Xanthe chuckled again. "Still, no matter how much trouble they get into, can't help but admire youngsters," he growled. "They have so much energy." He watched as Alira and Cirrus got into a small tug-of-war over a strip of meat they'd both grabbed at the same time. The gray male was growling in his high-pitched voice, while Alira was making small, frustrated noises.
Meanwhile, the sub-adults were in the middle of working out a strategy. As Xanthe had said they would, they'd come across a small herd of Diplodicus. The young ones were towards the middle of the group, and the adults, with their long and dangerous tails, were ambling along slowly beside them, their teeth making short work of the vegetation they could reach. Even as they watched, one of them, a young bull, whipped his tail - there was a loud crack, and a low-growing branch was severed from a small tree. They would have to be careful, but they'd all but decided to go for one of the adults. There was something not right with that female - she was limping on one side, and she smelled of sickness. The allosaurs could also smell the telltale odor of a badly infected wound. "We'll run through the herd," one of the males growled. "Split them up. When that female's far enough behind, we go for it." He looked at the hunting party. "Xanthe and the others are counting on us," he reminded them. "So don't take any stupid risks." His gaze rested for a moment on a few males who'd been known to show off for Xanthe. "That goes for everyone. Now let's go." With that, the group of sub-adults began to stalk the sauropods, keeping their focus on that one female.
