"I see it happen all the time. If you really want to convince someone, go talk to the walls. You'll have better luck with them" hissed Ripper simply...

"What kind of trouble would make you look for even MORE to get away from it?" growled Crusher confusedly...

"Why don't you lighten up, a**hole?" Stoneclaw snarled, flexing his claws. "Just who the hell do you think you are, anyway?" "Uh, Stoneclaw, maybe we shouldn't--" "Shut it, Howler. I'm not going to let some nobody raptor backtalk me just because he doesn't like hearing negative feedback!"

"When you face death on a daily basis, sometimes many times in one day, the best thing to do is forget about the last time you could've met your end. In my case the only way to forget is to do something else that could get me killed. Its like a cycle, you see..." Aircrest growled half jokingly. From morning to dusk, it seemed as if he had been running for dear life. When he looked back on his previous years, that was exactly what he had been doing since he emerged from the egg. It was at that moment that what the elderly raptor had said made sense, and with the understanding came the sullen realization that three years of his life were spent simply evading death not because of the harsh odds that came with survival, but because of his own foolishness. "...Crap" he muttered, his face devoid of emotion.

"Hold your tongue, hatchling, lest you give me reason to remove it. You're in the presence of a Raptor that your own PARENTS are too young to remember" hissed Ripper as he eyed the Raptor, the quills on his head rising like blue and black needles...

"....I see" growled Crusher, still somewhat confused, but deciding to leave it at that. hearing the last bit, he cocked his head. "crap?" he hissed, now thoroughly lost...

"How do you react when you realize someone you don't even know was right about how you live your life?" Aircrest asked the Tyrannosaur, his original plans to find a place to spend the night all but forgotten by now.

"...crap" growled Crusher, understanding. "Who was it?" he added after a brief moment of silence, now curious...

"Some old raptor I met while snooping around one of those...cave things that are scattered around the island," Aircrest growled in reply. "Ran into him a few times since. Promptly ran away afterwards, but that only makes things worse, doesn't it?"

Stoneclaw snorted, and was about to give a proper retort, when Howler cut in. "Come on, I don't think you two need to try and kill each other. Aren't you trying to save that raptor's life?"

"Probably. Funny though. I ran into an old Raptor yesterday. Was...Dark brown-red...had quills on his head. His name's Ripper. Apparently he's known me since I was a hatchling" growled Crusher thoughtfully...

Ripper rose to his feet as he turned to face the two Raptors. "I've already finished" growled Ripper, his amber gaze locked on Stoneclaw, staring the Raptor right in the eyes...

"Oh... good..." Howler mumbled. Stoneclaw said nothing, simply glaring back at Ripper, gaze unwavering...

"Well isn't that something. I'll be sure to mention you next time he turns up. Whenever that is" Aircrest replied. "At least you know now you aren't truly alone on this island. Ripper might as well be the last of your family...how ever the hell that works" the green raptor added, looking thoughtful as he tried to comprehend two different species of dinosaur having a relationship beyond predator, prey and tolerance...

"Unfounded claims and hidden threats will do little for him, or you. So do him a favour and save yourselves the pain. Give him the peace he needs" growled Ripper calmly. "If you're so eager to paint your hide with your own blood, red one, say so and I will grant it. If not, you'd best do something about your attitude, because at the rate you're going, it won't be long before you're given a second hole to breathe through" he warned as he maintained his gaze on Stoneclaw, his stare somewhere between irritation and disgust...

"Who knows...he could be more. If his words are to be believed, some of my family survive....but want to wait till I'm strong enough to defend myself from a superpredator....just in case" grunted Crusher...

Aircrest laid down at the river bank, settling onto his side and staring out over the running water, watching as leaves and small branches flowed along the current. "I might be asking about something too personal with my next question, I tend to do that from time to time; but just why did Spinosaurs decide to...y'know, attack your family in the first place?" he growled.

"You're one to talk," Stoneclaw hissed flatly. "Or do you greet everyone you meet with hostility, old one? Surprised you haven't been killed by a short-tempered Dilophosaurus yet." The raptor shrugged. "But, okay, whatever you say. Have to listen to my elders, right? I'm pretty sure that's what my parents would have taught me, anyway. Let me just get out of your way..." Stoneclaw stepped to the side with fake politeness, a move which the more frightened Howler followed...

"My father.....was the most dominant predator on the island. The most successful, basically. The most powerful in a fight, and had one of the best bits of territory. The Spinosaurs hate Rexes in general, and usually they feared my father. But it seemed a group of them banded together. a pack, to...take him down and try and slaughter his family as well. The only survivors I know of are my mother, one of my siblings, and myself. Out of a pack of 8 Tyrannosaurs. And they've been picking us off one at a time ever since" growled Crusher, having a bit of difficulty talking about it, having always simply avoided the subject in the past...

"I greet those who continue to try and destroy a family's HOPE without reason, with hostility" hissed Ripper. "And were a short tempered Dilophosaurus to try, it would swiftly find it's innards in a pile at it's feet" he added, unmoving. "You need'n't get out of my way. You need simply to get out" snarled the Elder coldly...

Stoneclaw shrugged nonchalantly. "The faster these little guys learn that hope is dead on this island, the better, I think. Come on, Howler. Let's wait outside." He strode past Howler, who hesitated for a moment, before glancing at Ripper. "If you don't mind me asking, why are you helping them, really?" he said, uncharacteristically serious. "Are they family?"

"Hope is dead for those too blind to see it. Clearly you are among them" hissed Ripper after the red Raptor, before shifting his gaze to Howler. "I did it out of courtesy" he answered, his tone calm, almost friendly, in spite of the fact he held no more trust for this Raptor than he did for the other. "I am the first Raptor. The eldest of our kind, and the first to set foot on this island freely. All Raptors are my family. My blood, or that of my relatives, runs through the veins of every Raptor on this island. Though that does not qualify everyone for my aid" he added...

Stoneclaw merely ignored him as he walked out of the cave, though Howler was suddenly very curious about the older raptor. "The... first? That..." He scratched his head, trying to figure out what to say. "Well, to be honest, it sounds lonely. Uh, no offense..."

"Being born into greatness hasn't exactly worked out for you then..." Aircrest barked, compelled to offer something deeper than just an off hand comment but unable to articulate a proper sentence. Aside from Ripper linking the two creatures together, they were complete strangers. Was he even in a position to speak about an issue of great magnitude such as death? He sighed, finding himself fumbling once again when it came to interacting with another.

The juveniles had been listening apprehensively to the increasingly hostile argument, Rhojis crouching down by his sister as the two attempted to edge out of the way, closer to their father. As the arguing rose to a point where the youngsters half expected the older raptor to leap at Stoneclaw and cleave him to pieces, Beryl slowly slid a clawed hand out toward the frightened juveniles, Sylicora reaching out a gentle hand of her own to touch it. It was a small gesture, but it seemed to reassure the family that Stoneclaw's pessimistic opinion wasn't the only option...
