Aviva landed on a jutting spur of rock, keeping her wings outstretched and raising them slightly instead of folding them at her sides. She had entered Extraxl territory a few minutes ago, and was hoping to see some of her kind before long. She wasn't disappointed. Before long, she spotted a glimmer of deep blue in her peripheral vision, and was soon looking at a familiar face. "Aviva!" the blue dragon growled happily, the green fins on his head and back glinting. His violet eyes seemed to glow. "It truly has been too long." She couldn't help but smile back, even though there was a sudden ache in her chest. "Ren. So good to see you," she replied, taking off from her perch and joining him in flight. "I've missed you," Ren growled, falling in at her side as she headed for a fairly large cave carved into the mountainside by centuries of the beatings the elements gave. "I've missed you too, but this isn't a personal visit," the black dragoness growled. "I'm here to see Ruuva and Nex." "You'll wait a while, I'm afraid," Ren warned. "They're out hunting." "That's not a problem. I need to catch up with everyone anyway." She caught his smile at that and the glance he gave her. Her heart clenched painfully. She knew that before she left, he'd been hoping that she would choose him as her mate. Male Extraxl were smaller than females, and it was the females who engaged in fights over desirable mates. But Aviva just wasn't drawn to Ren in the way that he was drawn to her. That was part of the reason she'd left - she wanted to see the world, but she also couldn't bear to break her best friend's heart. Now, home again after these years, and seeing him again, she wondered how in Loessa's name she was going to manage to avoid his hopeful advances. And how she was going to break it to him.
