The combination of the swaying tail and the lack of vision worked in the Tyranids' favor, minimizing their losses with the inaccurate shot. Completely ignorant to the attacking arachnids, the remaining Tyranids succeeded in dismembering the tail, causing it to rip from the body of the Scorpion, plasma spilling out over the ground in great quantities...

The Scorpion Bug screeched in pain, charging blindly forward and into the Tyranid formation, bowling them over with the berserk attack. Flailing its claws indiscriminately, the Scorpion Bug smashed anything it touched, while the remaining Arachnids stayed at a distance, hiding around the corner and letting the furious Scorpion do its job...

The Tyranid shrieked in surprise, the survivors retreating back toward the rest of the group, which was now in sight. Venom cannons, barbed stranglers, deathspitters, and devourers began bombarding the raging scorpion, restricting its movement heavily, while the more destructive weapons melted away its thick hide. The Scorpion had, as well, crippled itself further, its frantic charge causing the Mawloc holding onto its leg to completely rip the limb away...

The Scorpion Bug soon died, but not without a fight. A Warrior was clutched in one claw, crushed nearly in half, while the now-dead Mawloc corpse dangled from the other...

The Tyranids moved toward the Scorpion's corpse and beyond slowly, knowing that there were warriors that had yet to be dealt with...

Meanwhile, on the surface, the group of Tyranids were now deep into arachnid territory...

The plasma bombardment on the surface Tyranids continued unabated, taking their toll on enemy numbers...

The Arachnid force had since retreated deeper into the hive, leading their foes deeper into enemy territory...

The group, composing of only gaunts and a Zoanthrope, was too small for the enemy to hit accurately from such range, though they were exposed. The Zoanthrope's massive psychic consciousness made the Hive Mind's presence in the area very strong, thus cutting off any psychic messages going in and out of the area, unintentionally preventing the Recon Bugs from mentally informing their allies of their location...

The Recon Bugs continued to relay information pheromonally. It was slow, but it at least made sure to keep the Tyranids focused on the omnipresent threat of an incoming plasma ball falling from the sky...

Many Arachnids were mobilizing underground now, this particular group focused more on the surface Tyranids that would be passing right above them...

The Zoanthrope could senses the life force of their foes beneath the ground...although it could not determine how many or what kinds they were, it knew they were there. The gaunt swarm stopped, moving north rather then continuing forward, trying to find a way with less resistance...

The hive, bustling with activity, seemed to be everywhere at once. Swarms of Arachnids poured through the widened tunnels, searching out their prey like hunting dogs. Several groups concentrated beneath the surface Tyranids' position, trying to move them away from the center of the hive...

Sassk appeared in the med-bay, herding Guidance along. Grievous turned to the pair and nodded. "Guidance, I presume?" He turned back to Serephir and added, "Take this Geth with you. I don't want it on my planet."

The Zoanthrope continued to guide its brood toward the smaller concentrations, expecting a trap at any moment. Underneath, the Tyranids began to mobilize carefully, Raveners on the prowl to make sure there weren't any surprises nearby...

"The same! And you must be-" the small machine began, before finally noticing just what it was talking to. "Remarkable! Another sentient machine!" it proclaimed, hovering quickly around the General, a shimmering beam extending from its central "eye", scanning over various parts of the cyborg...

"I am a cyborg, thank you," Grievous replied, trying to keep the little robot from invading his personal space. At the same time, the Covenant Engineer floated in, having followed Sassk and Guidance. The construct hung back, watching the exchange keenly...

The Rippler swarm high above began to thicken, and the plasma bombardment came much faster and harder the deeper the Tyranids dared to tread while on the surface, threatening to blast them out of oblivion before the Arachnids even attempted a full-scale assault...

More Arachnids swarmed the tunnels, making it more and more dangerous for the Tyranids underground, and it wasn't long before another tide of Arachnid Warriors, frenzied and angry, charged down the tunnel towards them...

A barrage of ranged fire was sent at the warrior swarm, melting limbs, jaws, and other body parts in the hail of corrosive materials. Barbed stranglers restricted their ability to get close, making them easy prey for the incoming fire...

"Also quite remarkable!" the machine corrected, ignoring the General's attempts to move away from it...

The tide of Warriors didn't let up, absorbing the enemy fire and tearing through the tentacles of the Barbed Strangler, some Arachnids falling inches at the Tyranids' feet.

Grievous groaned inwardly, but before he could speak further, Mendicant Bias cut in. "Fascinating! I haven't seen an Artificial Construct of this type in centuries!"

The Hive Tyrant reared its head back before lunging forward, releasing a giant blob of bioplasma from its horrific maw. The blobs slammed into the oncoming warriors, obliterating those in the front with throwing any nearby creatures back into their companions, causing a tangle of arachnids, delaying them. A few seconds later, the ceiling, loosened by the blast, caved in, pouring a massive quantity of dirt and rock into the tunnel, separating the two forces...

Guidance switched his attention to the other machine, noticing the striking similarities between the two. "Astounding! Are you a product of the Makers as well?" the machine asked happily, a bright blue color appearing around its central "eye", showing its happiness...

"The... Makers? If you mean the Forerunners, then yes!" Mendicant replied cheerfully.

The Arachnids temporarily retreated. While they could easily dig through the rubble, it was more entertaining to toy with these new foes...

Serephir eyed the two drones curiously. he was surprised by the existence of one with that information, but two? this was too convenient. "You wouldn't happen to have information on the portal to the Ark, would you?" he asked Guidance...

Guidance's fields changed to a dull gray color, showing confusion. "Forerunners? Ark? We..." it began, its eye seeming to fade out as it searched its internal databases. "Ah, yes! Forerunners! One of our favorite subjects." it stated cheerfully, though it didn't say anything about the Ark...

"....And the Ark?" inquired Serephir, somewhat surprised that it failed to mention anything, confirmation or otherwise, about it...

"Ah, you know of my Makers!" Mendicant replied, happy that there was finally another A.I. to speak with. "Please tell me, who are your Makers?"
