At the top of a near-empty apartment building, a tray that once contained a cheap, microwave dinner was picked up from a scratched, dented kitchen table and tossed into a nearby trash bin. Adriana glanced around at the once sparklingly clean room, trying not to think of too many memories that went with it. The teen had been attempting to clean up some of the debris since the accident- or whatever it had been, and thought the apartment at least looked a little bit better than it had three weeks ago. At first it surprised her that nobody seemed to have noticed that one of the building's residents vanished into thin air, leaving behind an apartment that had been thoroughly turned upside down. She thought the other residents must have known something was amiss however, judging by the fact that most had moved out within the first week of the event. The teen paced across the kitchen and into the living room, tracing restless circles across the partially-vacuumed floor, stopping only to glance out the sliding glass door that lead to a small balcony on the front of the building. After a moment of thought, she clicked open the lock, pulled the door open, and did what she usually did when she was restless. The floor rushed up at her as she shrank, her skin blackening, face pushing forward into a sharp beak. In a few seconds, a glossy raven stood in her place, glancing back at the ruins inside before flapping up to the wrought iron railing and pushing off with several fast beats of its ebony wings. It climbed upward, flying in a large ark, and finally landed lightly on the low brick lip of the building's flat roof. Seconds after it landed, it began to warp and stretch, two legs becoming four, feathers becoming fur, its beak shortening into a feline muzzle. Now in the form of the previous next-door neighbor's gray tabby, the shape shifter continued her pacing along the brick wall, always inches from a fifteen-story drop. Somehow the thrill of danger helped take her mind away from the usual gnawing feeling of loss and pointlessness...
