Vorhess glared at the Shifte, cocking his head to the right--a Batarian's way of showing that he was a superior. "Call me a creature again, pirate. I dare you."

"Not too many. these Plasma Grenades are expensive" responded Serephir as he ran for the lift, ordering everyone in...

"Don't tempt me, mercenary," Shifte spat back.
Naz'h sharply looked a warning at Shifte. Now was not the time.
The captain said to Vorhess, "Well?"

"Yeah, I can tell," Lissarkh replied, piling into the lift with Grievous and the commandoes. "I've set the timer remotely on the charges. They'll blow in about a minute, and take this whole place with them," Grievous said.

Vorhess crossed his arms. "You don't plan on selling the artifact we found, I presume?"

"No. We will research it, and store it," Naz'h replied.

"Store it?" Vorhess replied. "You better be leading us towards some major cash if I agree to this." "Yeah," Boortis added. "I'm not letting Santiago fire my a** over some hunch a bunch of pirates have."

"How much cash you get will depend entirely on you, and how long you stay with us. We're always looking for more allies, less enemies," Naz'h said mysteriously.

"I can't just join you on some crusade to find evidence of an alien civilization, especially if it isn't profitable," Vorhess said. "You'll need to talk to my boss, Vido Santiago. Maybe he can work out a deal."

as the lift reached the surface, Serephir ordered his men to the exit...

"Control, this is Eagle Alpha, We have a visual on an unidentified group of objects moving in close proximity, approaching the base. faint heat signature detected. scanners identify them as artificial, but not smoke or debris" came Eagle Flight's squadron leader, the V-35 roaring over the base at nearly twice the speed of sound, cleaning up what was left, a massive fiery, molten crater visible in the ground where the PSC had fired. "Can you get a lock on them?" questioned Control, back on the HVMS Fury. "Negative, control. Heat Signatures too small to pinpoint with the aftermath of the PSC" responded Eagle Alpha, the cockpit's HUD opening a window locking visually on the eaters. "spike it with a remote HE missile. if it's not living it's not native to the planet. the local sentience hasn't got a presence here. it's probably Covenent droids of some sort" responded the Fury. "Copy that control. weapons hot" said Eagle Alpha, the V-35 pulling up, choking the jet's engine for a few seconds as the craft flipped, going nose down over the eater swarm, a panel opening up under the craft's body, the missile launcher rolling out and engaging, the missiles split from the missile bay in a star shaped pattern, one missile dropping from the bay before roaring to life, streaking forward as the rocket bay rolled back into the jet's hull, sealing itself. "Missile away" said Eagle Alpha, as the missile hurtled at several times the speed of sound, arcing towards the eater swarm...

"Indeed? And where would I do that?" Naz'h asked. "On a side note, you would be sure to make much more profit with us then you ever will as a hired mercenary. We are backed and funded, by government organizations."

The swarm parted, the small bots dispersing to avoid the projectile, those too slow to react vaporized in the explosion, though some remained. The machines immediately chased after their attacker, even though they were vastly outpaced...

"What the...?" said Eagle Alpha, audible through the comm. "Control, i've confirmed the target is hostile. droids. a large number have survived. they've taken up an intercept trajectory" he said. "Copy that, Eagle Alpha. disengage and evade, Falcon-flight inbound for support" responded the Fury. "Acknowledged" responded Raptor Alpha, the craft's engines choked again as the ailerons flipped the craft, the engine once again roaring to full thrust, shooting off in the opposite direction, retreating from the bots. "Falcon Lead here, weapons hot, entering intercept trajectory. ETA 2 minutes" came Falcon-flight's squadron leader, a group of three V-25s en route, currently several kilometers away, having left combat as soon as the primary threat had ended. a second group, Hawk-flight was sent to intercept Ripa and his allies...

The swarm of machines, seeing their enemy disappear, broke off into small groups, returning to their previous objective: scouting the area...

as the two V-25s arrived, their advance targetting computers pinpointed the groups, clusters of remote plasma rockets being launched from the three jets as they passed overhead, the swarms and the areas around them being engulfed in clusters of blue explosions, vapourising anything within range, even chunks of the fortress' debris reduced to white hot molten slag, if not completely vapourised...

"For your information, pirate, the Blue Suns isn't just some hired merc group. We're professionals. We get paychecks. We do more than mercenary work." Vorhess cocked his head to the right again. "To talk to Santiago, we'll just have to wait until a Blue Suns ship arrives, which it should soon. We were calling them to pick us up when you showed up. They were unable to respond, thanks to this freighter's d*mn comm relay, but we know they got our message."

Grievous and Lissarkh followed Serephir out of the lift, trusting him to lead them to the dropship before the whole place was vaporized...

The Phantoms had already escaped into space, and into the hangar of a Covenant Stealth Corvette which drifted out from the other side of the planet, its cloaking technology even extending to the visual range, allowing the ship to escape unnoticed, though the tear in Slipspace it produced was no doubt picked up by both the TGDA and Vardian ships in the area.

"You're arrogance is unjustified, creature," Shifte said in disgust. "Fighting would be preferable," he said with contempt, eyeing his captain.
Naz'h said, "You tell us you're no ordinary group... and yet you continue to throw the word 'pirates' at us.
In any case, it would appear we have a dilemma. What species is your boss?"

"As far as I'm concerned, you ARE pirates," Vorhess replied. "And Santiago is a human. Normally, I'd be against that, but he knows what he's doing, and he was the one who had the idea of hiring Batarians in the first place."

Although the swarms were destroyed, they provided vital assistance in coaxing their enemies out. Already the machines worked to combat this aerial threat...

The ship flew over the city in the desert silently. On the horizon, pillars of spiralling sand made their way across the land, a distant wooshing being barely audible to the outside. It was completely silent inside the craft however. "So" Kystion asked. "Where am I putting this thing down, exactly...?"

Shifte allowed a disdainful look come across him as they said what species their leader was.
"Likewise, you are just more mercenaries, nothing more. What's the estimated time for Santiago's arrival?" Naz'h said.
