Atlas backed into the indoor garage of his split level home, turning off the engine on the Lamborghini as he got out, closing the door on the vehicle behind him and heading towards the door to the kitchen, the beep of the car's lock being heard as he opened the door, entering the kitchen and swiftly making himself a decaf coffee, the kettle soon boiling as he shrugged off his jacket and set it down on the sofa in the connecting lounge, turning on the TV and switching it to the news, hoping to find information on the cause of the horrific traffic jam that had kept him out the last two hours. As he poured the hot water over the coffee and sugar and looked towards the large 55'' LED TV set into the wall, footage showed what looked like a war zone. molten bullet holes and scorch marks riddled the walls of buildings, windows were blown out, shattered by unknown causes, the cars in the area were smashed nearly beyond recognition, either dented, burning, half-melted or torn apart, though a few had gotten away with minor dents and smashed windows. and in the middle of it all, a Bomb Squad was investigating a massive crater in the middle of the road, smoke billowing from the hole as embers lay around it's edge, the scene shifting to a bird's-eye-view of the scene, showing a glowing centre to the molten core of the crater, looking as if whatever had gone off had literally obliterated whatever had been there. "...And as you can see, the entire city block has been utterly destroyed. Eye witnesses report streaks of light zipping across the area. One witness went as far as to say it looked 'like something out of a Star Wars movie'. In the midst of it all we have this strange crater, taking up most of the street. the wreckage of the cars that had been here at the time it happened can be seen blown away, mangled lumps of metal imbedded in the sides of buildings, torn apart, burning and melting all around the blast area. Bomb squads are at work investigating the cause of the crater, But for now, no definite cause has been identified. Buildings stand ravaged by what look like...bullet holes. We have yet to find out the cause of the destruction, but we will provide information as it comes. This is Rebecca Sleeter, Channel 5 News, reporting from Downtown Los Diamantes". and with that, the scene returned to the familiar red and gold backdrop as the news anchors shifted to a different topic. Atlas sipped his drink, mind at work as he considered the possible causes. molten holes riddled the walls of the building, indicating high temperature projectiles had hit them. But the spread resembled that of the bullet holes of a gun. The logical conclusion was that they were energy weapons. But who had energy weapons? They were still being worked on. Top Secret work being done by various governments and Weapons Contractors that was still in it's early stages. There were a few prototypes, and some completed ones, sure. But not nearly enough to cause THAT much damage. As the man finished his drink, he headed towards the bedroom, deciding it best he didn't waste time, knowing he'd need to rest for the following day...
The next morning saw Atlas out at precisely 6 AM. The hospital was a 45 minute drive from here, but with the traffic, he'd guess it'd take him an hour and 30 minutes at best. with a large silver briefcase and a lab coat set in the passenger's seat by his side, the man clad in a grey suit and blue tie, had him on his way...
"Ah yes, organised chaos. the sign of a clever but ever-busy mind. To the perpetrator, a carefully woven web of belongings and intrigue, but to the bystander? Madness!"
