"He was my singing teacher for years, since I was seven years of age," Adeline countered. "A relationship has been formed over the years. Will it go away after that long of a relationship with him?" She thought about when the relationship first started with him. She was sixteen and he was thirty one. The relationship lasted for almost two years and during that year she became engaged. During the second year she broke the engagement and left to become a pirate, having fantasies about sailing the open sea and wanting to escape the life she had before. Now here she was, married to the man she became engaged to in the first place and wanting to get out of it to be with James.

James said "i didn't get away from that voice at the age of 4. i was stuck with it until i became 18, just a few days before i left to sea to find my father in the first place. it just takes longer to get rid of completely the longer you stick with the source. having to face my mother everyday for as long as i can remember, until i left to sea, i heard it and the insults that came with it. at first, she was caring. but then suddenly began to hate me". James had been faced with a difficult life. he wished that he was free when he had been given to his uncle to care for. but sadly, that wish never came true. he was tortured with insults and words that just made him feel worthless. but eventually, he freed himself of it...

Adeline looked up at him. "Why did she hate you?" Her voice was soft. She carelessly placed her right hand on her left wrist and started to rub it, momentarily forgetting that it was the wrist that Eric squeezed. It stung a little, but she tried her best to ignore it.

James said "Well, i suppose i was a hinderance to her business. Sailors talk about which of the ladies there they..."enjoyed" and the popular ones of course get the most business. from what i had picked up in the years before i left, my mother was once the most...popular lady in Tortuga....then she lost all that popularity and business because of having a child...me. sailors warned eachother of the woman who would leave them with sons coming after them in the future, and that thought put off most of her customers. after 4 years of trying to be a barmaid, she couldn't take it. she couldn't get the same pay she had before. so she left me with my uncle and went back to her old life...never getting the same popularity she once had"...

Adeline scrunched up her face in disgust. "Why would any lady go for that kind of job." She didn't understand it. Were there some people in the world who actually enjoy..."Did she enjoy her buisness?" After hearing both Eric's and James' past, she came to the conclusion that the two women sounded like they enjoyed it.

James sighed. "I think she did. she was competitive and aggressive as a personality. she could easily have been a pirate. she preffered the life of a prostitute instead. why, i do not know. i suppose she felt it as a source of power in a way, having that many men under her hand, or rather, dress, made her feel like she controlled them. she didn't know that the same feeling of control could be gained by being a captain". James was disgusted by his mother's choice of life. yet, even with that, he still felt close to her. she was many things, but, none could top the fact that she was his mother...

Adeline sighed deeply. "It's a better lifestyle, being a captain than being a prostitute. In that kind of buisness, I think it is the men who really have the power. It can be a very cruel buisness, or it seems like it is. Who invented such a thing in the first place? Men?" She would imagine that they were the master minds behind it all.

James sighed. "If only men were the only ones responsible. the place my mother worked is run by a woman. apparently she was the most popular person on Tortuga, and then she was forced into marriage with some Pirate Leader she didn't want, so, to get away from him, she started up that place and got her husband drunk, led him ni there and left him with one of the girls. and she grew rich for it, making a deal with the other women that she'd get 50% of the earnings. then she paid a very skilled assassin to kill her husband, and now continues to run the place without her husband to bother her"...

Adeline was somewhat suprised to hear this and even more suprised to hear that she was also forced into a marriage she didn't want. The difference here though was that she got her husband drunk and later got her husband killed. "She must be living well then, making good money," she mumbled. "What of the girls there? How are they treated?"

James shrugged and said "Well, past the soft beds and constant lustful stare of one man or another, i dont think they were exactly happy people. one nearly knocked my eyes out with a slap before sending 5 men on me. if they weren't a bunch of drunken idiots, i dont know if i would've been able to turn them on her. she was running from their swords until i left the island..."

Adeline looked somewhat amused as James talked about his experience with one of the girls. She chuckled a little. "I'm glad you escaped from her, but you never went to that place, did you? I mean...on your own." She looked down from him and blushed. What was she thinking of saying such a thing? It was not proper. Then again, this whole talk might be considered not proper.

James chuckled. "Me? in there?! forget it. it gave me too many memories of what i had to do as a child, taking messages from drunken cutthroats and skallywags to my mother. besides, anytime i went near it i'd be reffered to as "Maria's runt". it made me feel like i was a piece of dirt to them. a side-effect of their job they didn't want to have". he put his hand under Adeline's chin, and raised it so that she was facing him. "And besides, im not too fond of "that lot". more than a couple of sailors who were into that a bit too much have died because of it in my lifetime. i'd rather not be another one to add to that long list. i'd much rather have a lady who actually loved me and didn't just say that to get ahold of what was in my pockets". James gave Adeline a light kiss on the cheek, almost like a wordless "thank you" in meaning...

Adeline smiled and a warm feeling started to glow inside of her. She got up and looked out the closed window, noticing that the sun was starting to go down. She took hold of James' hand. "Let's go watch the sunset."

James nodded, and went with Adeline up to the quarterdeck above the Quarters...through a trap door at the top of the spiral staircase whose lower end led to the Captain's Cabin. he pushed the door up and led Adeline up. the Crew were currently below decks, having dinner. the only one above was Raphael, who, as usual, remained above deck at all waking hours, keeping out of the Captain's personal life and out of his way, but always being there to serve him at anytime he needed it. he was currently at the bow, eating his meal while looking at the sharks below, mesmerised by the beauty of the sea. James, at the stern, was standing by Adeline, watching the sun go down, but being more focused on Adeline...

Adeline's eyes were on the beautiful sunset. She moved closer to James and lay her head on his shoulder, feeling a little tired. A golden glow was cast upon the sea as the sun started to decend lower. "Up is down," Adeline murmured thoughtfully and gazed up into James' handsome face. She smiled warmly and gave him another kiss, this one being soft.

James grinned. "Up is up and down is down now, thank goodness" he mumbled, a smile on his face as he stood before his first sunset in the real world in months.being beside the woman he loved made it that much more pleasurable. he took in Adeline's kiss for a moment, and wrapped one arm around her, holding her close, looking out at the sea, swaying against the ship's tilting, keeping himself perfectly balanced...

Adeline was glad to be here with James. It was the perfect moment, them together watching the sunset without any disturbances. She studied him for a moment before finally taking off his hat and smiled. "Much better. I like seeing more of you."

James grinned. "You could've asked" he chuckled as he stared into the deep brown eyes of the lovely Pirate Captain by his side...

"Hm, I could, but I'm a pirate." She smirked and put the hat on her head. "What do you think?" She striked a pose and smiled sweetly.

James chuckled and said "Really suits you". he took off his coat and put it on Adeline, exclaiming "And that does too, m'lady" with a little chuckle.
