Galaak spun on his heels out of Bate's direction of fire, swinging the staff about with the movement and slamming the orb into the side of the mercenary's head, a bright flash marking another stunning discharge

Bate fell to the side, slamming into the frozen cell and cracking the ice-covered wall and dropping his rifle. With an angry growl, he suddenly lunged forward in a half-crouch, knocking Galaak's staff aside with one hand and punching the explorer in the gut with the other, putting all his suit-enhanced strength into the blow...

Galaak let out a muffled grunt as the blow was landed, though he pulled himself back rather than absorbing the full force of the punch. He pulled his gun over his shoulder and fired practically point blank into Bate's visor, blinding him while sending volts crackling across and through his suit...

Bate abruptly straightened as the concentrated blast caused his entire suit to momentarily cease functioning, jerking spasmodically as it dealt with the overflow of power, before it stopped, causing the Cephian to topple backwards, stunned...

Kala had recovered enough to realize what was going on, and pounded his metal fists weakly against the frozen walls of the cell, cracking it even more in his attempt to finally break free...

Galaak eyed the down soldier cautiously as he walked hastily over to his staff, picking it off of the floor and returning it to its place on his back. "I once said that I never liked negotiating behind a weapon" said the Ascatian explorer as he stood up and began walking slowly to Bate. The flashing end of his Arc Accentuator was locked in aim at the soldier's head. "But apparently its the only way you Cephians can be reasoned with" he added, now standing a few feet from the downed alien. "Make any hostile move and I will kill you"

Bate's head sluggishly rose to look at Galaak behind the orange, glowing visor. "Why... are you so... intent on helping... this... criminal? He has... done nothing... for you..." Kala paused in his attempt to escape and listened to the conversation on the other side, letting his energy recharge...

"He hasn't done anything for me personally, no. But he's risked his life for the sake of countless others in this galaxy. That is why I help him" Galaak replied, keeping his attention on his scanners. He would not be caught by any surprise 'guests' deciding to to assist Bate...

Bate made a weak laugh. "Is that what he told you? Is it not clear that he has committed atrocities? Stolen a prototype war machine? Betrayed a former partner? Don't you get it? He's too dangerous to be kept alive..."

"In all fairness, said partner was hunting him down like an animal and- judging by his orders to you- seems to be more interested in the 'war machine' than his mission entails." Galaak retorted. "He was willing to let loose his weapons on a planet unable to defend against them without any qualm. Imagine what he would do if he acquired the suit for himself!"

"He would return the suit to the Primacy, as ordered!" Bate growled. "Question his tactics if you must. I do as well, admittedly, but he does his job, and that's all that matters..."

"You are a fool if you believe a job is worth the lives of innocents, and the universe would probably be better off without the likes of you" Galaak said, his gruff voice suddenly becoming cold and grim. If a battle must be fought, then it should only concern its combatants and none other. This was one of the Ascatian's core beliefs, and few things infuriated him more than a blatant disregard for life...

"I am doing my duty as a soldier," Bate spat. "I do not have a say in whether or not to refuse an order, no matter how disagreeable it may seem. I am not the commanding officer on this expedition. I am not the one who came up with the plan to attack a population center. I am just following orders."

"Did you ever stop to think of the consequences? Did you ever wonder just what your folly could have caused?" said the Ascatian, his tone leveling out again without a trace of his anger. It would have been unsettling indeed to be around one whose emotions were so reserved. Without knowing his mannerisms, Galaak would seem just as threatening as the criminal Bate saw in Kala. Without waiting for a response, he added "If you value your life you will stay down there". He headed over to the cell, seeing that Kala had made an effort in freeing himself...

Kala stepped back from the cell wall and kicked, leaving a significant fracture in the wall, though not quite enough to shatter the thick ice. Bate stayed where he was, glaring at Galaak's back as he turned away...

Galaak grasped the shaft of his Zerelion and with a mighty swing, brought the electrical orb down on the frozen glass; the resulting discharge breaking a cover of ice and causing several cracks to form across the wall. It also caused the fracture Kala made to fall apart into a frost covered heap on the floor. "Well this is...a familiar sight" Galaak said, referring to the former glass hallway in the facility.

Kala didn't respond for a moment. Instead, he activated his arm cannons and fired at the remaining portions of frozen wall, shattering them effortlessly. He stopped through the opening wordlessly, nodding at Galaak before stepping up to Bate's prone form, the Cephian making no effort to defend himself as Kala put an adamantium blade to his throat. "Where is he?" "If he saw what happened, he'll be at the hangar bay. You better hurry. He said he has some sort of contingency plan for you." "So I should just let you live then?" "I am doing my duty for my people, Kala. I am now aware that I have failed my mission. Why waste your time? Zakai will not wait around for you to execute me. If you want to do what you think is right, you will stop him from harming any more of these native creatures." "And who ever said I cared for the humans? I just wanted to hide away in peace, not force myself to defend this world from scum like you and Zakai who only want this suit for personal gain." Bate paused for a long moment, staring directly into Kala's visor. "So, that would be his motivation, then. I suppose I should be surprised, but it doesn't matter. Go kill him, then. I will not pursue. I have no need to anymore..." Kala paused momentarily, before turning away, facing Galaak. "You sure you want to help me still? I already put you through hell and back just to get this far..."

"Zakai is your enemy to overcome. I will not get in the way of that. I will, however, take care of anything he has to interfere with the battle. Even if I have to freeze this entire ship, section by section before having E-doch destroy it" Came Galaak's response as he laid his staff and gun on his back, awaiting what he hoped to be the final fight...

Kala nodded. "That's what I wanted to hear. Let's move." The Cephian turned and sprinted out of the room, shouting over his shoulder, "I'll lead the way!" Bate, for his part, did not move except to sit up and lean back against the cell wall. He had done his work. If he survived this, and the ship was still intact, he was leaving to get a very well-deserved vacation...

A few officers approached, while the others continued to point their guns at the man. As the first neared, he grabbed the man's arm swiftly, placing it behind his back and forcing him to the ground, two other officers assisting him in handcuffing the being...

Mortum did not struggle. He saw no point in fighting them. Even if he wanted to, he was too weak from the fighting to be willing to. He WAS on their side, after all. Once they got him behind bars, he could simply break out....

Aya and the rookie cars soon pulled up to the scene.... only for it appearign everything was already done.

Dammit... I should've known. Aya exitted her squad car, along with five rookies from the other cars, and they all headed towards the place of the action.
