Maxwell nods before following closely behind Persephone he tried to avoid lagging behind, but didn't want to go too fast and tire hismelf out either, so he settled for a steady, rhythmic fast-walk.....

Rick followed his comrades, moving himself at a fast enough walk to keep pace with them, but not pass them. He didn't dare think about what could happen if they were still in this canyon by the time night came, especially after the encounter with the Deinonychus pack earlier...

"Definitely" David took the hankerchief and started to head off, keeping pace with the others and staying out of site. The night was when his suit was the most effective. It, combined with his dark skin tone made him as good as invisable by sundown. He passed the cloth down his blade, making sure to clean out the grooves of the weapon, and the notches on the opposite side of the cutting edge. There were 6 notches, spaced one inch part so that the knife could serve as a ruler. The length of the blade was 7 inches, the handle itself being 5 inches. David handed the hankerchief back to Jacob, his knife free of blood and regaining its dull silver coloration

Barnes silently cursed the exposed canyon. Not because of potential predators spotting them (stealth was barely an option by this point), but because of the sun. With little vegetation on the canyon floor, except the occasional shrub, the mercs were constantly pounded by the sun's hot rays. Thankfully, it was already beginning to set on the horizon, casting a brilliant orange glow over the island...

By the time Sue had gotten to the crashed tram in the canyon, there were no humans left in the area. In fact, even the Deinonychus were in hiding, using the rocks and evening gloom to give themselves some semblance of cover. A Tyrannosaurus would more than likely ignore animals as small as them, but they weren't willing to take any chances. Sue nosed the wreckage with her massive reptilian head, picking up the scents of the mercs that saturated the contraption. With a furious roar, Sue viciously headbutted the tram's cockpit, knocking it off its hinge and sending it rolling a short distance with a loud crash. The Rex stomped past the wreckage, giving the dented cockpit a quick, almost casual kick, knocking it to the side as she stormed past...

By the time the mercs heard the roar, they were almost at the end of the canyon. However, visibility was becoming an issue as night fell. "Dodgson, how close is the research base?" Barnes asked. "Only a quarter of a mile from the canyon," the man replied. "Good. We better double time it then. We don't have much longer before Sue gets here, and I'd rather be in a protected structure than out in the open when that happens..." "Just up there," Dodgson said, pointing up at the canyon wall. The area was almost identical to the opposite side of the canyon: a single tram control station, as well as an overgrown trail leading up the slope and back into the jungle...

Hiero had kept pace and wasn't having too much trouble, used to hostile conditions despite most of his time spent in cities with airconditioned buildings. As they reached to end of the canyon he looked over his shoulder, he felt out of sorts almost like this place was doing something to his head. He merely emptied his mind and continued on with everyone else, unconcerned maybe he did feel the effects of the sun bearing down on him.

Riley quickly seemed to break into the jog, all the heavy equipment he had brought with him slowing the man down as the group moved on and had caused him to lag behind the rest of the mercs...

Persephone kept up her brisk walking pace. Though she seemed tired, she was usedto walknig for long distances quite abit, and more. Thank you, Westpoint, for your hellish training... Persephone thought to herself as she followed Dodgson...

Barnes ascended the trail in the canyon wall, breathing evenly. He was used to long treks. If there was one thing the military did, it was keep you in shape. Dodgson, however, wasn't so fortunate. Though the tram allowed them all to rest, the suited man was still breathing heavily. By the time they got to the top of the canyon, he paused to catch his breath, and Barnes took the opportunity to wait for the mercs to arrive as well, taking the time to open his SOPMOD kit and begin switching a few things: he attached a torch and laser sight onto the barrel, as well as his underslung grenade launcher. They would need it if Sue decided to come calling...

Jacob took the cloth, folding it and rolling it tightly, before opening the pouch, placing it inside, sealing it afterwards. without a second thought, he continued onwards, wary of his surroundings as he pressed forward, following the direction of the tracks, having reached the top of the canyon a while ago, still a fair distance ahead of the others. he no longer trusted his surroundings. after the thing they had spotted near the clearing the Osprey landed at, he was expecting something unseen to leap out at almost any moment...

Persephone sat down on the ground, a bit tired, but still ready to move or get into action if necessary. The climb up the canyon trail had been a tad bit... taxing on her stamina, but she she was now also at the top of the canyon with Barnes... She unslung her backpack, before zipping it open and getting out the water bottle she carried with her. She was about to drink from it, when a thought came across her mind. "Need a drink of water?" Persephone asked the man...

David took notice of his partner's behavior, how he checked his environment, scrutinized every detail. It was the exact same thing he was doing now, repeating what he had done before their arrival at the canyon. It was funny really, how he was so cautious before. The time he spent in the tram's cargo compartment was time used to calm and ready himself for the hurdles ahead. "Funny how **** hits the fan when they show up" David said quietly to Jacob as they went along their way, reffering to the larger group. What he had seen before only cemented his desire to be far away from the collection of "mercenaries"

Maxwell soon joins Barnes, Persephone, and Dodgson at the top of the hill. The man grumbles before he unslings his monstrously heavy backpack, waiting for his buddy Riley to catch up...

Riley soon makes it to the top of the canyon wall and sits down near the edge, breathingly heavily...

When David and Jacob had entered the canyon, the Carnotaurus stalking them didn't bother following, for obvious reasons. Instead, it stayed at the edge of the canyon wall, watching their progress below--easy enough, considering how they had managed to disturb the Deinonychus nest AND attract Utahraptors at the same time. When the two had, once again, split from the larger human herd and entered the forest again, the Carnotaurus continued to watch them. Lone prey was easy prey. And this time, the predator wasn't alone.

The Carnotaurus' mate had joined him during his trek along the canyon wall, and the two were now very close to each other, nearly touching, in order to disrupt their camouflage. They knew the humans would be able to see them, but only indistinctly. What looked like a very large predator to the human prey was, in reality, two smaller ones next to each other. Of course, that was if the humans could see them in the first place. In the growing gloom, the hunters' color-changing skin was significantly more effective. Without sharp contrasts in color and shadow that was present during the day, their scales could much more easily blend in with their surroundings, almost to the degree of a cuttlefish. They were virtually invisible to animals without effective night vision--and humans fit that description well. Soon, they would strike, and their prey wouldn't even know what hit them...

Rick joined Barnes, Dodgson, Riley, Persephone and Maxwell, sitting down almost the second he had brought himself to a stop. He had undergone this sort of training prior to joining the mercs, but this long walk had still made him tired...

Once Barnes was sure everyone was present, he said, "Get out your flashlights, if you have any. We're gonna need them, especially if the research base doesn't have power. Keep moving while you're working, though. We need to get to the base ASAP." Barnes pushed through the jungle as it grew thicker, followed by Dodgson and the remaining mercs...

Persephone gave a quick aside glare at Barnes as she got onto her feet, put her water bottle back into her bag, and got out her flashlight. I guess he doesn't need a drink... Persephone fumed in her mind, not exactly happy to have a question she asked go unanswered... but she was one to forgive and forget... besides, there were far larger fish to fry right now... She sighed, as she began to once again follow Dodgson and Barnes... She was atleast hoping the base had comfty beds...

Maxwell sighs and slings his shotgun across his back. He then pulls out his S&W and readies a small emergency flashlight he packed in his backpack. "I'm prayin' that nothing's made itself at home in this building. Last thing I need is a raptor's claw rippin' open my guts...."
