"Yeah, your probally right, atleast that spitting cobra didn't blind our sight, but, I do hope this wound doesn't become infected," she had remarked with a low growl, then she laid her head on the nice, comforting dirt, and slowly passed out. She hoped she could hunt for something with the threesome to share in the morning though, not wanting to be attacked at the tree while she was alone, resting, and waiting for Nightbane's arrival, with the fresh kill. She also started rubbing against Nightbane's, soft, cozy fur, in her sleep.

Nightbane watched as the lioness fell asleep, giving a glance to Redtail so he knew where the jackal was, before laying down himself, resting his eyes. he wouldn't let himself fall asleep completely....there was no guarantee the lions would win the conflict....if they ended up taking the same path out that he did, he would likely be facing three very angry, injured lions....unless they were seriously crippled, that was still bad news for him...

several hours later, the sun rose, climbing up to it's peak, the white disc casting it's searing rays down on the ground below, bathing anything not in the shade of a tree or overhanging rock, in sunlight. Nightbane yawned as he woke, fangs glinting in the sunlight for a moment as they were exposed...

Red Claw had awoke in the morning next to Nightbane, baring her teeth at the dead snake that had attacked her the night before, then stretched out her legs, trying not to put too much pressure on her injured leg, and yawned. Once she had finished stretching, she tried putting some weight on her leg, to see if she could atleast hunt something bigger than a meerkat. She was feeling sore in her leg, but still stayed nearby Nightbane so she knew she was safe from predators. "I feel terrible from last night, but I think i got enough strength and energy for a good hunt," Red Claw had growled, commenting on her injury, waiting to see if Nightbane would say something about that...

Redtail stretched as he woke up, still lying on his back, not too intent on getting up just yet...

"I can manage alone. stick around here for a bit. heard those Zebra you were chasing yesterday not long ago. must've turned this way when the lions started fighting. i'm sure i can manage to bring in a decent sized one" growled Nightbane as he rose to his feet, flexing his jaws and claws, sinking them into the earth, before turning towards the rough direction the Zebra went, seeming the tell tail black and white stripes not too far away. the river snaked around the area, being directly ahead of them. undoubtedly the reason they were there. they were thirsty. it also gave him a perfect opportunity to pin one of them...provided the crocodiles didn't get to it first. as he began to walk, he looked over his shoulder. "You can come if you like...act as a distraction, try to scare them back towards me if they scatter...or you can stick around....enjoy pestering that jackal...nibble on it if you're really hungry" he growled with a chuckle...

Red Claw had decided to go with Nightbane to scatter the zebra herd from the river. As she slowly crept through the bushes and grass, she suddenly leapt from her cover, and roared at the zebras, causing them to flee in terror and scatter around. She growled and stared at some of the bushes to signal Nightbane to attack the zebra herd.

"Oh you're so funny..." Redtail mumbled, still not ready to get up, though Red Claw's roar startled him and made him leap to his paws...

Nightbane struck from the side, a distance from Redclaw, making use of the panic. initially he had intended to force them towards the river bank, and have Redclaw scare them at one side when they tried running in her direction, but this would still work. moving in an arc around the frightened Zebras, Nightbane kept low, keeping himself out of sight, bolting at the last moment and slamming side on into a sub adult zebra, knocking it to the ground with hi sheer size, the panicked creatures calls falling on deaf ears as it's herd scattered from the scene, the Zebra bucking and kicking awkwardly in an attempt to get free. Nightbane however, had his claws anchored in it's flank, and his jaws on it's neck, and it wasn't long before the fallen herbivore exhausted itself enough for the Lion to take a firmer grip of it's throat, locking his jaws shut around the windpipe, suffocating it...

Red Claw came limping towards the kill, and started to help Nightbane drag it over to the tree. Soon, she was relaxing in the shade of the thick tree, eating her part of the kill. Once she became full, she went back to the tree to rest for a while, and was anxious for her wound to heal faster.

as Nightbane tore into the kill, he noted Redclaw's limp. the lion tore into the kill, ripping into the flesh and tearing large strips of it, gulping down the portions with relative ease. before long, the hindquarters and flanks were reduced to bone. ripping into the kill's flank, he pulled out a few of the internal organs. the lion made sure to take the liver in particular, carrying it over to the tree and ripping it in half, leaving one half near the lioness. "One of the best parts. i'm surprised you don't know that" he growled as he eyed the lioness, as he lay on his side, his half caught between the two massive paws, the lion ripping into it contentedly. there was still some of the kill left for a second meal. he had made sure to take down something that would feed them for a couple of days at least...he didn't want to have to hunt too frequently while Red Claw was injured. Redtail wasn't much of a help either way. a deterrant to small pests, sure. but beyond that he was your typical scavenger. waiting around for the predators to get their fill and then diving in on the scraps. little more than a parasite. Redclaw on the other hand was both a help in a hunt, as well as a helpful deterrant to other large predators. big or not, one lion alone was never as much of a threat as two. in addition, Redclaw represented a potential future for him. something a jackal obviously couldn't...

Redtail got up and stretched, but waited for the two lions to move away from the kill. He hated to admit it, but he knew his place, and he wasn't about to get himself killed by getting between a hungry pair of pions and their recently-killed prey. As soon as Nightbane moved back to Reclaw, however, the jackal scampered over to the zebra carcass and tore into the best parts he could find. As a scavenger, he never really tasted anything more than the scraps he usually found on a carcass...

Red Claw started to take small chunks of meat out of her half of liver. Suddenly, she noticed a desperate Redtail rush for the zebra carcass, and she started growling at him. He might have saved her, but he wasn't offered food, but, she stopped growling at let him start eating. She was only gonna stop him if he started eating too much. Red looked at Nightbane for a brief moment, and finally grunted, "Night, you know, we could be the only two of our kind left."

"I've noticed" growled Nightbane as he paused his eating for a few moments. "The last of our breed i've seen before today was my family before i was forced out...and that was years ago" he added as he continued his meal. he could guess where this was going. the lioness seemed hasty by his standards, but considering thier little situation he wasn't too surprised...she WAS the first barbary he had seen in years. that much was obvious. likely the case was the same for her...

Red Claw knew what the situation was here, and also didn't know any other barbary lions than her dead family for years. She had stared at Nightbane for a shortly lived moment as he did the same, then she looked at the dead herbivore. Red started to growl at the seemingly full jackal, telling him to back off from the corpse. Then, after thinking about how her and Nightbane's species were going extinct, finally decided to relax and eat her part of the now rotting liver.

when Nightbane finished his meal he yawned. "Care to tell me a bit about your family?" he growled, uncertainty in his tone for the first time since he met the lioness. a lost family was a sensitive matter...but he wanted to learn what he could about the lioness before he made any decision...

She hadn't been in any mood to talk for a while, but she did anyways. "Well, you see, it all started when my grandfather, Tigerus, was murdered by a rival pride, before i could even see the world and all it's wonders. Seven days later, after i could see, i witnessed my father get killed at the hands of the alpha of that trecherous pride, then, the same happened to the alpha of our pride, one of my father's friend's, who protected me and what was left of my family. Soon, the rest of our pride was getting hunted down by the rival pride, only me, two of my sisters, my only brother, and my mother, escaped, along with a male of the pride. Once we found a new place to stay, a large African Elephant crushed one of my sisters, and after two months, our mother was killed, along with the male, so only three of us were left. You should know the rest about my brother, but, i think my sister is still alive, she got lost in the thick grass, but didn't return," Red Claw explained with multiple growls, saddened grunts, and some moarnful moans and groans.

Nightbane cringed at the story. it made his life seem pleasant. "I'm sorry you had to be put through that" he growled lowly, not knowing what else he could do to comfort the female...

Redtail sat down and licked his chops after finishing his meal. he hadn't had that much meat in a long time. Knowing better than to interrupt the lions, he stayed near the carcass. Maybe he could see if other scavengers would try and steal the kill...

Red Claw was starting to sob, because she had to mention how her WHOLE family had died, and was putting her face under her paws. She was saddened deeply about it, but rubbed up against Nightbane to comfort herself. she was still shedding tears, but was starting to feel better, and started to calm herself down.

She went to rest under the long, thick branches of the tree, even though she wasn't tired at all. She just wanted to be alone for a while.

Nightbane eyed the lioness for a short while, somewhat bewildered as to what had just happened. was she aiming for attention, or asking him not to give her any? did she want him around or did she not? in the end he wrote it off as a stupid move on his part, asking about her family, of all things. getting up, the Lion walked over to the river, wanting to wash down the blood in his throat, as well as give himself some time to think over the current situation...
