"My name is Red Claw, but you can call me Red," Red Claw had growled to the lion. She then asked, "what do they call you?"

"Nightbane" growled the lion in response. "I'd love to give you something easier, but there isn't much to simplify" he growled jokingly, continuing the guise of being relaxed. he smelled lions...several of them. and it wasn't the border. Checking the scents closest to him, he confirmed that Red was a loner. there were no other scents on her. no smell of cubs, other lionesses, or even another lion on her. "We have company" he growled as he glanced towards the source, noting the shadowy sillhouettes of the lions in the dark distance, his powerful nightvision, one of the reasons for his name, giving him a clear view of the predators. not far to the right he noted three other forms, or perhaps two with one strangely stretched, approaching the seven. "I suggest we leave" he growled. it wasn't normal for this many lions to converge during an invasion. usually only the leader of the pride, and the invaders would appear, but here, he saw no single lion...it was dangerous to stick around...

Redtail wisely held back behind Nightbane, watching the confrontation from the bushes. "Great idea," he said quietly...

Red Claw agreed with a frustrated growl. She sniffed the air, and smelt the scent of the pride. "Lets go now before they get to us," Red grunted.

Nightbane nodded, turning away from the predators, leaving them to mangle eachother, whatever the case for either side may be. he'd try and attack the pride in a few days...once the load of them had definately gone through the paces of whatever the outcome of the conflict would be. he'd be there soon enough to strike at the victors while they were weak, but late enough to avoid having to face both sides simultaniously....

not long after they had moved out of the territory, the treeline came into view, rich rainforest taking the place of the grasslands...the distant boom of thunder heralded the arrival of a storm....Nightbane's favourite kind of weather. the sun would be coming up soon, giving him the chance of seeing both the storm, and the dawn. as he walked, he glanced to the side at RedClaw. "Any particular reason you're called Red Claw? or was it a random spur of the moment decision?" he growled, only half joking. to his knowledge, lion claws were either white, creamy or black, depending on varying factors...so the prospect of a red-clawed lion bewildered him. at that moment the thought occured to him. what was with him and the colour red? he now had two tag alongs with Red in their name. the latter was more desirable than the former, being of actual use rather than a parasite which only wanted a share of whatever he killed....and one of his own species...the implications were interesting....though he set them aside for now. he could consider the possibilities later...for now, he wanted to get to know who it was exactly that he was walking with...

"Well, you see, i got this one claw that stands out from the others, it's red, longer and sharper, which helped me in all of my hunts," She growled and showed him her front paw. She felt somewhat proud of this, because she stood out from the rest of her old pride and family. "So, is it fine if I stay with you for a while? I don't got a territory, cause i've been on the run since my family died," She growled. She couldn't tell anyone that her family was killed, but she already told him about her brother, so it didn't really matter much more.

Nightbane eyed the single claw for a moment, before glancing at the lioness as she spoke. "I don't suppose there's any harm in that....i've been a magnet for loners wanting help hunting and protecting them...wouldn't be fair to turn you down" he growled with a smirk...

behind them, the roaring of several lions could be heard. the fight had broken out, and the lions were fighting viciously...just as Nightbane had hoped...

"Well, thanks for allowing me to stay with you, Night," she figured out how to shorten Nightbane's name, and felt good about it. Suddenly, she felt something sharp stab into her leg. Red moaned in pain as she realized it was a snake, so she turned and attacked it. The small snake dodged the attack, and went in for her neck.

Red Claw was hoping Nightbane would help her before it was too late, and hoped the snake wasn't venomous. She moved to the left just as the snake had lunged at her neck, causing it to miss and crash.

Redtail, more out of instinct rather than any attempt at heroism, lunged at the snake himself while it was distracted, crushing its skull in his jaws and killing it instantly. Chewing on the reptile, he made a face. "Ugh, snakes were never my favorite..."

as the snake lunged, Nightbane turned, almost swinging a paw into it, only to spot the jackal at the last minute, stopping himself to avoid killing Redtail by accident. "I hate snakes" growled the Lion irritably. he had been bitten by a certain king cobra not long ago....he may not have been poisoned by it, thanks to sheer luck....but that didn't make the experience any more pleasant. "We'd better get the wound washed...The last thing you want is for venom to set in" he added. glancing at Redtail, he growled "There should be alot of reasonably sized prey around here for you. you'd be better off alone. between two lions there isn't usually much left...especially with jungle prey"...

Redtail spat the dead snake out of his mouth, flattening his ears in annoyance. "Psh, you just want me out of your sight, I know it! You big carnivores have no respect for us scavengers!"

"Fact of the matter is, we're big, you're small. we're hungry, and normally you'd be food. when you go eating from my actual food, and not offering anything in return, you put yourself on the 'to eat' list. I think i'm being fair giving you a chance to leave before i accidentally chew you up in my sleep...don't you agree?" growled Nightbane with a smirk, joking with the jackal, though some truth existed in the words...

Redtail didn't seem amused. "I just killed a snake for your new friend there! If that's not helping, I don't know what is."

"Nightbane, why don't we let him stay with us for a few days? I mean, he did help me with that pest there," Red Claw growled, looking at the dead snake, now being eaten by ants. She was greatful that the jackal had saved her, and wanted to offer him something. But that was all she could offer him as she started limping to a nearby puddle.

Nightbane shrugged. "Snake repellent. fair enough....but like i said....don't blame me if you're missing a limb next time you wake up..." he growled. having the jackal tagging along for the last few days had irritated him. it had second guessed him when he was heading into the lion territory, disrupting his general lifestyle by trying to stop him at times. from here onwards, he decided to let the jackal follow, but nothing more...if there were scraps left, Redtail could have them. but he wouldn't wait for the jackal to finish. if he left, he left. he waited for no one...

Red Claw dipped her injured leg into the deep, relaxing puddle. She started to move her paw around slowly in the water and made some waves. Her leg injury was suriously, but not fatal, it was bleeding, and the fangs pierced deep through her flesh. She could hunt small or weak prey, but not strong prey. After a while of washing the blood off her leg, she went under a tree to rest.

"I'm glad we came to an understanding," Redtail replied. Chances are, he would leave pretty soon anyway, but until then, he made a mental note to sleep as far away from the lions as possible...

Nightbane walked over to the shade of a tree overhanging the puddle nearby, not particularly close to anyone, but near enough to be spoken to, the Lion laying on his side...

"I hope i don't die like the rest of my family did from being attacked," Red Claw had grunted to Nightbane, before lowing her head onto the soft, mushy soil. She checked her wound again to see if it was getting better before laying down, and watched her surroundings to, just before falling asleep.

"Bah. Don't be so negative. I got bitten by a snake a few days ago. bit me on the paw. yet here i am still walking around as healthy as can be. I'm sure you'll be fine" growled Nightbane, smiling reassuringly, trying to lighten the lioness' mood a bit...
