She smiled. "Thank you, Barbossa. Come, Eric." She grabbed his hand and led him to the captain's cabin where they can talk in private. She closed the door behind her and looked at Eric. "How do you feel about being captain, Eric? Not so easy as you thought now." She sighed. "I really think you should stop. Every second you are being yelled at Barbossa and it's hard for you to concentrate. Stand down and let me command the Red Dawn. I think you know I can handle it. I've been captain longer than you have. Let's face it: you are a brilliant singing tutor and I make an excellent captain." She waited to see what he would say and was suprised when he frowned and shook his head in a no. She thought that he would give it up and realize that this was not his kind of work.
"Adeline," he began, looking out the window. "You don't know this, but I made a promise to your father to protect you from any danger. He doesn't want his little girl to get hurt. He loves and cares for you, Adeline. You know this." He finally turn toward her. "I know the work is exhausting, but I am doing this for you."
She closed her eyes and shook her head. "Oh Eric..." She walked far away from Eric, to the opposite part of the room. "I am not a little girl anymore. I don't need protecting. I can take care of myself. I survived this long, haven't I?" Her voice was breaking. She could hear his footsteps and feel his hands wrap around her from behind. "Stop it," she murmured. "I want my captainship back." She turned to face him. All she saw was the black of his mask and the green of his eyes. "I-If we are to be married, you have to learn to trust me." She tried to read the emotion in his eyes.
Eric was studying her long and hard. All she was asking for him to do was to trust her. His gaze hardened into a glare. "How can I trust you," he hissed. "You ran away from me and broke off the previous engagement, remember?"
"Only because you scared me away," she pushed him off of her and went to touch the doorknob, but he wrapped his hand around her elbow. "This conversation is over, Eric. You need to go back to Captain Barbossa. I am trying to help you. You can still be my singing tutor. You don't have to be the captain. Think about it, and do it quick."
That's exactly what Eric did. If he was still captain, he would have to deal with Barbossa's yellings and spend no time with Adeline. But if he gave it back to Adeline, well, he would probably have more time to spend with her. She didn't need the training because she already knew the trade. He sighed deeply. "Very well, Adeline. You can command the ship again."
Adeline smiled and hugged Eric. "You made a good choice. Thank you, Eric." She literaly ran out of the cabin to Captain Barbossa with a smile on her face. "Barbossa," she exclaimed happily. "Will, Elizabeth! I have great news that will probably make you all very happy."
Eric followed silently. He couldn't hide the smile that was on his face. He was glad to see her happy and hoped to give her more happiness when they got married.
