Rick got up when Barnes gave the order to move out. While standing up, he reached down and took the flashlight that was secured to his belt. He didn't like to think about the research base not having power, but seeing how things had been going, that possibility didn't seem to be far off...

As the group continued through the darkening forest, Barnes occasionally shined his rifle-mounted torch up at the trees, seeing dark, four-winged shapes glide between the branches in U-shaped swoops. More Microraptors, most likely, a guess confirmed by the unique chittering and chirping the creatures made. It was hard to consider them dinosaurs, considering how birdlike--and harmless--they were. Then again, Barnes was sure that not EVERY animal on this island was out to get them...

By the time they had made it the full quarter-mile, Barnes could barely see the game trail they were walking along. As he pushed quietly between some bushes, he nearly ran into a metal wall that abruptly appeared before him. Stumbling back in surprise, he cursed. "Jesus. Nearly knocked myself out..." He shined the light over the wall, which seemed to extend beyond easy sight in either direction. However, at the gap formed by the game trail, he saw that there was a doorway. It was fairly large; more than likely, it was a garage of some sort. Moving his light along the featureless metal door he saw some handles along the bottom edge, all evenly spaced, as well as a small keypad and card slot along the right edge. The light on the device was off. "I guess there isn't any power after all. Dodgson, you have an ID card or something we can test there? Just to make sure." Dodgson nodded, shifting through his coat's inside pocket and producing a plastic card, like a credit card, in his hand. Moving carefully to the device, he swiped his card through the designated slot. Nothing happened, and Dodgson shrugged. "I have top priority clearance here. It should have worked if there was--" Suddenly, he heard a beep, and the light on the swiper came on, glowing a bright green, as did a large screen next to the keypad. "...power?" Barnes looked up curiously at the building, searching for any sign that someone had touched something. When he saw nothing, he shrugged. "I guess it's our lucky day?" Dodgson shrugged, and swiped his card again. This time, the device chirped, the light flashed, and there was a sudden grinding of metal on metal as the garage door began to slowly, and noisily, slide upward, exposing the inside of the garage, lights in the ceiling flicking on one by one as if by themselves, exposing the inside. Barnes blinked a couple times as the light flashed in his eyes, but when his vision cleared, he quickly turned off the flashlight. They wouldn't need it here. There was a pair of gas-powered Jeeps parked in the middle of the garage, along with another of the cargo carts that the tram had, sitting by itself in the corner. Shelves lined the walls, filled with all manner of equipment, from toolboxes to larger devices that looked like cattle prods. "Riley, Max, in you go," Barnes whispered. "Check your corners. Make sure it's safe to go in. There could be anything hiding in the shadows..."

Unbeknownst to the group below, there was another sign of power: the top of the wall had a single security camera hidden in a dark, hemispherical casing, blending in perfectly with the darkness. The camera turned and watched the group below silently...

Riley nods and switches off his flashlight, putting it up a second later and moving in, gun at the ready. He looked around carefully, taking the left of the garage they were going inside of...

Jacob walked amidst the abandoned and neglected offices inside the building, running glances over papers on the desks, files of various species present on the island and the analysis of them, taking the papers with him for later. once he was done, he left the offices and made his way towards another section of the building, in search for communication systems. the trek had been long, but the fact there was only two of them meant they moved at a faster pace than their "colleagues". the man moved through the building, weapon at the ready...

David was already inside the facillity, investigating the building as best as he could in the dark. From what he got from the exterior, months of abandonment did not treat the building well. Compounding that was the damage to the structure, scorch marks were plenty and bullets pocked the metal covering. Infact, his entrance to the place was a hole blown into the structure, obviously from an armed assault. Part of his mission had been completed. He found it funny how a whole squad of mercenaries were deployed on the island, when two well trained units were more than enough. Never before had he actually been held back by his team mates! He couldnt wait to get done with this buisness.

Maxwell clicks off his flashlight and holsters his sidearm, before getting his shotgun ready. He followed in after Riley, taking the right side of the garage. He wasn't going to let anyone else get killed... even if he had to die to make that so.

Riley slowly progresses on, scanning over, under and in between objects that became obstacles for the merc as he moved along...

Rick blinked a few times when the lights came on, suprise evident in his expression for a few seconds. He though:"Finally, our luck seems to be taking a better turn. I just hope that if there are any dinosaurs inside here, that they're small ones who will turn tail and run upon seeing us in a group."

OOC: The lights are only on in the garage, CS. The rest of the base is still dark.

The garage was abandoned, with the exception of the various items strewn about the cabinets. Despite the lighting, the lamps still caused harsh shadows to be thrown across the walls and floors, making it difficult to see in the darker corners of the giant room...

One of the Carnotaurs snuffled and shorted at the edge of the blown-open hole in the wall, much farther away from the garage, deeper in the jungle. He picked up the human stench, and carefully, quietly stalked inside, followed by his mate. Both animals seemed to vanish from plain sight, their scales shifting to match the gray, featureless walls around them...

The base's many rooms were, for the most part, locked electronically, making it difficult to get through their steel doors with anything less than a demolition charge. More mundane doors, locked by key or simply hanging carelessly open, led into personal quarters and offices. The hallways were, surprisingly, mostly clear. Other than the battle damage to the building, there were no signs of conflict. No bodies, no guns, no dried blood, not even discarded shells. It was like someone had gone through the place and cleaned it up after whatever fight here had ended...

Near Jacob's position, a soft hooting noise, very birdlike, echoed quietly through the corridor, as did the sound of scales scraping against metal as something moved in the darkness, farther down the hall and around a corner...

David turned to face where he had come from, having heard the snorts and sniffing. He also heard footsteps, distinct tapping caused by the tips of claws on the unatrual floor. He smirked. "******** think you can sneak up on me Your kind must not be very bright." He though. David peered into the darkness, able to make out just about everything near him. He saw nothing remotely saurian, but heard the footsteps. At that, he swung his tavor around, activating the laser sight on the rifle and then panned it across the room. The red beam suddenly contoured, as if it had hit an object where unobstructed wall was. "Spotted, ******" He muttered. "I thought we left your chameleon *** in the jungle"

Suddenly, the light went back to normal, and the sound of footsteps receded a short distance around the corner, disappearing down the hall and abruptly stopping, like the animal had stopped midstep, and was waiting for the human to come to it...

The Carnotaurus had quickly drawn back its head when the laser sight panned across the wall, pausing momentarily on its stubby snout. The dinosaur had backed up, around the corner, and tensed, ready to attack if necessary...

David raised an eyebrow as he took a small step backwards. Apparently this thing knew that lasers meant trouble for them. Perhaps it had been on the buisness end of sighted rifles before. If so, it were lucky to still be alive. That luck would soon run out. Obviously he was being hunted, no predator would simply follow an animal for a day just for the hell of it. Maybe it was waiting for him and Jacob to split up and was finally seizing the opportunity. David panned his rifle again, the sight running across the carnotaur again... then something else. For a split second the red point landed on another figure which seemed to disappear. "You brought a dinner guest along?" David muttered, smirking. "Im sure they will be pleasantly surprised with whats on the menu"

Maxwell looks about, his shotgun readied. Maxwell noticed how empty the hallways were. "Yo, riley- you see anything on your side? There isn't even any blood stains.... whatever came in here was rather efficient at keeping the mess low...."

Hiero walked alongside the other mercs and looked around the area noticing that even bullet holes had the shells pulled out. "Whoever did this, were very very professional, I think I even smell bleach to dilude blood so if we tried to use a DNA regestery on a scant sample we wouldn't find any trace," he said, speaking with experience.

The second Carnotaurus was also in hiding nearby, though with its camouflage, exactly where it was was nearly impossible to say. The two carnivores had vanished around the corner, back towards the hole in the wall...

Barnes couldn't help but be nervous. Despite the new lighting, there was still a dark forest just behind them. Deciding that, considering nothing was attacking them, the garage was empty, he whispered, "Everyone inside. Dodgson, close the door behind us."

David listened intently to the tapping the carnotaurs made when they walked, their claw tips betraying their pressence even when they seemed to be retreating. He used the sound to roughly pinpoint their location, sweeping the laser sight over the area, back and forth to get visual confirmation of the departing creatures, the range of the sweep broad to ensure that they didnt slip away to get into ambush positions.

The hallway around the corner, where the Carnotaurs had retreated, extended further into the facility, with the gaping hole in the right wall, and a pair of plain wooden double doors hanging lazily open on the left wall, leading into an office of some kind. The footsteps had stopped, the only noise being the creaking of the open doors as a light breeze moved them, blowing through the moonlit hole in the opposite wall...
