else find it ridiculous that Malcolm was the only one that broke the disclosure agreement in The Lost World? Like, Dr. Grant didn't say a word? Rather out of character.

On that note, it'd also have been nice to see some Grant/Malcolm interaction after the events of Nublar.

Hammond wouldn't have been in the movie anyway, unfortunately. My understanding is Richard Attenborough is retired.

Anyhow, what's the significance of going back 22 years later? Even with the dinosaurs reproducing, surely there wouldn't be enough of them to keep a steady, balanced population going? Judging from the books and the glimpse of the nests in the movies, raptors in particular bred like rabbits.

As far as I could infer, it's just to have the events of Jurassic Park resonate in a modern time frame. What if inGen and everything else was around today after the infamy of the Isla Nublar/ San Diego incidents. Maybe we'll find out where those Pteranodon went at the end of JP3.

All I know for sure is this; according to the alignment of these dates, the aftermath of Jurassic Park was still resonating up to when Marty McFly went to 2015 and got power laced shoes and a hoverboard. Continuing along this train of thought, further on in the future humanity is teetering on the brink after an outbreak of biological warfare between the major factions of the period. This, along with drastic climactic upheaval, renders much of the Earth's population centers we know today barren and derelict. The dinosaurs live their lives ala ISS (except not) and are brought over to an abandoned New York, ala the NYC plot (except not), after which they come in contact with one of the remaining forces of humanity: the GDF.

Now here it's tricky, as the story either continues as normal or branches off into its own alternate continuity. By that I mean, either the apocalypse of giant monsters happens with or without the dinosaurs. If the dinosaurs are present, it explains the sudden boom of the more prehistoric-looking behemoths that appear.

In summary,

Jurassic Park -> Back to the Future -> ISS -> (maybe) GEW

How's that for convoluted headcanon, TT.

Very convoluted indeed... I always did like Jurassic Park, but never cared for Back to the Future.

This place... it brings back memories... some good, most of them bad noob moments I had. If I could redo a lot of the RPG stuff I had, I would be oh so glad to. But now, I have my own universe I am trying to work on and improve... I may start RPing here again soon, but I have to think about that. Maybe get Germania back into gear, clean up house, and get things rolling.

After reading a bit of TLW:JP trivia, I rewatched the scene where the T-rex is walking through the neighborhood and saw that a piece of trivia was correct when it stated that the Rex makes a dribbling motion with on arm as it walks past a basket ball hoop.

I'd storm Universal myself if they let that fly.

Word has it it's confirmed B.D.Wong will be coming back, so that's interesting.
