Been watching ALOT of dinosaur documentaries lately (WWD, Dinosaur Planet, Chased by Dinosaurs, When Dinosaur Roamed America, etc...)

Watching those gave me an idea for ISS, one that can have as many people's large carnivores joining in as they want... and there will be no complaints, either! (I hope...)

In other words, an Argentinosaurus hunt! This is a once-a-year hunting opportunity that occurs when the herd is travelling from their feeding grounds on the dry side of the island (The south side) to the breeding lands in the tropical side of the island (Northern side). In order to take down even a 6 year old Argentinosaurus,(Which would be about 60-70 feet long and weigh up to 40-50 tonnes, going by how Walking with Dinosaurs showed Sauropod growth), predators would have to work together... Such a hunt would not only look (And sound) amazing, but also it would be a great opportunity for people's large therapod characters to work together... a little something out of the norm...

Sounds cool, but I doubt the majority of the theropods people are playing as would be fast enough (or strong enough for that matter) to catch a Argentinosaurus solo, and realistically, the theropods would kill each other upon slaying one of them to try and get a peice.

I might join in, though, jsut for the hell of it.

Hence, everyone has to join forces in order to bring down an Argentinosaurus...

And as for the "How to get food without slaughtering each other" thing... give me a moment or two to think about that...

But it will start shortly after a new day starts in ISS... Belive me.

Only pack animals would even attempt such a thing. If you try to get Trexes to work with gigas you're just going to get a bloodbath. But then again ISS dinosaurs partner together for no particular reason.

Though if you have your Sucho join in on the hunt, Gira, I will punch you in the kidney.

Actually, I wasn't intending on having Monozu taking part in the hunt... Instead...

well, I'll leave what he'll be doing as a surprise for later...

F*ck, forgot about that.
Also, it's not all that far fetched for some theropods, to my knowledge. It's been theorized that Allosaurs worked in packs to bring down sauropods.

I think he means, EE, that different species might not work well together.

Hell, the same species might not work together well. Trexes are speculated to have family packs at most. But if you try to get a pack of unrelated individuals together, they'd most likely kill each other.

Food is a wonderful motivator to get creatures to work together... If you can't work together, you ain't getting the massive smorgasboard that can last for weeks...

Yes, that's true, but if they are going to end up killing each other, or hurting each other at the realistic minimum, it wouldn't be worth the trouble to kill the damend thing in the first place....

But that doesn't seem to apply in ISS anyway I think. From what I've seen, even different species talk and interact all the time; raptors are friends with rexes in it ffs. :P

Yeah. ISS in and of itself isn't exactly realistic ( I mean, raptors jeaping from tree limb to tree limb like ninjas? WTF?!)

Having several carnivores putting aside their diffrences to hunt down a common prey together isn't THAT big of a streach... especially if there's more than enough meat on the kill for everyone to get some...

Considering Sorna is a primordial jungle, I'd say leaping from tree to tree isn't too farfetched, considering the size of the trees in question.

And, EE, I already said that in my original post:

But then again ISS dinosaurs partner together for no particular reason.

... Your missing the point. RAPTORS WERE HUNTERS ON SOLID GROUND, NOT IN THE TREES! I highly doubt that real life dromaeosaurs would have leapt from tree branch to tree branch, but rather, would have perfered to keep their feet on solid ground...

When you find a fossil of a 50+ pound raptor that had evidence of an arboreal life style, call me...

Who said they lived in trees? I didn't. Doesn't mean they didn't traverse them, possibly in adolescence.

They ARE closely related to birds, you know...

I understand that... it just amuses me of thinking of raptors trying to climb up a tree...

The young ones, maybe... but a fully grown 80+ pound Dromaeosaur... good luck getting THAT off the ground and into the trees... (Now I'm laughing as I imagine a THerizinosaurus trying to get up into a tree via WAIR... oh my gosh...)

Anyways... Let's see what KP has to say on the idea...
