Something tells me this doesn't bode well.
Scientists will be for it.
Some God - obsessed christians will get off their arses to fight against it. It'll be like Darwin's: Origin of Species all over again.
I'm all for it, but soon, these scientists will want to clone bigger and stronger and older things, which means: Yep, you guessed it. Dinosaurs. And I don't think many people would want massive rampaging Therapods slaughtering their local population. Even herbivores can be dangerous you know. Of course, some people will say: "But little beaked dinosaurs like Lylleanosaurus(sp?) or Protoceratops can't do any harm?"

Wrong.

They may not cause much physical harm, but these reptiles have a large appetite to fill. Combine this with the 'food crisis' and you get even less food to eat cause you've got to fork out a shedload of foliage to feed 3 dinos!
Which brings me neatly to my next point: Most of the food these dinosaurs would eat have, well, died out. Sure, you can give them ferns and mosses, but there won't be enough of that in the world. I don't think many people would want to travel to a forest at 6 in the morning to pick up thousands of small plants. It's back-breaking work!

There again, we might want to clone some earlier beasts, like Mammoths or (what's the giant deer called again?) Cave Bears. Even mammals like the Large shrew or the small deer.(Damn my memory! )

I find stuff like this really exciting, I mean, all through out primary school we were told how the mistakes of our ancestors meant that we would never ever see certain animals, to stop us from repeating them. Now we are going that one step further and rectifying the mistakes
Lets just hope they don't accidently reintroduce some species obliterating disease.

I disagree with both points. For the dinos running around eatting people, come on. Are you serious?
A) They wouldnt have access to humans, they would be treated like lions, in game reserves
B)Terrorising local people? A hill-billy armed with a shotgun could fend one off. Not to mention how easy it would be to give them a kill switch, like the electric collars some dogs have.

As for the food...

B)A hillbilly with a shotgun could fend one off. But 2-10? Or, unless this hillbilly is a good shot, he won't be able to stop a 40-50ft Rex coming at him at 20mph?

I heard about that, in a documentary where scientists were trying to retrieve dinosaur DNA from bird eggs. Coolz, I didn't knew that chicks have a small tail in the embryo!
It would be cool if they do so - I would come at school on the back of a T-Rex or with a pet raptor! Or maybe a pet spino, which I'd called, guess what, Spinax!

The thing is, they can probably only acquire DNA from mummified remains (like a mammoth), and even then scientists would have to have luck on their side. No dinosaur has been mummified beyond skin impressions, so dinosaurs are unlikely to be brought back to life. Prehistoric megafauna from 20,000 years ago, now that could be a reality (and a cool one at that! ).

Damn it, are you kidding me Doc? The whole point was that humans can't coexist, it can't happen, that's why it didn't... we're separated millions of years... just cause it was action packed, doesn't mean it doesn't have a meaning ( )

Oh yes, because the scientists will go "Lets clone 72 massive 40 foot long monsters from prehistoric times! And lets clone them in the middle of New York City, with only a padlock keeping them inside!"

They'd clone one or two, max, the air, climate, etc are different now, they probably couldn't survive outside of a specific environment (Created by the scientists).

Plus, if the two breed, whoop-de-f*cking doo? They'd end up inbreeding eventually, they'd probably starve from lack of sufficient food, and their offspring would be diseased because they were inbreeding.

Also, people think scientists are mentally disabled or something. Its VERY VERY VERY unlikely that they'd manage to lose a T-REX. Be realistic.

Besides that, I applaud what they are doing. Its furthering the science of genetic research, and we are able to study species that have been extinct for millions of years. No more debating about how a dinosaur looks or acts...

This is wonderful news! I hope that it will be possible for scientists to bring back animals like the Tasmanian tiger or the dodo...or even a Quagga! I would love to see those animals. As for dinosaurs, I would believe that scientists would start out small with them.

I'd rather say that, I wish this didn't happen. Ok, it's cool they resurrected an extinct animal, but then they're going to start getting carried away. The dinosaurs thing, might happen. I say this could either do great good or great harm. I just hope this new found knowledge will be used wisely and carefully.
