"We turn the Rift against itself. We use the tether itself," Kane said, looking back at Jacob with a wry smirk. "lets see if we can make it jump loops with the Relativity Coil..."

"Then this might be handy" said Jacob as he held up the pen-like device, which split down the middle to reveal a digital clipboard, a small antenna popping out of one side. "Atlas was kind enough to provide us with some extra information on Relativity Coil technology and its applications. Stuff I'm fairly sure they were keeping from you" he explained as he handed the clipboard to the man...

Kane took the clip board and flicked his index finger down its length, his eyes speeding across the display as he read, taking in the information and double checking it with what he already knew. It was less than a minute before his wry smile broadened and his eyes lit up. It was just a little longer before he looked back at Jacob. His expression held a joy that came with one of the most timeless discovering one can make in their life.

The discovery of untapped potential.

"I think I'm going to enjoy working for Mr. Atlas if he lets me try my hand at things like this" Kane said, chuckling a tad bit deviously afterwards...

"Just you wait. This is only the beginning" said Jacob with a chuckle as he sat back in one of the chairs in the cockpit, crossing his legs and leaning back as he eyed the scientist before him, interested to see how the discoveries would translate into results...

"I agree. This is just the beginning of a very long road of...progress" Kane said, looking over the digital file once more not to see if he could glean any new insight from it, but in a subdued admiration of what the file entailed. A respect and anticipation for what the new finding meant.

"It was never meant to be used in such a way, you know. Nothing OWL designed was meant to be used like this...but I can change that..." he said, retracting the file into its projector, the antenna and ends capping off. He looked up at the monument and said "Do you mind if I kept this? I find it quite...useful"

There was a spark of determination in his eye, a zest that came with the young man's ambition.

A look shared by his father on more than one occasion.

Damian suddenly entered the stasis chamber, using the panel next to Rebin's pod to override the sleep cycle and forcing the pod to open.

"Wake up!" Damian shouted to Rebin. "Yukari's went to investigate the structure on her own!"

Rebin coughed into his elbow as he woke up. "What do you mean Yukari-" And he stopped himself. His eyes drifted over to Yukari's stasis tank... and it was empty. " This isn't good. This is not good." He said, realizing the situation as he got out of the stasis tank. "Of course she'd go off on her own without bothering to ask us for support. She always rushed into situations like a maniac in college, and she's doing it now."

Back in the factory, Yukari looked back at the slime on the door. Did that thing... just hiss at her? ... Maybe it was a good idea she didn't pick it up. Moving beyond the corner, she noticed the inceasing gory blood trail. This was... definitely unsettling, but perhaps if she went in a little deeper...

"Follow me," Damian said, his weapons strapped across his back. "There's so new eqipment for you, too!"

Damian quickly headed towards the storage room, expecting Rebin to follow. They didn't have time to play games... Yukari could be in serious trouble and need help....

The blood trail slid along the corridor, one of the more grievous trails entering a doorway into a room on the right side of the passageway. another trail continued onwards through the facility, the damage along the walls only worsening the deeper into the facility she went...

Jacob chuckled as he saw Kane's expression. "Just like David. Sure, you can keep it. Though you could just upload the data onto the Felicity's own databanks, if I'm not mistaken" he said. He got the feeling he'd enjoy working with this kid. It'd give him a chance to see how much of his old man rubbed off on him, if nothing else...

As Jacob was speaking, Kane was already at work jacking into the portable projector, its data contents streaming out onto the ship's display, notes and theoretical equations galore that had become the norm of the Relativity Coil Initiative.

"Its just something to hold onto...until what's in my head becomes a reality. Something tangible when dealing with the very basis of the intangible" Kane replied somewhat cryptically.

"I'm going to set the Felicity down for a bit to work on this little science project. I think it'd be a good chance for you to stretch your legs and explore the area. The more data we collect the better"

Rebin wasn't wasting any time. He hurried out of the stasis tank and over to the supply room. When he saw the tech and suit that was left, he whistled. "Damn. That's some nice stuff they left for us." He commented as he hurried to change into the suit. It was better to go in prepared and safe than to blindly rush in. Who knew what lurked within...

Yukari was now beginning to feel rather uneasy with the increasing blood trail. Well, it seemed to split off, so instead of following the main trail, she went toward the door that had one of the side-trails leading to it, and carefully opened it up...

"Indeed it is," Damian commented as Rebin quickly suited up. "But let's not think too deeply about it. We have a fool to rescue."

"Right. Will also give me some target practice, if our luck stays on its current track" said the Mercenary as he turned towards the airlock to the side of the ship...

Within the room lay the mangled, mutilated corpse of a soldier, clad in futuristic armour that looked even beyond the technology the group had at their disposal. jagged claw marks scored the armour's surface, and more of the blackish sludge oozed over the body, having eaten away patches of the armour, the skin around the sludge greyish black, as if both bruised and decayed, black veins visible beneath the surface of the slimy looking skin. the face wasn't visible at this angle, and the lighting seemed to flicker a sconce on the wall dangling off its fixture, knocked loose by whatever had mangled the man. On the table was a digital journal which, surprisingly, was written in English. It seemed to suggest one of two things; either English had not failed to dominate the world stage in their home dimension, or they had adapted after their absorption into the rift to the local language of choice. They seemed the most likely and least far-fetched theories, though others no doubt existed...

Rebin, finished with donning on his suit, grabbed the weapons that were labeled for him and made for the door to the facility. "I swear, I turn my back on her, and she's off chasing down some lead despite the dangers, like that one time she flew off to England on her own to investigate a haunted house despite recent murdering going on there." He grumbled as he furrowed his brow...

After her experience with the slime earlier, Yukari wisely decided to keep away from the dead soldier. Instead, she went over to the digital journal and began to read it after checking behind herself, just in case something had tried to sneak up on her. Whatever had happened to this place, mos tlikely the events were on here...

"some people lack the sense to realize when it is good to avoid an area..." Damian said as he got his grenade launcher ready. Damian soon flipepd open the door of the APC, and stepped off, heading towards the bases' wide open entrance way. He expected Rebin to close the door as soon as they left...

The journal was open on the latest entry, which seemed to have been made shortly before or during the attack.

"-Day 82 - Time: 23:30

Today we spotted a second human settlement on the border of our perimeter. They seem, by their appearance, to be from late 20th century America, as their dialect seems similar. But then, with this strange world, who can really tell?

One of our outposts has also gone offline. We have sent men to investigate, but we lost contact with them shortly after they passed the halfway point. Obergruppenfuhrer Dasler is concerned. I share his feelings. Just before going offline, the outpost had stated they had been seeing strange, corpse-like creatures walking back and forth at a nearby abandoned village. Descriptions had shown them to be badly decayed and seemingly covered in a strange black tar-like substance. While I doubt that that itself is the cause of the blackout, as our esteemed superiors in the Reich had equipped us with arms and armaments meant to withstand any threat, I cannot help but wonder if there is a relation.

I will have to stop here, as the alarm has just been raised. Something just shook the base. I shall update this journal once we have the situation under control. God save the Fuhrer, and Long live the Holy German Empire
"

Another entry could be seen at the bottom, dated the same day, at one minute to midnight, though it seemed, by the spelling mistakes and lack of the effects decorating the previous entry, to be rushed. Opening it revealed only two words.

"THEY'RE HERE"

Closing the door to the APC behind him, Rebin followed Damian into the building. Hopefully, they would find Yukari well and alive...

As for the sceintist herself, she was scanning over the entry of the journal. No doubt the "they" that was referred to was what had taken down this base... But then she relooked at the description of the things put up earlier. It sounded as if they had been attacked by zombies... and an unusual variant at that. Normally, she'd be surprised, but from what she had already come acrossthe other day, she wasn't.

Felicity skimmed across the grassy terrain moist with a dawn dew, glistening in the binary sunrise. The shadows of spires cut across the ship as it went. The hydraulic hum of the outermost hull hatch sounded off as the entrance opened.

Jacob was no stranger to mobile deployment, though one from a craft like Felicity was no doubt new.

Damian soon activated the flash light on his shoulder, scanning the area for signs of lfie. Instead, what he found was somethnig straight out of a horror movie.

"My god..." Damian said, keeping his grenade launcher ready. "What the hell happened here?"

As the hatch opened in the side of the ship, Jacob walked to the edge, turning back towards the interior as he dropped backwards off the ship, flipping in the air as he plummeted, a thrust of his jets slowing him as he neared the ground, the man landing with an audible thud in the grass, landing in a kneel, his limbs embedding deeply enough into the soft soil that he didn't tumble away from his own momentum. Rising to his feet, he glanced around, surveying the scene. Grassy plains surrounded him, the looming form of the pyramid a fair distance away yet. Getting a grip of his surroundings, he began to explore. His compass's secondary needle, which relied on the magnetic pole rather than relative direction, was going crazy, bouncing back and forth between the various directions aimlessly. "So Rift energy affects magnetic fields. No surprise there" he murmured to himself as he contiued onwards...

The base seemed mangled, burned and blood-smeared, jagged gashes and bulletholes lining the high tech, futuristic metallic walls. cables crackled and monitors flickered, some doorways creaking and jerking as hydraulic arms meant to slide the doors in and out of place malfunctioned, causing them to jerk back and forth along their rails, mangled, sludge-streaked corpses could be seen in some places, though their locations didn't seem to line up with any bloodstains or spills that indicated they had been felled there. It was as if they had not bled when they died, despite many of them having vicious gashes and, in some cases, were missing limbs...

Inside the facility, Yukari was left looking at an otherwise plain looking chamber, typical of a soldier's quarters. A picture of a woman could be seen on a shelf alongside a man in a uniform; likely the room's owner and his wife. A number of certificates could be seen in various places implying various professions. Whoever this man had been, he was a very highly qualified person. Nothing else aside from the bed could be seen in the room though. Aside from those sentimental items, the chamber seemed almost completely plain and lacking decorations...
