Uzuri stretched out alongside Nguvu, resting her chin on his neck. A content purr rumbled in her throat and chest. The last time she'd slept beside someone like this had to have been before Manderius destroyed her pride...pushing thoughts of him out of her mind so she could enjoy the moment, she relaxed and found herself dozing off.

Nguvu rested his paw on Uzuri's flank, enjoying the moment of intimacy, letting himself drift to sleep in the early afternoon sun...

several hours later, a loud snarl woke Nguvu, his eyes opening to see a slim figure bolting off. "Jino's escaping!" roared Shani, Maiara rising to her feet, Kubwa suddenly slamming into his brother to stop him, though only momentarily delaying the slim lion, who scrambled to his feet and bolted once more, despite Kubwa's attempts to stop him. "Sitiri, go after him" growled Maiara, the lioness bolting without another word, shooting after the lion with speed almost comparable to Jino's, the two lions tearing off into the distance as Nguvu rose to his feet. Kubwa lowered his head apologetically. "I'm sorry...i couldn't stop him..." he growled to Maiara. "You tried" she responded simply, before glancing at the others. "Shareeka, Muneera, Sari, go after them. make sure Sitiri's gets back safely" she growled, the three lionesses nodding before rushing after the two...

Uzuri's head shot up, the white lioness woken by the commotion. "Did I hear right? He got away?" she growled, getting up quickly.

"Unfortunately" growled Maiara somewhat irritably. "Hopefully Sitiri will catch him....i just hope she's strong enough to fight him" she added.

It wasn't long before the two lions tore into the jungle, ripping through the undergrowth, Jino in a mad dash to reach Maovu. as the lion leapt over a log, Sitiri closed in. she was smaller and sleeker than her brother, meaning that she wasn't slowed down as much by the undergrowth. just as she leapt over the log, she was knocked out of the air by something large, Sitiri tumbling away, tangled with whatever hit her, the two stopping against a large rock. Sitiri fought the attacker off, kicking it in the gut and launching it off her, getting up to see it was a tiger. the big cat snarled angrily at Sitiri, the female looking past the tiger at the rapidly disappearing Jino. "I need to chase him down!" "You're not going anywhere, little cat.....You're invading my territory. your friend was lucky. he escaped....but i don't take kindly to invaders running through my territory at their whim. you WILL pay for this" snarled the Tiger as he began to circle the Lioness, Sitiri springing as soon as he was out of her direct path, only to be knocked to the ground by the Tiger, pinned down. the Lioness clawed at the Tiger's stomach, causing him to back away. the tiger snarled lowly. Sitiri's problems were no longer chasing Jino....she had to stay alive...

Uzuri glanced from Nguvu to Maiara to the direction the lions had run off in. "If she can delay him long enough for the others to catch up, it should be enough," she growled, trying as much to reassure herself and the leader.

Sitiri roared as she tackled the tiger, determined to get after Jino. the Tiger however, wasn't going to let her go anywhere. taking the blow he swung both his clawed paws into her sides as he bit onto her neck, the lioness roaring in pain as they tumbled, the tiger pinning her under his weight. just as he rose a paw to rip her throat out, he was tackled by two lionesses, who proceeded to rip and slash at the tiger mercilessly, as Sari checked Sitiri, who had been knocked out when she was pinned, her head hitting a rock. the Tiger roared in pain, kicking one lioness off and slashing at the other, fighting free of his attackers and bolting, knowing he'd die if he stayed. "Where's Jino's scent?" growled Sari, the other two lionesses looking around, checking the air. "We've lost him...the scent of the blood and the tiger have overwhelmed his scent" responded Shareeka. Sari snarled in frustration. "Maiara won't like this" she growled as she struggled to get herself under Sitiri, trying to support her weight so she wouldn't slip, so she could take her back to the pride. the other two lionesses helped, and together, they sowly returned to the pride...

Nearly an hour later, they returned, Maiara rushing over at the sight of the unconscious Sitiri. "What happened?!" she snarled. "We don't know. but when we reached her Sitiri was fighting for her life against a tiger. she must have cut through its territory while chasing Jino. We lost his trail with the blood and the tiger's scent in the air" explained Sari, Maiara snarling furiously, her paw slamming into the ground, claws raking deep grooves in the sand, the frustrated lioness sighing, trying to calm herself. "We'll get him somehow...It doesn't matter. you did what you could" she growled. the lionesseslowered their heads respectfully to the matriarch before moving Sitiri over to a nearby watering hole, Maiara going with them to tend to her daughter's wounds. "Did you kill the tiger?" growled Nguvu as he walked over to the lionesses. Sari shook her head. "He got away before we could" she explained. "Then i'll hunt him down" he growled as he turned. "No" growled Maiara firmly. "You need to recover so you can take down Maovu. we'll get the tiger eventually". Nguvu nodded finally, respecting his mother's wishes...

"You think he's going back to Maovu?" Uzuri asked in a low voice.

"Definately" growled Nguvu lowly. "Though he'll probably get mauled for failing, knowing Maovu"...

"You IDIOT!" snarled Maovu angrily. "I give you one simple task and you FAIL?!" he growled as he paced back and forth, Jino shying away in a half crouch, as if thinking it might help him survive the reaction of the older lion. "I couldn't do anything about it! Kubwa turned on us! I tried to help Kuruk but after Kubwa took me out of the fight the others teamed up against him" he growled fearfully. "Perhaps had you put more effort into it Kuruk would have succeeded....even if it costed you your life. at least that way you'd be of use!" snarled Maovu, pacing back and forth. "I was knocked out! i couldn't do anything!" growled Jino desperately. Maovu raised a paw to silence Jino just as he was about to say something else. "What happened afterwards?" he growled. "They forced me back to our old pride....and they did this to me" he growled lowly, looking down at his chest, as if gesturing to the claw marks all over his body. Maovu stood there in thought, a low smirk coming from him. "Regardless, you've done well to escape and inform me. come. we need to inform the pride. It's about time we chose a new place to stay" growled Maovu, Jino watching the lion walk away confusedly, following close after him...

Amani slowly woke up, looking at Uzuri and Nguvu ahead of her. "What happened?" Amani growled sleepily, noticing Jino was gone. "Did Jino escape or something?" the lioness continued with a rumble, shortly after yawning as she stretched once she had gotten up...

"Yes, he did" growled Nguvu lowly, watching as Maiara nursed Sitiri's wounds, several cuts on her battered form. he burned with the urge to hunt down and mutilate the tiger, but decided to do that after he had dealt with Maovu...

Several weeks later, the trio's wounds had healed and were all but invisible. Nguvu stood watching Maiara as she returned from her patrol. "I take it you're ready?" she growled. Nguvu nodded. at his side, stood Kubwa. he had done much for the pride recently, and they had begun to relax their opinions of him, not being as tense and untrusting as before. now they felt something of an indifference towards him, neither trusting nor distrusting...

Uzuri stood beside Nguvu as well, her paws kneading the grass in anticipation.

Night and Lusa, meanwhile, had cleared the cave of bats. All it took was a few good, long howls to shake them up, and then some barking snarls and snaps of the teeth at fragile wing membranes to ensure they got the picture; this cave was the home of a pair of wolves now. They and any other intruders weren't welcome. The white wolf had made quick work of a small leopard that had been foolish enough to venture too close. Its skeleton, stripped clean by insects and displaying every bone Night had snapped, rested at the cave entrance.

"Good luck" growled Maiara, Sitiri and Shani at her sides, nodding the four goodbye. with that, Nguvu turned and left, leading the three towards Maovu's territory. Kubwa kept close to his brother, walking with deliberate eagerness. it was time he proved to his family that he was trustworthy once and for all...

however, several hours later, the four were met not with a territory border, but with disappointment. there was no trace of Maovu's pride. Kubwa snarled furiously. "They're gone! that coward must've known we'd come" growled Kubwa. Nguvu however, refused to give up. he went back and forth along the plains for a trace, Kubwa working just as desperately, if not more-so. but nothing of the pride's scent turned up. they were long gone. Nguvu snarled lowly, head down in defeat. "Now there's no telling if we'll EVER find them again" he growled. Kubwa lowered his head sadly, not knowing how he'd be able to make up for the loss of Maovu's trail...

Uzuri was pacing back and forth, shaking her head as she too failed to pick up any scent of Maovu's pride.

Amani growled in frustration as she searched for any scent of Maovu or his pride, not picking up any race of them at all. "I knew something like this would happen if Jino managed to escape," the lioness growled, her head lowered, angered and frustrated at the same time of allowing Jino to escape and warn Maovu. "We should try checking further up north, they probally headed in that direction," Amani rumbled, glancing over towards Nguvu, Uzuri, and Kubwa, trying to slightly cheer them up.

"Problem is they've had nearly a month. we could be going in the exact opposite direction" growled Nguvu in frustration, clawing deep grooves in the rough ground. add to that they already HAD been searching North and South of the pride's original location, with no success. checking East of where the Pride used to be also brought up no results. as far as Nguvu and the others were conscerned, Maovu and his pride had practically disappeared off the face of the earth. and with the amount of ground they could cover in that period of time....there was literally no chance of them finding Maovu. Nguvu looked up towards the jungle, spotting three lionesses; Shareeka, Sari and Muneera, Maiara's scouts. likely they had been sent to watch and help Nguvu and the others if Kubwa were to turn on them. Nguvu simple shook his head, the Lionesses lowering their heads in disappointment, before disappearing into the trees, heading to relay the news of Maovu's disappearance to Maiara...

after several moments of misery, Nguvu sighed. "Well....there's no use in searching for something that won't come up" he growled. Kubwa looked up at him, a sadness in his eyes that Nguvu could almost feel just by looking into them. though this incident had done one thing. even though Kubwa didn't get the chance to prove his loyalty by bringing down and bringing back Maovu to Maiara, the result was just as well. Maovu's pride had left, leaving him behind and leaving no traces. technically abandoning him. unless there was some seriously convenient plan made to come back to him and all this was planned to happen from the beginning, they may as well have disowned Kubwa. in other words: he really HAD betrayed Maovu and helped Nguvu. Nguvu smiled lowly. at least now he could mostly be at peace regarding Kubwa's loyalties...

Uzuri let out a sigh that was both frustrated and disappointed. "If the scent's gone, it's gone," she growled, half to herself. "Where do we go from here?" she added to Nguvu.

"Find a comfortable place to live for a while....how's the jungle sound to you?" growled Nguvu. Kubwa looked up, but lowered his head again, mentally scolding himself for even thinking that his opinion was wanted. Nguvu caught the expression, feeling sorry for his brother. he couldn't be feeling in the best of moods at the moment. "Kubwa? nothing to say?" growled Nguvu, Kubwa looking up, surprised. "You....you want my opinion?" he growled, surprise evident in his voice. "Of course. Afterall, you're staying with us for a while. least we can do is let you have a voice like everyone else here" responded Nguvu. Kubwa tried to smile, though it came out somewhere between a smile, a frown and a stunned expression, his mouth hanging open in a half smile strangely. "Oh" he managed. "I'd....i'd like the jungle, i guess" he growled, not used to being asked for his opinion, Maovu having never given him that privelege. "What about you?" growled Nguvu, eying Uzuri, then Amani...

Amani sighed as she looked to the ground, to frustrated that Maovu had gotten away from them before they had the chance to get to him. Not know what else to do fom that point on, she looked up and finally replied with a nearly silent growl, "I just feel like living on my own for a while," before glancing over towards her sister, then Nguvu and Kubwa, waiting for their responses...

"Sounds great," Uzuri growled, smiling. Eagerness began to replace the dejected feeling of failing to catch Jino or Maovu.
