James looked at Adeline for a moment, his look one of thought, before saying "I suppose it could be called Engagement without a ring". a grin appeared on his face as he thought about it. "Engagement sir?! i dont see any ships!". James said "What's the Endeavour then?! a Dingy?!". he chuckled at the terrified look of the crew member. he had thought James was talking about NAVAL Engagement, not Marital Engagement. and now that James mentioned the H.M.S. Endeavour, the man was shaking in his boots. "Oi! Sailor! what're you frightened for?! you're practically on the Black Pearl! queen of Sailing Ships! it's the Endeavour that's afraid of US!". the crew member nodded, being reassured slightly, and returned to his post. "Dont want to blow our little plan to the world YET, now, do we?" he said to Adeline, his voice almost a whisper. he winked, a grin on his face as he then looked across to the Endeavour, his mind caught between the thoughts of what he hoped was an impending marriage, and the thoughts of the impending battle. which would come first? how would we get rid of Eric? James had an idea, but it was a bit cruel, sneaky though it may be, one would say it was out of the mind of Jack Sparrow himself, but James still doubted whether or not it would work...

Adeline's eyes sparkled at the word, engagement. When she heard that word come out of James, a feeling of joy started to well up inside her. She was engaged. Not only that, but engaged to the man that she loved. "But I am also married." That thought slightly dampened her spirits. There was a question of how she was going to get out of the marriage with Eric. One thing was for sure though: it was not going to be easy. She nodded at James' words. "Yes, it'll be a secret engagement."

James put his hand on Adeline's shoulder and squeezed gently and reasseringly. "one that won' be interrupted or stopped" he said, as he watched the scene unfold before him as the Empress, Endeavour and Black Pearl floated, side by side...

"What isn't?" said Jack. "The heart of Davy Jones. It's safely aboard the Dutchman, and so unavailable for use as leverage to satisfy your debt to the good captain" replied Beckett, a cold, emotionless expression worn on his face like a mask. "By my reckoning, that account has been settled" replied Jack. "By your death...and yet here you are" said Beckett. "Close your eyes and pretend it's all a bad dream. that's 'ow i get by" said Jack. "and if Davy Jones were to learn of your survival?" said Beckett. Jack was messing with a walking stick and comparing himself to a pose of Beckett on a painting. he stopped at the mentioning of Davy Jones. Jack walked over to the desk, and looked down at an army of metal soldiers, and 9 pieces of eight. a grin appeared on his face for a moment. "Perhaps we can think of an alternative arrangement. one which requires absolutely nothing from you but information" said Beckett, as he handed Jack a small glass of rum. Jack stared at it for a moment, then took it, and said "Regarding the Bretheren Court no doubt...". he took the second glass of rum while holding the first tiny one in his hand, the second one being one which Beckett was going to have for himself. he continued "In exchange for fair compensation...". he downed the first glass and continued "...square my debt with Jones..." he downed the next glass, and put both down as he said "...guarantee my freedom". Beckett poured some rum into another small, delicate glass as he said "Of course. it's just good business". Jack picked up a small painted metal soldier, as he said "Well then, were i in a divulgatory mood, what then might i divulge?". Beckett said "Everything. where are they meeting? who are the Pirate Lords? what is the purpose of the nine pieces of eight?"...

Adeline said nothing, but noticed some sort of comotion going on the Pearl. There were many people on it. "What's going on over there," she murmured as she squinted her eyes to try to get a better look...

James handed Adeline his spyglass and said "You find out what's going on over there. I need to dig out something that could help us with the battle". James then left down to the lower deck, leaving Adeline to find out what was going on on the Pearl...

"Ok." She went to the railing, pulled out the spyglass, and looked through into to see some sort of dispute going on there. Captain Sao Feng was on the Pearl, as well as Will, Elizabeth, and Barbossa. They all seemed to be arguing about something, mainly Will and Barbossa. What were they arguing about? "I wonder if I could...no, I will not be involved." She noticed that Elizabeth said something and roughly pushed Will away from her. She frowned at this behaviour and decided to watch no more.

"...you can keep Barbossa, the Belligerent monster and his friend with the wooden eyeball....and Turner...especially Turner...the rest go with me aboard the Pearl and i'll lead you to Shipwreck Cove, where i'll hand you the Pirates and you will NOT hand me to Jones. bloody fair deal, dont ya think?" said Jack. "And what becomes of miss Swann?" enquired Beckett. James hesitated for a moment, and then said "What interest is she to you?". "Jack, i've just recalled. i have this wonderful Compass....which points to whatever i want. so for what, do i need you?" said Beckett, trying to tighten down and lower Jack's requested price. Jack grinned and said "Points to the thing you want most, and that is not the bretheren Court now, is it?" Beckett said "Then what is, Jack?". Jack said "Me!...im dead". Beckett tossed Jack the compass, and Jack tossed Beckett a small fann he had been using for the last few minutes. Beckett said "Although....if i kill you, i can use the compass to find...Shipwreck Cove, is it? on my own...cut out the middle man as it were". he pointed a pistol at Jack and stepped forward a few paces. Jack said "With me killed, you'd arrive at the Cove to find it's a fortress nigh unpregnable, able to withstand blockade for YEARS, and then you'll be wishing oh, if only there was someone who i had NOT killed inside to make sure the pirates then come OUTSIDE". Beckett said "And you can accomplish all this, can you?". Jack said "You may kill me but you may never insult me. who am i?". Beckett, thinking it was a riddle he didn't know, shook his head, slightly confused. Jack's grin was wiped off his face as he said "I'm Captain Jack Sparrow...". at those words, a cannonball blasted through the room and wrecked the windows and several pieces of furniture, and Beckett fell to the floor, his pistol sliding out of his hands. "DONE!" said Jack as he ran for the door. he opened it to see two guards rush at him. he closed the doors slamming their faces on the edges and knocking them out, and ran out, heading for the deck...

"Full canvas and prepare the guns with chain shot!" Yelled James as he walked up onto the deck, and went to the wheel. "Adeline, you think you're up for a swordfight?"...

as the Dragon sailed out from behind the island, James handed a spare Spyglass to Adeline, and used his own to keep an eye out for his father. what Jack did shocked him. His father was on the Quarterdeck, and he tied a rope to a cannon, and pointed it at the mast, which was behind the stairs to the lower deck. he put a tiny figurine of what looked liek a soldier at the mouth of the cannon, and threw a looped part f the rope onto one of the masts. a wigged man walked onto the deck which James could only assume was Beckett. after a small talk, Jack lit the fuse, fired the cannon and held onto the rope. Beckett got out of the way just in time. the cannon fired and shot through the main mast, and Jack was catapulted through the air and landed on the pearl....on the Stern Decoration near the Lanterns. Barbossa and the crew ran up to the quarter deck as the rope fell off the side, and were about to turn around until they spotted Jack. everyone just stared at him awestruck, as did James. Jack got down from the stern of the Pearl, and said something to Ragetti and Pintel, afterwhich Will was taken below deck. James sailed out as the Pearl headed off, James intending to impair their advancement a bit. "Prepare to fire!" yelled James as he sailed out from behind the island and in front of the Endeavour...

"How soon can we have a ship ready to pursue?" said Beckett, annoyed at the state of his Flagship. as his Leuitenant was about to say something, they head splintering wood, and the mainmast that Jack had shot crashed into the ocean, splinters scewering several crewmembers. "Do you think he plans it all out? or just makes it up as he goes along?" said the Leuitenant in an admiring tone of voice. Beckett looked at him, and he apologised and headed down to the deck to find out what the nearest ship that could follow the targets was. Beckett turned to see the state of his ship...then caught a glimpse of something black showing up...looking up from the deck to what was ahead of the ship, he spotted ANOTHER Black Pearl. "W....wh....what the hell?" said Beckett, a tone of absolute bewilderment on his face, thinking he was imagining things...

"SHOOT!" yelled James, and Nathan passed the command over to the crew on the decks, and a broadside of chainshot tore through the masts. the remaining 3 masts fell to the ground and James steered the Dragon towards the Pearl, following close behind, an absolutely stunned look on the crew of the Endeavour...

Adeline stared at Jack as he literaly flew off of the Endeavour and landed on the Pearl. After staring for some time, she let out a laugh. "Looks like James is not the only acrobat around here," she thought and gazed at James admiringly for a minute. Then he let out the command to shoot and watched as the chainshot tore through the other masts of the Endeavour. It turns out that there was not going to be any swordfight. She shrugged at this and was about to go below decks. "Wait, should I even go down there? What is Eric doing now?" She thought back to the look that he gave to her earlier when she was clinging on to James after they returned from World's End. He looked angry at her. Did he calm down after a while? "Better find out." She took a deep breath and decended down to the lower decks.

When she got to Eric's room, she gazed at the door longingly. Her hand turned the doorknob and she entered quietly. The room was dimly lit. She frowned at this, closed the door, and walked deeper into the room to see Eric, with his eyes open, laying on the bed. He suddenly looked her way and whispered her name. "Adeline...come here." His voice was soft and welcoming.

Adeline was puzzled by his behaviour. She cautiously walked toward him and sat on the bed. "What is it?"

Suddenly, that plain expressionless face morphed into a smirk. He wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her down to sit on his lap. Adeline let out a gasp of suprise as he did this. "Charles," he whispered into her ear.

"Charles?" She looked into his face with a look of puzzlement still on her face.

"For the baby, if it's a boy," he whispered again. "And it is time for your singing lesson."

James sailed after the Pearl, and then put Nathan in command, and walked back to his cabin. he saw Rainbow sitting in there, a message tied to his foot. "RAAK! Cap'n Jack! Cap'n Jack! RAAAK!". James chuckled and took the note, and spread it out.

"Oi James,
Dont pick Will up if he goes overboard. Just trust me, mate,
Captain Jack Sparrow
"

James raised an eyebrow in surprise. "IF he goes overboard"? knowing his father, it was more of a WHEN he goes overboard, than an IF. James went over to his rum cabinet. he was lucky he hadn't spent as long in the locker as his father. otherwise his special Rum Cabinet would've been dry by now. he picked out a slightly less potent bottle, and sat down in his chair, looking at the charts he had with him at the moment. judging by the Chart estimates, he was currently in the Pacific ocean, the gap between Singapore and the other nearby Eastern cities, and the Caribbean. he started checking the map for ShipWreck Cove. unfortunately, his map wasn't drawn out by a Pirate, and hadn't had the Pirate Hides maked on the map. James sat back and sipped on his rum, thinking about Adeline, and the future...and how to free them of the Eric problem...

"A-A singing lesson?" Adeline tried to get up, but he held her there. She tried to look away from him, but he cupped her chin and forced her to look into his eyes. "But I-I can't. I have a busy day and a meeting and-"

He put his finger over her lips. "We have all the time in the world for a-AH! Damnit!" He groaned and put the hand that was cupping Adeline's chin over his head.

Adeline tried to squirm from his strong grip, but he still wouldn't let go. She sighed and scanned the room for something...and suddenly found an empty bottle on the floor. "What is an empty bottle doing..." She trailed off on that thought, and suddenly realization hit her. That's why Eric had the headache! He had been drinking! Her eyes widened and her nose scrunched up in disgust. Had he been doing this because she was away with James? Again, she squirmed, trying harder this time, and finally, she was free! He leaned back against the bed and groaned again while she stared down at him with anger showing in her eyes. She picked up the bottle. "THIS, THIS caused you the headache?! I can't believe you would do something like THIS! I had not been gone that long. Oh my-" She was cut off when he finally stood up and grabbed her wrist, stopping her from slapping him. His cold eyes bore down on hers. She whimpered slightly as he squeezed her wrist.

"YOUR yelling is not helping me with my current situation, right now," he hissed. "Where have you been all day anyway? Hanging around with that...that boy, I presume? You listen to ME, Adeline. I saw you clinging to him. Why were you doing such a thing. Answer THAT!"

"T-The ship was rocking when we w-were flipping over. I had to hold on something. It's as simple as that," she shouted back, her eyes lighting with slight fear at her husband's tone of voice. She was backed up to a wall. "Are you satisfied? If so, let me go," she hissed.

He finally let her go and pushed himself away from her to lay on the bed. His head was pounding in pain. He clenched his teeth and hissed as the pounding continued. "Stay with me, Adeline. I need you," he said through clenched teeth, but found that she already fled the room. At this, Eric let out a yell of frustration and kicked something.

Adeline was rushing up the stairs, going up to the main deck again. She had to find somewhere safe. She had to...James! James was safe! She hoped that he was in his cabin. "He doesn't need me. He's..." She let out a moan and stomped her foot on the wooden floorboard in frustration. When she finally reached the closed door of James' cabin, Adeline let out a sigh of relief and opened it. She entered to find James drinking his rum and studying the charts. She tried to speak in a calm voice to him, but it was proven useless. "I can't deal with him." Her voice was full of frustration and anger. She felt like shooting something.

James looked up to see Adeline with a worried, frustrated look on her face. he knew it. that damned old brute of a man couldn't be sat with for a minute without making one get annoyed. even he had trouble controlling his temper when around him. he got up and walked over to Adeline, his rum bottle on the table, all but forgotten. James handed her one of the two small oranges they had managed to pick off some of the trees on the island before Beckett arrived. he pealed his own with one hand, the other wrapped around Adeline and leading her in, closing the door to the quarters behind him and said "Well, you wont have to. not for now anyway"...

Adeline started to peel away as she starting to talk about her damned husband. "I found out how he got that headache of his. He's been drinking since I was gone. I found a bottle on the floor of his room. Then, he expects me to stay with him because he needs me after demanding where I was all day! I don't think he needs me. Looks like that the drink is his new friend." She looked at her orange in suprise and found out that she squeezed it from talking so much about Eric. "I'm not hungry anyway," she thought.

James looked at the squeezed orange and Rainbow dove in and grabbed it, and landed on his perch. James dunked a small cloth in water and handed it to Adeline. "Let him be for now. A person who preffers rum to the care of a wife best be left alone in a Tavern" said James, mimicking a line he heard from Gibbs a while ago. Rainbow squaked "RAAK!Hanging around with that boy! saw you clinging to him!RAAAAAAAAK!", followed by a hiss. James looked at Rainbow, a look in his eye almost screaming that he wanted silence for now. the Macaw complied, and flew up to the crow's nest to watch out for something interesting...maybe the monkey on the Pearl or something like that. Boy, eh? well, i think that this boy'll be more than he can handle. the man's acting more like an overly protective, possessive father than a husband thought James, as he finished pealing his orange, and ate a piece, and handed another to Adeline...

Adeline thanked James and started to wipe her hands down with the cloth. She glared at Rainbow before he left and was glad that he did leave. All she needed was more words from Eric repeated to James. She looked at the other orange piece that was in her hand and finally decided to eat it. She sat down in a chair and let out a deep sigh. "Huh, interesting," Adeline commented after hearing what James said. "I don't think I can imagine him in a tavern setting...but then again, with the way he is acting now?" She thought about it, an amused expression on her face. Could she really see her formal singing teacher in a tavern? "He would fit right in, almost," she finally concluded.

James grinned. "From what i saw of him, he'd fit in perfectly". James walked over to the windows and closed them, to avoid any more annoying intrusions from Rainbow. he then walked over to a small couch in the cabin, which was more of a bench than a couch, a mango in his now empty right hand, and his dagger in his left, using it to cut the mango as he sat down...

Adeline managed to grin and calm down. She thought of it a little funny to come up here all frustrated and angry one moment, and the next moment she was calm and relaxed. "Probably because I am away from that damned husband of mine," she thought and wrapped her arms around herself. "He's possesive, over protective and has a hold over me." Her body shivered at this. "And his voice..." That was the one thing that she DID like about him, yet also hated at the same time. "His voice is always there, singing songs in my head." It was here right now, intoxicatingly sweet, singing to her, beckoning her to come back. Memories of the first singing lesson and of that performance rushed into her mind. She was looking off in one direction, not paying attention to what James was doing. "I don't know if it will ever stop." Will it stop even if she escaped from the marriage?

James said "I gathered as much by his behaviour" when he heard about Eric's possessiveness. he raised an eyebrow at the mention of his voice, and thought about it for a moment. "All voices fade with time. both in mind and in reality. but they need to be given time. at one time, my mother's claims that i'd be an absolutely useless tavern hand to be sent to make swords and pass messages around Tortuga had haunted my mind. then, when i had finally got away from the one constantly reminding me of it, those words and that voice faded from memory". he ate a slice from the mango, and watched Adeline, waiting for a reaction...
