Riley soon enters the monorail as the last of the mercs get in, starting up inside rather than taking a seat in the center car...

Hiero made one last sweep of the room to be sure before heading back over to the tram and getting inside, he made his way over to Barnes and quietly said, "Turns out there was something in that upturned locker, I think we've stumbled into a nest. But I don't think mentioning this to the suite is in our interests for survival, If people would go to great legths to portect their loved ones how far would these creatures go?"

One or two of the females let out quiet hisses from their vantage points, eyes flashing, muscles quivering with the urge to attack. Those two-leggeds were too close to one of their nests. Much too close. One female edged forward slowly, flexing her hand claws as her lips pulled back from her sharp teeth.

"A nest?" Barnes said. "A nest of wha--" He abruptly looked down at the papers in his hand and frowned. Were they Utahraptor eggs? Maybe, maybe not. By this point, though, they didn't have much choice in the matter. They didn't have time to walk to the research base before nightfall, and who knew what was waiting for them in the darkness? Barnes sighed. "Make sure everyone's saddled up, Masaki. I'm going to have a chat with Dodgson."

Dodgson, seeing that everyone was aboard, hit a switch. The metal creaked and groaned in protest as the wheeled front car began moving forward, confined to the metal trackway, dragging the rest of the cars with it. It started off slow and jerky, the machines having not been used in months, but it began to loosen up and move at a steady, if somewhat sluggish, pace. The cockpit had only a large windshield to protect the driver from the elements, allowing Barnes to carefully climb across the cars and into the one Dodgson was occupying. "What can you tell me about the animals that live in this canyon, Mr Dodgson?" Dodgson didn't take his eyes off the controls as he spoke. "Not much. In fact, there aren't supposed to be any. The large amount of human activity in the canyon during the project was such that most dinosaurs avoided the area. Something may have made a home here in recent months, but it's unlikely." "We saw a nest in the station back there," Barnes replied. "Believe me, it's very likely..."

The pack's alpha let out a quiet hiss at the females, then carefully climbed up the rocky outcropping, using his powerfully muscled legs to hop and climb. Peeking his feathered head over the top, he had the perfect view of the incoming human contraption, and the perfect ambush spot...

Persephone stayed in her seat, the Westpoint graduate tried desperately to not look tired, but as ahrd as she tried, she just couldn't stay fully alert. But there was something else in the depths of her mind, information on Dinosaurs that had been banished into the dark crevices of her mind long ago that was now coming back to her...

Rick suddenly became more alert when he heard Hiero mention that there had been a nest in the building they had just been in. He had also noticed Barnes looking at the papers about the research of the Utahraptors and a thought entered his mind: Was the building they were in the territory of Utahraptors and if they did indeed live in the building, were there more living in the canyon itself?

OOC: Okay one thing at a time people I never, NEVER, said Hiero had actually taken the eggs nor did either I or Dino speak about it or of the Speices OUT LOUD for everyone to hear but suddenly everyone knew? Can we please fix this because we all kinda took a step too far

"I left the eggs alone sir Dodgson should probobly be told but we shouldn't mention the eggs or he might insist on taking them," whispered Hiero quietly to Barnes.

OOC: Calm down, RT. I have seen no mention of the eggs being taken, but Gira, you probably should edit your post. Barnes and Dodgson are talking privately about the nest, but haven't said anything out loud about them being potentially Utahraptor eggs.

"Now why would I take dinosaur eggs?" Dodgson asked, having overheard Hiero. "There have been eggs all over this island belonging to innumerable dinosaur species for the last five years. I see no reason to disturb a nest of any animal, predator or otherwise." "Masaki, take a seat," Barnes growled. "That's an order. Mr. Dodgson and I will be discussing this privately."

Hiero may have had plenty of reasons for disliking Dodgson but at least he wasn't dumb enough to try and take them. Hiero then noticed the fornt window pane wasn't reenforced with metal slats or cross sections, not even some electrified wire. Hiero sat down but he kept his galil in reach, he had a bad feeling very few creatures leave their offspring unattended.

Persephone yawned as her mind wandered back to when the Tyrannosaurus attacked the group. The individual that had attacked them seemed rather large... perhaps it was a female T-rex? Persephone shook her head lightly to force the notion out of her head. Although she knew of Sexual Dimorphim arguments for T-re, she herself highly doubted them... but right now, that didn't matter...

Barnes shook his head and looked back out the viewport, then paused. The carts had begun to move along a short ridge with a shallow slope leading down on the left side. "Uh... Dodgson?" Dodgson looked up from the console and arched a brow curiously, only to follow Barnes pointing finger down the slope.

Covering the dusty ground at the bottom of the slope was at least a dozen, possibly more, mounds of dirt and vegetation, each filled with five or six eggs each. A number of boulders and outcrops provided excellent lookout points for the eggs' protectors, as well as shade for the nests themselves. "Alright, Lieutenant Barnes, I agree. There is definitely something here." "What do we do?" "Keep moving. The last thing we want is to disturb a nest of potential predators." "Potential?" "I can't tell what species these are from this distance, but there are only a few dinosaurs who nest like this. The problem is, they could be herbivores or carnivores. It's best to just avoid them if we can." "I'll tell everyone else," Barnes said, turning to head into the cargo transport...

The Alpha male continued to watch carefully as the carts began to pass the nesting site. If they were really egg robbers, it wouldn't take long to find out...

"What the ****?" David muttered to Jacob. He was peeking out from the spaces in the cargo crates, catching sight of the nests scattered about the base of the slope the train was going down. He had to fight the urge to embed his face into the palm of his hand. "Nests!?" He said. Despite it being a whisper, there was a tone of bewilderment. "The ******* are breeding on their own and they made nests where this island's staff would have worked!? They didnt secure facillities with some sort of perimeter? No wonder **** hit the fan!" He went on to say, shaking his head

Persephone looked out the window of the Cart, the woman catching sight of the nests. There was something odd about how the nests were arranged, something that was nudging t the back of her mind, but she just didn't know what...

Hiero's unease grew at the site of the nests below, "The noise from this tram will draw them like a wailing siren, and if they belong to large creatures they may try to attack the tram," he said.

Maxwell too becomes uncomfortable about the discovery of nests so clsoe to them. "Ah, ****... I'm prayin' to whatever diety's up there right now that whatever owns those nests doesn't plan on hunting any time soon..."

Rick too saw the nests below and his heart rate began to quicken with unease. A nest had been in one of the lockers back at the building and now there were more nests in the canyon. Were they perhaps moving through the territory of Utahraptors and if so, would the raptors be hunting them for unknowingly entering their territory? The merc didn't know, but he hoped that if those were indeed utahraptor nests, that the owners wouldn't pursue them even once the group was out of the persumed territory...

This didn't make any sense, Barnes thought. Dodgson had said there were no dinosaurs in this canyon during the tram's operation, simply because of the amount of human activity. And yet they were already nesting here? Either the dinosaurs had planned this (a highly unlikely scenario), or whoever had caused the lack of communication also got rid of the staff in a real hurry, and the animals had taken this territory over in the last six months. Not a good thing...

Even as Barnes moved into the cargo cart, in the midst of orders to stay quiet, someone stood up. Stanley's eyes were no longer blank and distant, but filled with blind rage, as if the mere sight of the eggs had rekindled the memory of Johnson's death. "Oh sh--" Barnes said, moving forward to try and stop the man. Stan suddenly screamed, raising his pistol and firing wildly at the nests, bullets throwing up plumes of dust and shattering eggs into splinters of yolk-soaked eggshell. THe gunshots echoed over the open canyon, drowned out by Stan. "You're gonna pay for what you did, you scaly ********!" he shouted, even as his clip ran out and he continued to fire the empty gun. As Stan fumbled spasmodically to reload the firearm, Barnes was already shouting, "Restrain him, now!" The man would have done it himself, if he didn't have to pause as he saw something move over the rocky outcropping they were moving towards...

The Alpha's eyes widened as the eggs seemed to explode at the sound of thunderous booms and frightening flashes of light from the machine that held the humans. Seething with rage, the male Deinonychus jumped to the very top of the rock and reared up, flaring his blood-red feathers and letting out a loud screech, ordering his packmates to attack the humans, and make them pay for the transgression...

Riley threw himself at Stan without a warning, hitting his hand and knocking the pistol out of it. The merc quickly grabbed him by the arms and tried to pull him away from the where the firearm had landed while shouting, "somebody help me!"

Maxwell runs over to aid Riley in retraining the man, grappling Stan around the torso and kicking the pistol towards Barnes' feet. "God dammit, Stanley! Now those f**kers know we're here!"

Persephone, without a second though, also got up, but seeing that she was a little too late to help restrain the man, sat back down. Her mind right now was a constant message board of information, sorting together bits and pieces of Dinosaur books she had read... until her eyes widened with fear. She recognized now just what was so odd about the way the nests were shaped... They reminded her of fossilized raptor nests... and judging from the size of the eggs, they were probably Utahraptor eggs... Eggs from raptors the size of Polar Bears....
