Night began to growl as the bear approached. The fur on her shoulders was standing on end, making her look bigger than she was, but she knew the threat would mean little to a bear. "Lusa! Run!" the wolf snapped over her shoulder. The pup bolted for the tunnel, knowing it led outside. It was big enough that Night could follow, and she knew the adult would be coming soon. Meanwhile Night let out a more threatening growl. "Stay back!" she snapped. She couldn't fight the bear, but she could buy Lusa at least a little time by blocking off the entrance to the cave for as long as she could.

Uzuri followed close behind, pricking her ears.

Nguvu reached the hill after a few minutes at a trot, standing at the top of it. grassland spread for as far as the eye could see. but a particularly high spot in the distance caught his attention. narrowing his eyes, he saw movement. it was difficult. the figures were almost the same colour as the grass itself. at that distance, the shapes were too large to be jackals, hyenas or any other creature he could think of. they were definately lions. or more specifically, lionesses. the pride. "There they are" he growled, smiling as he moved forward. he guessed he'd smell the territorial borders any moment. as he thought it, the scent struck him. however....there was something off. this wasn't the scent of a male. it was a female. more specifically....it was the scent of his mother. "Strange....why would a male have one of the lionesses do the territorial marking and patrols?" he growled, somewhat confused...

the bear let himself drop onto all fours again, letting out a booming roar at the wolf. "I will go where i like, wolf" rumbled the bear, before moving forwards with a lunge, swinging a massive clawed paw towards the wolf...

Amani kept close behind, starting to jog as the trio headed for the hill. "So, does your old pride live near this hill or something?" rumbled Amani, still close behind. She stopped at the top of the hill as the trio reached it, noticing the scent of a lioness nearby them.

Meanwhile, just a few minutes before the present, Sharp Claw was patroling his small ditch near a large tree in the dense jungle, looking for some food, as he hadn't eaten for a few days. The wolf's ears suddenly shot up as he heard another wolf nearby, howling a few hundred meters away. "Is there another wolf living here or something?" Sharp Claw asked himself with a bark, starting to trot in the direction the growl had come from.

Night jumped back, hoping she'd judged the distance right. The tips of the bear's claws nicked her shoulder. Pain lanced through her and blood welled up, staining her white fur, which was what she'd hoped for. Whenever Nightbane and his companions got back they'd smell the blood, and hopefully piece together what had happened. She slipped into the tunnel, letting out a bark to encourage Lusa on if she wasn't already out, and hurried to get to the exit.

"So that's your family," Uzuri growled, sniffing the territory marker, just as confused as Nguvu as to why the borders had been marked by a lioness.

Sharp continued heading towards the area where he had heared the howl, only to find a seemingly empty cave and a cliff nearby. "Must've been my imagination. I'm still going to investigate," the wolf silently rumbled to himself, walking towards the cave...

"Who's idea was it to have a lioness mark a territory?" grunted Amani, glancing over to Nguvu and Uzuri, just as confused as the two. Amani continued with a growl, "Maybe there aren't any males here in the first place..."

"Stop! Can't you see the bear?! Run you idiot!" Night snarled from her perch on a high ledge, just outside a large crack in the cliff face. "This way!" the white female barked, leaping from ledge to ledge after the black blur that was Lusa.

the bear snarled irritably, moving towards where the wolf went, reaching into the hole but barely missing Night's tail. the bear turned around, snarling "your lion is not here". "He musta' left. come on, i think i've found his trail the scent's fresher here" growled Jino outside the cave, Kuruk and Kubwa following after the slim lion, Kubwa moving forward to his brother's side, silently thanking his luck that Nguvu wasn't there. that would've been a bad place to have to fight the bear....

Sharp Claw suddenly followed close behind the female and her pup, not knowing what else to do at the moment. "I didn't see him yet! I wasn't even near the entrance!" the male growled, keeping a distance away from the female. "Maybe I should stay with her for a while," Sharp thought to himself, not looking back behind him for a second as he lept onto a large boulder.

"Then you should've been able to smell him," Night growled irritably. "Is there not one bit of common sense in you?" With an aggravated sigh, she bounded after Lusa, both females heading for the top of the cliff.

"I felt like looking first, cause this place seemed abandoned," rumbled Sharp, still close behind the female and her pup. "I know I could trust them," the wolf thought, charging to the top of the cliff. "If that bear couldn't smell me nearby, he must be as much of a idiot as I am then," Sharp growled with a smirk, panting as he sprinted for the top.

"My father taught us how to choose good territories, and told us that having hills in them can be an advantage if you know how to use them, acting as scouting posts in the territory. Knowing my mother she'd insist on the pride following those lessons even with a new leader, so it was just a matter of keeping an eye out for various things my father told us to keep in mind......what i find strange is that my mother's scent is on the territorial border rather than a male's" explained Nguvu as he rushed towards the lionesses, one of which noticed them. like a single body, the entire group, roughly 7 lionesses, all turned towards them, fangs bared, which caused Nguvu to slow to a walk. the pride began to walk towards them, Nguvu stopping. "o....kay. i don't remember this ever being in our pride's habits towards intruders" he growled lowly...

the bear and lions moved around the cave for a few moments, before pinpointing the freshest scent belonging to Nguvu, the trio heading off away from the cave, the bear stopping momentarily to lick the blood off his claws, a low snarl coming from it. once it was done with the lions....it'd come back here and hunt that wolf down...

"Hills tend to be a good advantage, but a bird on your side tends to be even better," rumbled Amani as she stayed close behind Nguvu and her sister. "Looks like your pride's not in a good mood today," the lioness growled with a small smirk on her face, looking at the seven lionesses ahead of them.

As soon as Lusa reached the top, she looked back toward their home and let out a whimper. "We can't go back, can we?" she asked, snuggling into Night's flank. Night said nothing, looking in the same direction as the pup. Looks like it'll be time to go cave hunting again, she thought, turning away to lick her wound.

Uzuri eyes the lionesses warily, not sure whether to expect an attack or not.

"I could come along. You know, guard you two or something," growled Sharp Claw, still panting from the rush. "Maybe, I could stay with you two for a while? You'd need the extra help, you know," the male continued with a rumble, looking at the two females, waiting for a response...

Night turned to eye the stranger. She didn't even know his name - had barely known him for a few minutes - and he was offering to help her with guarding her home? Is he desperate for a pack or something? she wondered. He did look a bit like he hadn't eaten in a few days...in the end, she growled, "I'll think about it, stranger." She resumed licking the cuts on her shoulder.

"Ok, I'll just rest for a few minutes while you think about it," rumbled Sharp Claw, laying down to rest. He looked over to the pup, who had seemed saddened that she had to leave the cave along with her mother. As he looked back down to where the cave was, he noticed the bear, along with two lions, walking out of the entrance.

Night was tempted to throw the male an incredulous glance. But she controlled the urge and finished tending to her wounds. After which she set to comforting the distraught cub. "We'll find a new den, a better one," she promised. "One that that bear won't be able to get to." I hope, she tacked on mentally. Lusa nuzzled Night's side, feeling the adult's comforting licks and nuzzles start to take their effect. "Will our friends know where to find us?" she whispered. "When they come back, I will find them first," Night promised.

"And what about me?" Sharp Claw rumbled, glancing over towards the two females. "I hope they allow me to join them," Sharp thought to himself, a little worried abot having to be alone for the rest of his life if they had denied having him with them.

"What about you?" Night growled, her upper lip curling. This guy was really starting to get on her nerves. He thought too highly of himself and had yet to tell her just who he was, and he hoped to be allowed to stay with her?

As the lionesses approached, one in particular stepped forward. "What do you want, tresspasser?" she snarled, eying the lion. Nguvu stared, dumbfounded. "...Sitiri?" he growled. the lioness' eyes widened. "How do you know me?" she growled. "He's your brother, Sitiri" growled the voice of an older lioness behind her, walking up to her side. "Shani...what's going on? I caught mother's scent on the borders, but no male" he growled. "We have no male. After what Maovu did to us, we've refused to allow anyone else to lead us. Maiara is our leader" responded Shani. Nguvu's heart sank when he heard Shani speak of his brother. "What did Maovu do?" he growled. "I'll let mother tell you. she'll want to see you anyway" responded Shani as she turned her back on the lion. the other lionesses visible calmed, though some were still nervous at Nguvu's presence. "Uzuri, Amani.....those were my sisters, Sitiri and Shani" he growled lowly as he began to walk on, the rest of the lionesses surrounding them, escorting them, Shani and Sitiri leading at the front...
