Steeltalon murmured agreement, pausing in her feeding to lick her fangs clean and take another cautious look around. She growled, "Sure beats living off of compies for months," meaning for the comment to come out in a joking tone; somehow there was just a touch of wistfulness there too, though, as she felt the all-too familiar chest-crushing sensation of grief for what had been taken from her much too soon.

"I have lived alone for most of the 35 years I have walked this island...it is of little consequence" hissed Ripper calmly. Only the keenest of his few friends could detect that beneath that thick layer of indifference, he longed to see his mate...his family. To everyone else, he was a creature with a heart of stone...

"That'd be a bit of an understatement, but yeah. Greatness isn't all that great when you think of the price that comes with it" growled Crusher calmly. Many days he caught himself thinking back to his life as a hatchling, wondering why his father had to be the best. the greatest. the most powerful. the most feared. the most respected. Perhaps, had he not strived for such greatness, Crusher would have a family instead of a handful of memories...

"Who knows. Maybe you'll be nibbling on a Compy and saying 'sure beats living off of Gallis for months' at some point" hissed Fatalis with a chuckle...

"You... don't miss your family?" Howler asked tentatively. "I know I do..."

"Sometimes having the loudest roar on the island isn't a good thing then" Aircrest continued with a bark. "Then I'm perfectly fine with running from everything. Er...I was. Not much to life if all you can remember is a blur, literally"

"So I take it your comrade isn't that much of a brother?" growled Ripper calmly...

"You don't end up asking yourself what the point of a life like that is?" growled Crusher, cocking his head...

"I didn't until recently. I thought I was doing something right, keeping myself alive. It's not like I had anyone to take care of me so, yeah..." the raptor explained as the shroud of twilight secured its hold on Isla Sorna...

"maybe so," Steeltalon replied with a faint smile, pulling at a bit of meat caught under the curved tip of one claw with her front teeth. "Living off of them for long stretches of time does something to your taste buds though," she added with an amused glint in her scarlet eyes. "You start to forget what real food tastes like." she nodded to the galli carcass.

"Eventually survival becomes routine. You get so used to it you go through it without needing to think. Then you start wondering what else there is to keep your mind occupied. That's kinda what happened to me. Hence the whole sit-in-the-bushes-and-watch-the-Raptor-get-chased-off-by-angry-herbivores thing" growled Crusher as he eyed the Raptor with a light smirk...

"He'd best be careful then. I'm a patient creature compared to most. Many would've jumped at him and torn his throat out by now. I'd suggest keeping him under a bit more control" warned Ripper calmly as he shifted his gaze briefly to Beryl and the twins...

Fatalis chuckled at the comment, nodding. "True. Still, keeps you alive. When you're on your own that comes before comfort" he growled, his own life summing that notion up fairly well...

"In my case, the danger is what gives my life meaning. If there wasn't...an angry Allosaur or...a herd of Stegosauruses or...a bull Tyrannosaur to put my life at risk, then I would just be...living. Alone, wandering the island day by day...just existing" Aircrest explained, once again deep in thought. "But being in danger all the time isn't any better. There is no...happiness in that, you know?" he growled, thinking back to his whole exchange with the Rugops. He was starting to regret the things he said just before he left it...

The twins stayed by their father's side, one of the older raptor's clouded eyes blinking up at them and their surroundings. His breathing was beginning to even out, though he dared not move more than the one hand that was touching Sylicora's, since the pain of his injuries was much more tolerable while he kept still. The juveniles having calmed a bit, Rhojis briefly turned away from Beryl to give Howler a questioning glance, hissing tentatively, "So... You've lost family members too? Are there any others besides Stoneclaw? ...If I'm not being too nosy," he added, quickly glancing back down at Beryl...

Howler gave a weak smile. "It's fine. I don't really remember my parents. They died... well, I don't really remember how. Stoneclaw said they died of exposure or something, but I don't know..." He scratched the back of his head. "Other than that, I don't have any family except Stoneclaw..."

"True," Steeltalon growled, inclining her head towards the male. He had a fair point, one she understood well.

"You'd think you'd have enough encounters with things trying to kill you here that lack of activity isn't a problem" growled Crusher as he considered what the Raptor said. with the sun nearly hidden by the horizon, the young Rex's energy was similarly waning, his head no longer being held off the ground, the Rex curled himself slightly more tightly as he closed his eyes, resting, though not letting himself sleep just yet...

Fatalis looked up at the sky as he yawned, the heavy meal admittedly tiring him somewhat, though he avoided letting sleep claim him. his lifestyle made it risky. especially in a place like this. he'd need to find somewhere safe to rest for the night...

Ripper meanwhile, remained silent, considering the Raptor's words carefully, trying to put together the pieces of information the dromaeosaur provided. exposure....the natural assumption would be exposure to the elements, which would make sense somewhere like Death Valley. Then again, it could be the toxic lakes beside the labs like the one he had made his home. that stuff would addict any who drank from it, forcing them to consume more and more of it until eventually they ingested a fatal amount...

"Danger only finds me when I'm on the ground..." Aircrest replied. The juvenile's position reminded Aircrest of his own lack of energy. It was about that time where he headed up into the canopy and stayed there until the morning's light

For several moments, the gray juvenile stared solemnly down at his injured father, though his attention wasn't fully on his one remaining parent. Sylicora remained still and silent as different thoughts filtered into her mind... Memories of the beech caves she started life in, and saw the life of another end in... Rhojis' voice brought her back to the present just as she was stung by a sense of loss and longing, which she attempted to hide, briefly closing her eyes and letting out a slow, silent breath... "And now... do you live on your own? Or did you find a pack?" he inquired...

Howler shook his head. "We've been meaning to find more raptors, but we haven't been too successful. Stoneclaw isn't very... diplomatic..."

"With his attitude I'm surprised you two haven't been killed by Raptors and other things he's annoyed" hissed Ripper with a grunt...

"You have to get out of the trees some time" grunted Crusher as he rested...

Howler stared at the cave floor. "He's usually not THIS bad, actually. I think Daycrawlers just annoy him a lot, or maybe he's just having a bad day..."
