Several heavy boots thumped through the jungle. The shadow slunk closer.
"hold fast!"
the lead figure's arm shot up, the rest stopped in their tracks.
A few insects buzzed close by. A high pitched cough sounded from behind.
"Shut up DoorKnock"
"Sorry sir, it's these damned trees"

Durka Spoon touched the puddle of blood and rubbed his fingers together. Badai blood tended to get very sticky when exposed to air, this blood hardly stuck at all. They were close.

The shadow swept it's gaze across the studded leather armoured figures: 8 of them, spears, javelins and crossbows.

"It's close, everyone fan out, watch your buddies"
The badai hunting party spread out carefully. Everyone had another badai watching their back, and were charged with watching some one else's. The screech of a gigantic bird over head, made them crouch. Durka gazed up into the towering trees, watching the few patches of speckled light shining through the canopy, trying to spot the bird. Nothing.

He began moving forward, arm shooting out instinctively to grab an insect, killing it with the blow. Filthy blood suckers. He watched where it had coming from, spotting a cloud of other blood suckers buzzing about. He narrowed his eyes, moving forward, jumping onto a tree root. He grimaced. The insects were covering a horrific mess of blood, entrails and limbs: other wise known as Thunkity Bunk, or what was left of him at least. He stepped forward, trying to shoo the insects, when a scream pierced the air. He shot around, seeing a spray of blood and the sound of fabric and bone being slashed apart.

He ran back, leaping over the root and rolling onto one knee on the other side, drawing his axe. A bolt whistled through the air, thunking into a tree, right where the beast had been moments before. The huge cat like monster landed 2 meters away, is long rope like tail flowing through the air behind it. The pitch black beast's lips peeled back in a snarl. DingDong charged forward, trying to ram his spear into it's chest. The cat batted him away easily, it's huge paw crushing into his side and catapulting him into a tree with a sickening crunch. Durka Spoon ran forward, shouting loudly and raising his axe. He jumped over Betlot's body, 3 long channels slashed through her chest waist and head, one of them erasing her nose completely. The cat crouched, it's huge long tail curling up behind it as it got ready to pounce. Suddenly a bolt whistled over Durka's shoulder, thwacking into it's shoulder. It grunted and flinched in pain, the bolt having rammed right through it's thickhide. The timing was perfect. Durka closed the last half meter and slid to the ground, swinging his axe right through it's shin. As much of an advantage as the cat's size gave it, it had underestimated the force a Bada could summon into their arms. The steel blade sliced right through it's leg, severing the limb. It howled out in pain, collapsing in a tangle of fur and claws. Durka raised his buckler, the creatures leg hammering into it and shattering it, sending splinters scouring across his face. He fell to the ground, his arm aching. DoorKnock ran forward with his pike and tried to stab it into the cat's chest. Durka screamed out for him to stop. Doorknock paused, giving him a confused glance, just before one of the cat's paws swung into his back, claws puncturing into his flesh and dragging him backwards. The beast pulled him close to it's chest, clutching him with all of it's remaining paws before hatefully biting down. Durka could only watch as the cat rolled over, so it's back was facing him, Doorknock disappearing in a trail of blood over it's side, a loud crunch following. Two more bolts whistled into it. It contorted in pain, rolling onto it's feet, standing awkwardly, blood matting it's fur. A bloody shape was seen being thrown away as it stood up. Durka got to his feet and raised his axe. The creature's head darted around, amber eyes fixed on him. From outside it's view, Doughnut charged forward, lancing his spear right into it's chest, piercing through it's hide and into the cat's lung. It screamed out, falling back towards Durka, who quickly brought his axe down on the side of it's head, smashing through it's cheek bone and lodging in it's face. It contorted, shaking violently as Doughnut repeatedly stabbed his spear into it's chest.

At long last, the monster fell still, dust still settling on the leafy floor. Trap approached them her crossbow still raised. "It's gone boss" Durka sighed, pulling his axe out of it's head and turning to her. Her face was covered in blood, drops collected at the end of the brown hair sticking out from under her cap. He paused and asked "Hell... are you ok?" She looked confused for a moment before following his gaze and putting a hand to her cheek. Then she realised, and shook her head, pointing towards Betlot's eviscerated body. The spray of blood had been so violent as to soak Trap, who was almost 80 cm away. Durka nodded, glancing around

"Dingdong?"

Drikidik replied "He's breathing, shoulder's dislocated and he's still unconscious but he should be ok"

Durka nodded, surveying the bloody carnage around them. "Go get Bunk, Betlot and Doorknock... Doughnut, rope the Lyze"
The team nodded and moved about, collecting the dead, Doughnut stabbing hooks into the cat's limbs, preping it to be dragged back to camp.

Jungle duty was one of the most dangerous details around, but it had to be done. Lyze were only one of the many dangerous creatures preying on the camp.

"Interesting. well then, If there are no other little details you'd like to inform me about this trial, i will finish moving my belongings to the room. First one on the left on the second floor landing, by the way" said Andruil with a satisfied nod...

"Eh, should I wake him up?" the injured soldier said, while a doctor replied, "go ahead." Matt began to shake the unconscious marksman awake, while everyone else went back to what they were doing...

"Just a few things." A grin flashed across Vix's face. "If you want that politician, be fast. Brionna and Lailoken both have a bone to pick with him. In essence, it's a race. First one to him gets the rights to maim him as much as they like, or just to kill him quickly. Bring weapons that are light and be sure you're able to use them quickly." She shrugged. "That's really it."

Eying Vix for a moment, Andruil set one of the rolls of cloth on a chair to his side, before wrapping a finger around the grip of his sword, pulling it free and flicking it into the air, the blade flipping tip over pommel three times before coming down blade first, being caught by the grip by Andruil, who then proceeded to flip the weapon in his fingers, holding the grip towards Vix. "This should be adequate, yes?" he asked...

"Oi, stranger wait up!" The watch tower guard called out behind Desrium. He stopped and turned around, watching the guard work his way through the crowd of people that was slowly disbanding. "Oh good, you stopped" He said when he reached the armored figure. His dialect was different from that of the other guards. His voice was deep but he tended to drag or shorten syllables. "What is it?" Desrium asked, somewhat irritably. He expected the man to tell him about how much he didnt trust him, or call him demon or some other name he'd only understand a few moments later. "I like how you handle yerself, lad" The guard said. "Ya' look as strange as a walking fish, but I like how you handle yerself. My name Is Urlox, whats yers?"
"Desrium" The armored being replied. It was the first time he was complimented by a human. "Well Dezzy, Im sure you'll like this fine little place. Just dont get on the council's bad side- thats never a good thing- and you'll be fine here-" Urlox said, looking over Desrium's shoulder a split second later. "Oh goodness..." He said, his voice low and his head shaking. Desrium turned his head, seeing a young boy stagger towards him, only sixteen years of age. He was wearing a white long sleeved shirt and a brown fur vest and dark brown pants. His hair was a dark red color, his skin was fair and his eyes were green. He was carrying three retangular wooden boxes, which were appearantly heavy. He was leaning to and fro trying to keep his balance and his arms were trembling. With a sigh, Urlox stepped around Desrium, putting his hand out. He stopped the boy in his tracks and swiftly removed two of the boxes, setting them on the ground before grabbing the boy’s shoulder and helping him regain his balance. "Scioux!" Urlox exclaimed. "What're you doin' boy!?"
"I wanted to look strong and show you that I am like the like council members and the guardians!-" Scioux said, only to have Urlox say "Boy, swayin’ back and fourth under a heavy load with yer arms a-shakin’ doesn’t make you look strong! It makes you look stupid!”
“But!-“
Urlox sighed and said “I know you mean well lad, but you still need to do some growin’, and to a much greater extend, the training, before you can even hope to be part of the council!”
“But Urlox, I really think I can do it!” Scioux said adamently. “I never said anythin’ against you joinin’ the council lad, but give it a few years and enjoy your youth boy! You’ve got a lot to look forward to that you wont see anything that’s right infront of ya’!” Urlox replied. “So how about you set that box down and go show our guest here around the village?” Scioux bowed his head and said “Ok Urlox” He put the box down on the other two and looked to Desrium, who was standing silently behind Urlox. “That wont be nessecary” Desrium said to the guard. “I will manage on my own” Urlox started laughing. “Nonsense! I wont have you wandering Daaven aimlessly! The boy will show you around the place, right Scioux?”
“Uh…” Scioux stammered. “If you insist” Desrium said simply, walking off. “But Urlox!” Scioux said in hushed tones. “Your sending me off with a stranger? Are your eyes still working!?”
“It will be ok lad, he doesn’t mean any harm. And besides, think of it this way, you’ll be showin’ how strong you are by takin’ on the job, so what do ya’ say?”
“Ok…I guess” Scioux said, before following after the armored stranger

"Should be," Vix said, eying the sword appreciatively. "We start tomorrow; the others arrive just after dawn." Arsenic laughed. 'Oh, I'll enjoy kicking those scumbags outside awake.' "Don't damage the merchandise I worked so hard to get, Arsenic," Rowan chided as she walked back into the room. "Man those guys don't shut up!" she exclaimed, rubbing her temples. "I swear, my ears must be bleeding. The women wailing about how they didn't do anything wrong and turning on the waterworks as if that'll get them out of their chains. And the men shouting I'll get what's coming to me. Ugh. I've heard it a thousand and ten times. It's getting old." 'Don't have a heart attack over it, Rowan,' Arsenic said, grinning at her. 'This time tomorrow, they'll be dead.' The black-haired woman brightened. "This is true."

"When cornered, a person will say anything to get free. It's one reason why torture isn't reliable" said Andruil as he sheathed the blade, picking up the roll of cloth before nodding to the trio. "I'll be upstairs if i'm needed" he said, before heading up the stairs to his room...

The servant rests, but feels anxiety eating away at him. He can't betray his king and wait. He had to get this done as soon as possible! Unable to contain the feeling, the servant gets out of his rest, makes sure his horse is okay, and heads towards where the guild hall was. I hope this is worth it, the servant says...

Some time passed after Desrium left to explore the settlement. It was a nice, festive place. Wooden buildings on either side of the cobblestone path, the path itself branching off every few yards. One store in particular was just a small shack. There were seats set up infront of it and window running across the length of the wall. At the bottom of the window was a long stretch of wood that served as a table. Hanging from the roof were shimmering azure decorations, made from some type of rock, and against the interior wall was a rack of assorted drinks. The store keep was a bartender and chef, serving drinks and food with extravagent and downright unessecary displays, from flipping bottles end over end and catching them to making large plumes of fire leap up from his stove, somehow not burning the place to the ground. On one stretch of the path was a band of performers, the majority of them playing some strange instruments. One instrument had a long wooden handle with strings running down it and a bulbous end that rested on the ground, making a deep reverberating sound. Another was a flute like instrument that made a high pitched wavering tune. All the while, both Desrium and Scioux had been silent. "You can leave anytime you want" Desrium said finally when he came to a sparsely crowded area. There was hardly anyone on the broad path. "I wont mind" Scioux, who's gaze was on the floor jumped up to the armored figure, seeing his head turned slightly and part of his red eye. It sent chills down his spine. "Be strong" He thought. "A council member is strong. A council member wouldnt be scared" He cleared his throat and said in a forced deep voice "Ill stay. Urlox told me to do something and Ill do it. Ill have to be used to taking orders if I want to be part of the council" Desrium turned his head straight, seemingly done talking, but then he started to chuckle, the sound barely audible to the boy. "Didnt Urlox also tell you to give the council thing a rest?" Desrium asked. “Well…yes but…” Scioux began to say, searching his mind for a retort but finding none. “Relax, Scioux” Desrium said. “I too have… an aspiration” He added soon after. “Did…his eyes just glow?” The boy asked himself. He shook his head before asking “Really? What is it, other than…wandering and…the other things you travellers do?”
“To do good” Desrium replied. “To do…good” Scioux repeated. “Do good in what?”
“In life” Desrium answered. Scioux raised an eyebrow, not sure what to say to that. “Why do you want to be part of the council so badly?” Desrium asked. Scioux stammered a bit, so much things coming to mind. He calmed himself a moment later, taking a deep breath and organizing his thoughts. “I want to do it because I know I can do it! The council upholds peace and justice in Daaven and in a few surrounding areas. While giant stretches of land are ruled by tyrants and fanatics, this small territory and its neighbors believe in popular sovereignity- majority rules, power of the people. Things like that. While they give people a voice, they also give them strength. The council and the guardians are the protectors of our system, fighting off those that wish us harm. That’s what I want to be part of! Its what my father would have wanted!-“ Scioux suddenly fell quiet. Desrium didn’t say anything for a few moments, his eyes flashing as he gained insight on the concept of family. “Father…” Desrium thought. He thought about the voice he heard before. “What…what happened to your father?” Desrium asked. He stopped walking and turned to look at the boy. “No body knows. He went off into the forest one day and…never came back”
“Im sorry to hear that. At least you have your mother…” Desrium said, but Scioux only shook his head. “She died during child birth…somehow I lived” He looked to the floor while Desrium put his hands behind his head, dumbfounded as to what he should say. Was there anything he could say? “Its not all bad though” Scioux added after a short pause. “Urlox took me in after my father disappeared. He was his best friend back then. He was already part of the council when I was young, and I always looked up to him. But lately, I cant help but feel as if he looks down on me…pities me even. My father wanted me to be strong, and I will be. In time, Ill show Urlox just how strong I am, and become something my father will be proud of and help support our way of life!” Desrium simply looked at the boy, putting his hands down before saying “How meaningful. You’re a lucky boy”
“Why?” Scioux asked, raising an eyebrow again.
“You already know your mission, your life’s goal. I only know that I wish to do good” Desrium replied. “Ill be sure to tell Urlox that you have been an able guide next time I see him. Your free to do what you want” He added before walking off. Scioux only stared after him, thinking ”I didn’t guide you at all…”

Vix nodded, acknowledging Andruil's words, before turning to Rowan and Arsenic. "He seems like he'll do well enough," she said. Arsenic inclined his head, pale golden eyes flicking from one woman to the other. 'True. He handled himself well today, and has proven he'd likely be a valuable asset to the guild. But those people are going to be desperate, and reckless, by the time we set them loose for the iniciates. This is a different kind of test, as you know, and I sincerely hope he'll be ready for anything when the time comes.' Rowan put in, "In any case, we can't be sitting around talking about it like this. Shall I inform the others that there will be one more joining them?" "No," Vix said, heading for the kitchen. "They'll find out tomorrow. The surprise will do them good; make them more anxious to prove themselves."

The servant approaches the door to the guild. He takes a deep breath, out of obvious nervousness. He takes another and raps on the door......

The three inside froze in surprise at the knock. Rowan turned a startled blue gaze on Vix. Arsenic's now-deep green eyes narrowed slightly. The auburn-haired woman altered her course and made for the door, opening it with a puzzled yet curious expression. "Um...yes?" she said, cocking her head, loose wavy hair falling forward over her shoulder, obscuring one pointed ear.

"I'm afraid you are mistaken," Vix said with a small smile. "This is an inn." Behind her, Arsenic reached into his jacket lining and pulled out one of his metal slivers, thumbing the tip to check its sharpness out of habit. Something didn't feel right...

Arsenic pulled out a vial of a clear substance that glittered iridescent green when the light struck it at just the right angle. Keeping his eyes fixed on Vix, he dipped the tip of the metal into it. "Quite sure, sir," the green-eyed elf woman said, winding a lock of hair around her finger. "Perhaps the guild hall you seek is elsewhere in our village."

The servant stood there for a couple moments before he took his hood down.

"Please, let me into the guild. I've come to this place before...... do you remember the man who came and gave the plans for the king's assassination?"

Vix felt her eyes widen. "Oh...yes, I remember you...the one who brought us the prince's orders to assassinate your king for his own gain." She glanced over her shoulder and, with the hand that wasn't holding the door open, made a slight hand sign. In seconds, the vial full of venom and the metal sliver were back in Arsenic's short-sleeved jacket.

The servant lowers his head and half kneels.

"Please.... my leige, the one you know as prince Draco, is no longer one. He has been crowned king. I know firsthand just how terrible his wrath is. He sent me here to investigate this place and return to him if there were any plots to kill him, but..... my concious has been gnawing at me. How could I serve such a monstrous man? I.... I don't know what to do...... I don't know who to turn to...... my world is being rended apart by the feelings of duty and morality......"
