"They were beaten by f**king MERCHANTS?!" Jaroth shouted, throwing the datapad at his subordinate, a human Commando, who cringed as the datapad hit him in the head. "Gah! Well, uh, sir, yeah, that's what we got from Morleon's status reports in the logs." Jaroth inhaled deeply, trying to control his rapidly-fraying temper. The Salarian had decided to make a surprise inspection of Morleon's work only moments ago, only to discover that their secret base not only had its front door buried under a pile of rubble and blown open, but the false distress beacon had been disabled, and nearly every single person was missing, leaving only the wreckage of dozens of mechs, and a few bodies: every Salarian Eclipse merc (including Captain Morleon) and the body of one of the attackers. From what had been gleaned from Morleon's status report before the whole station had gone quiet, they had been attacked by a virtual army. "Are you telling me," Jaroth continued slowly, gritting his teeth, "that an entire godd*mn army of these a**holes had, for some reason, entered the Terminus Systems and attacked a seemingly abandoned mining facility on a minor Batarian colony that just so happened to have my men?" The Commando nodded mutely, well-aware that Jaroth knew the whole story of what had happened, just like him: the trap had simply gone awry by luring in someone who was obviously important to these merchants. Jaroth sat down, looking out of the viewport of the ship he was in. He had far more important things on his mind. "So... he called in the Collectors to help?" The Commando nodded again. Jaroth arched a brow. "And they DID?" The Commando merely shrugged. "They must have had some interest in the merchants or something..." Jaroth shook his head. "They stole EVERY body, including ours, except the Salarians. They only left one merchant body, obviously as a clue as to who attacked us. They must have wanted the humans..." The Commando swallowed nervously, and Jaroth smirked at the man's sudden fear. "What? Don't like the idea of 'alien abduction?'" Jaroth snorted. "Calm down, you d*mn coward. They're working WITH us, not against us. They just stole the corpses. It's not that big a deal..." Jaroth stood again, cupping his chin thoughtfully. "What concerns me the most is the Cerberus data. You're saying it was all erased?" The Commando nodded. "Y-yes sir. I think the merchants stole it." Jaroth smirked, suddenly pleasantly surprised. "Well, I guess we don't have to worry about having to deal with them anymore, then. They're the merchants' problem now..."
