I mean small as in that there isn't much room between the top of the Xbox and the ceiling of the space.

Ah..... it IS possible that the heat from the ceiling is affecting your Xbox, because heat gathers at the top. You might need to move your 360 to a lower level so that it doesn't constantly overheat.

I'll let it cool off for a few days and when I play it again, only do so for an hour before turning it off.

Sounds good. That should work, just make sure that if you DO play for a long time that you let it rest...........

I've never had problems with overheating with my 360...and its usually in a small space, or surrounded by the other consoles.

And I do play it for looooong periods of times sometimes :P

Well, then IK's just got my fanily's kind of bad luck: if something bad happens, the whole thing slides down the hill. :P

It's been in the space since I set it up and the day before, it wasn't having any problems.

How do you know it was overheating? Was there an onscreen message, or did it crash randomly, etc etc?

TT:I know because when I turned it on this morning and played it for awhile, I began to make a noise. I touched the back and it felt hot.

Hmm...my 360 makes a lot of noises, so I dunno. Was the noise really loud? If so, then ya, I'd say there's a problem.

The noise was loud. It kind of sounded like a howling wind.

well. my advice is turn it off. leave it to rest, continue later. if it happens again, it might be a good idea to have it taken for cleaning. dust in the intake and on the equipment can make it more vulnerable to overheating. my bro's PS3 has a reverse venting system to blow out the dust automatically from time to time. 360s need to be taken for manual cleaning, i think. it'd also be a good time to have it checked generally. routine maintenence is the best way to avoid a costly repair job. better to catch a piece mildly damaged than to leave it till it's destroyed....costs less...

@IK: I'd also ask around on microsoft websites.

@TT: Apparently all 360s are slightly different then, and some people just get lucky. More proof is that my old 360 went red ring, and when I had it exchanged, the new one I received kept rattling and making funny whirring noises...

I thought that the symbol that one's 0bo had overheated was the Red Ring of Death...oh well!

meh. my friend's 360 seemingly goes Red Ring every 2-6 months. but all we do is turn it off and leave it for 1-24 hours, and it's operating fine afterwards....for another 2-6 months.... :P so yeah, we don't put much weight in the Red Ring myth....or at least...the severity of whatever happens to you guys....maybe we just get the better built 360s and you get the crappy ones :P

Exactly, that's what I'm saying. From the looks of it, some people just get lucky.

But it's certainly not a myth. There are different red ring's you can get as well (different error messages will come up on screen)...

During lunch at school today, I rewatched the Emperor's New Groove. It brings back so many good memories.
