Kala crashed into the wrecked, scorched hulk of the Pinger's disembodied head, before standing up and shaking himself dry. "Oh, so the fishhead has a sense of humor now, I see..." Kala said with his own chuckle...

"Feh-sh?" Galaak asked, saying the word awkwardly. Due to the circumstances, he hadn't reviewed the information that E-doch gathered over the hours. The term "fish" was absent in the Ascatian tongue and languages along with most kinds of life present in the area were unknown to him. It was a stark reminder that he had to get back to his duty as an explorer and scientist as soon as possible.

Kala sighed. "Ah, never mind." He paused, glancing over at the Pinger head. "Wait there for a second." He reached for the hatch in the top of the wrecked walker's head, then forcibly yanked it open, using his suit-enhanced strength to pry the metal plate off, exposing the dark cockpit inside. After a short moment of looking inside, Kala reached in and grabbed ahold of something.

With a forced pull, Kala dragged Zakai into the light, virtually helpless without his suit. The red-skinned, squid-like creature struggled vainly, its short arms scrabbling weakly at the suited claw that held it by the "neck." "Not so tough without your hardware, are you Zakai?" The Cephian gurgled back, "You... won't kill me... like this... You're too... soft..." "You're probably right, I AM soft. As much as I would like you cut you to ribbons, I would never bring myself to kill a defenseless creature, no matter how vile." He looked up at Galaak. "I doubt Galaak shares the same sympathy, however." He released his grip on Zakai, who plopped to the floor with a wet smack, trying to levitate himself off the bottom of the hangar bay. Kala turned away and looked out over the wetlands outside, ignoring the struggling, growling Cephian...

Galaak picked up Zakai, knowing he was too weak to put up resistance. "You have already condemned him, Kala. The microorganisms that call this water...this air... home...they will assault him. His body will be no match for the alien threat, and he will die a long, agonizing death. It is quite poetic, isn't it Zakai? That you, so content with unleashing weapons far more advanced than the natives', will perish due to miniscule life forms less advanced than any of them. I could leave you here to die, Zakai. But I won't. I will not have your disgusting blood on my hands. I will give my best efforts to keep you alive, to save you, but if you die regardless then what has passed is what has passed"...

"Let me take him." The voice of Bate entered the hangar, closely followed the Cephian himself, limping slightly thanks to his damaged suit. "I'll have him contained and sent back to the Primacy. He'll most certainly be imprisoned for this." Kala turned on Bate furiously, unsheathing his arm blades. "You're going to let the PRIMACY decide his fate?! They will let him go, guaranteed!" "And what would you have me do then, Kala?" Bate asked, crossing his arms. "If he dies, the Primacy will find out one way or another, and they will suspect you to be the culprit, track you down, and then what? This planet will be doomed. They would rather burn an entire primitive civilization than let a criminal with your record live. Or, at least, what they claim is your criminal record. Either way, it is safer to let him live. My story, as a loyal soldier of the Cephian Army, will be enough to convince them. I will claim that the battle that caused your 'convenient' death injured Zakai and brought about amnesia. He cannot prove otherwise. Let us leave, and chances are good that you will never hear from the Primacy again. Unless, of course, you go looking for them..."

While Galaak would have not trusted Bate under his first impressions of the soldier, he was convinced by now that the Cephian was clearly the most trust worthy and reasonable of the three mercenaries. "He's dying by the second" Galaak said as he walked over to Bate, handing him his comrade.

"Just a charade," Bate growled, grabbing the helpless Zakai unceremoniously by his back tentacles. "We're tougher than you give us credit for, Ascatian. It'll take more than a temperate climate to kill us outside of our suits. Kala, will you join us? I suspect you want a lift off this planet." Kala, who had calmed down and sheathed his blades, shook his head. "I think I can wait a little longer. Besides, I have the explorer here." He nudged Galaak in the side with his elbow. "I can get a ride from him." Bate nodded. "Very well then. Best of luck to you. I will keep the Primacy off your tail as long as I can."

"It is not the climate" Galaak replied. Readouts from his now operational suit gave him a readout of chemicals in the atmosphere. Some were quite harmful and possibly toxic, possibly created by the metropolis not too far away. There were unidentified life forms in the water that he stood in at present. Whether or not they could pose harm would be seen once he examined E-doch's findings. "Go, now. The more time we spend talking the less his chances of surviving are"

The other officers helped, managing to clear enough of the debris to haul the victim out. As they tried basic resuscitation measures to help, multiple ambulance sirens reached their ears, and within moments, multiple EMTs were closing in.

Meanwhile, the officers escorted Mortum into the police station and placed him in a standard holding cell: A small 8 by 5 room with no windows, a small bunk for sitting, and a heavy metal door that could be locked in multiple ways from the outside. The only way to look in was a small slot on the door, at eye level of an average person.

Bate nodded at the two and walked off, towards the cockpit, not particularly concerned about Zakai. Kala laughed. "Well, I suppose that's the end of that." He hopped out of the hangar bay door and into the water with a loud splash. "Still stuck on this mudball, though..."

"The cost of the greater good is a staggering one. We both have learned that over the course of this world's day." Galaak replied solemnly, glancing around the wrecked hanger bay. He tapped in a command on the wrist device, glad that the peril was finally over. The droid appeared from where Bate first entered, rolling across the wet floor and coming to a stop at its creator's feet. Galaak let out a thoughtful hum. "And to think I built it so that it can destroy itself for our means..." he mused, trailing off as he pondered the notion. The water outside began to ripple as E-doch brought itself down, its crescent wing within stepping distance from the hanger platform. The craft became visible with a distortion of light.

Kala looked up at where Galaak stood, shouting, "You might want to get down from there before Bate closes the hangar and traps you by accident!" Already, the ship was starting to hum to life, Bat having already stowed Zakai in a stasis tank and preparing to lift off...

Galaak looked up from the droid, feeling the faint quake of the warship's reserve engines running through the craft. He turned around and stepped onto E-doch's wing, the droid rolling beside him. With his feet fastened to the cruiser's hull, Galaak gave it the order to pull away from the departing vessel while lowering further into the water, now at a level where Kala could climb onto as well.

Kala effortlessly hopped into the air to land on E-doch's wing, watching the Cephian ship. Small puffs of energy illuminated the ship's underside as the auxiliary thrusters (small engine nacelles that lined the ship's ventral structure and were capable of rotating 180 degrees) activated, sluggishly pushing the damaged warship into the air...

"They have a long journey ahead of them. May fortune take kindly to them, even if one is as distasteful as Zakai" the explorer remarked, looking at the ascending ship for a few moments before walking down the rest of the way to his own. The side entrance split open and he stepped into the chamber beyond, the robot following in his footsteps

Kala turned and followed Galaak after a moment, adding, "Oh yes, I'm sure fortune will take kindly to Zakai in prison..." The Cephian warship's engines swiveled, pushing the ship up and forward at the same time, clearing the marsh's treeline and rocketing off into the sky...

"At least he will still be alive." Galaak replied once Kala was inside the chamber, the hull uniting again seamlessly. The now familiar hiss of hot water and other cleansing chemicals filled the room, completely sterilizing the three. They were dried off seconds later, the hiss replaced with a low hum before the next entrance appeared, leading into the cruiser. "I suppose that, until your ship is repaired, E-doch can be your place to stay during your time on this planet" he said as he started walking out of the airlock

"I suppose so," Kala replied. "As much as I hate to admit it, I can't help but feel a little responsible for what happened to these humans. They deserve some protection, at the very least. Even IF the Primacy doesn't come looking for me..."

"I can only hope what happened before does not repeat itself through other means" Galaak said, the images of the destruction caused in the short skirmish flashing before his eyes. Many innocents lost their lives or were seriously injured due to the conflict. He sighed and continued on. "As an explorer, I find myself upon many worlds far away from my own. As a scientist, I find myself having to observe the activity of life without leaving an influence. As much as I would like to do something to assist the natives, doing so would compromise my study even more than it already has been"

"And what if something else comes along that threatens them?" Kala said. "I saw a single human fighting Selk earlier. One, and he was particularly unique. Had some sort of ability to manipulate energy. No other human, at least from what I culled from their databanks can tell me, have that kind of power. And he barely hurt that Devastator Suit. And what if that human isn't around for the next attack from... whatever it is that shows up? What if we're the only two who can do something?"
